I do not feel relaxed during vinyasa yoga... how do you guys feel?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 05:33 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I've been starting to do yoga to give myself time to check in with my mind and body. I like how challenging it is, yet very meditative and calming at times. I have shortness of breath from my anxiety and so whenever I am doing breath to movement yoga, I tend to feel very challenged; not quite overwhelmed but not relaxed. I feel like I'm really exercising.

I was just curious if feeling the opposite of relaxed during vinyasa yoga was normal. I feel like when people describe it at times, it's very calming and you feel a weight lifted off you as you breathe. I know everyone is different I was just wondering how you guys felt during your sessions. Thank you!!!!

My YTT has added modules on Anti-Racism

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 12:24 PM PDT

    The 3 modules are:

    1. Yoga for Everyone - The Path to Anti-Racism and Equity

    2. Introduction to Critical Race Theory

    3. Dismantling Racism and White Fragility

I am very aware of the cultural appropriation that happens in western yoga. We don't often teach yogic philosophy or history. We just monetize "cool symbols" and asana practices.

But is yoga racist? Flooded with white moms, for sure. But im curious if anyone has experiences you're willing to share about racism in yoga. These are the 3 longest individual lectures of the entire YTT program and im just wondering why.

Plz excuse me if my privilege is showing.

    Thank you 💕

Dynamic Spinal Circles - Practice it during a quick break from sitting for long hours, to release back tension or to prepare yourself before practicing intermediate postures. It is a great way to warm up the muscles and joints before exercising. It’s perfect for beginning your day or exercise

I'd never considered calling oneself a "yoga teacher" as appropriation until Arundhati Baitmangalkar posted about it. Thoughts?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 05:30 PM PDT

So, as the title says (and I do agree with it in many mainstream western yoga studios), Arundhati Baitmangalkar argues that calling yourself a "Yoga Teacher" is appropriation because many yoga teachers really only focus on the asana aspect. She doesn't have an issue with that teaching style necessarily, but views that as glossing over all the aspects of a yoga lifestyle, education, and how many don't teach all aspects of yoga.

    Here's the post if you're curious: https://www.instagram.com/p/CRCeZ42jaUC/

Personally, I think that she's right. Yoga is so much more than the asana but many teachers only focus on that aspect. What are your thoughts?

TLDR: As Arundhati Baitmangalkar says, "Stop calling yourself a yoga teacher. Because the truth is most of us teach one or a couple of aspects of yoga at best. There's nothing wrong in highlighting which aspect of yoga you are skillful at."

    What are the best bolsters?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 01:46 PM PDT

I do a lot of floor sitting with my low floor desk and I sleep on a shikibuton (japanese floor bed). I need a great bolster or floor seat for extended hours which will help keep my back straight and keep me from slouching or getting discomfort and numbness on my legs.

When I sleep on the floor, I sleep in every position but depending on my day, I may only sleep in one or two positions. I have tried many kinds of pillows since my bolster of 2 years got too fluffy and I keep waking up with neck pain. I am thinking of getting the enlight by manduka I also flip my pillows/bolsters when they get hot at my head so I can have the cold side again, even in the winter. I am hoping this one won't get too hot or too cold and will stay firm for at least 2 years.

I would like the best bolsters while spending the least money possible. Also I would like 2 different bolsters. I dont like putting my head on something I will be sitting on.

    Exercises for posture in dancing

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:31 AM PDT

I have the ambition to become a better dancer over the next coming years and I really want to work on my posture and flexibility in general.

Posture could be described as ears over shoulders over ribs over hips (all aligned in a straight line) as well as a wider back and narrower front. Since I work at a desk 8 hours a day this is really hard for me.

What exercises would you suggest to me so I can start working on that and build up a flow/workout routine? Flexibility in general is highly appreciate as well :)
