Meditation: For The Ones Who Don't Understand Consciousness

Meditation: For The Ones Who Don't Understand Consciousness

For The Ones Who Don't Understand Consciousness

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 05:47 PM PDT

I see a lot of folks who want to detach from Ego, and detach from Fear, and detach from Feelings, and all this.

The state of reality for us is, Ego, Fear, Thoughts, Feelings, Smells, Sight, all senses... That is what Consciousness is.

Consciousness is all of these things we have given words to.

    Consciousness is the whole thing.

Consciousness is the collection of everything it means to exist.

Perhaps Existence itself is also Consciousness - We have no evidence of this, but it is a probability.

Try not to detach from the different aspects of yourself, but to allow yourself to simply be aware of all the different aspects which collect to make you what you are.

    You are not one thing.

You are a collection of conscious experiences.

Don't run from yourself. Seek to understand yourself and why you are the way you are and why the things that have happened to you did happen.

We are all Consciousness with different experiences.

And we get to share our different experiences.

Seek acceptance, don't seek a hiding place from what you are.

Weeklong group meditation starting on Sunday - final signup

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 06:38 PM PDT

Hello! I posted a few weeks ago and we had ~20 sign up with interest, so I'm posting again. Since then, I found a teacher from a local meditation studio leading and we are closing signups for the group tomorrow. I finished my first Vipassana course last year, but haven't been super consistent since, and thought this would be a fun experiment.

It starts on Sunday, and will consist of:

    - Daily 10 minute guided sessions (over video - recorded, not live)

    - Group reflection prompts

    - Video call at end of 7 days led by instructor

Let me know if you have any questions, or fill out this form if you want in!

For those who have been meditating for a while now, how has it changed your everyday life?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:57 PM PDT

    Thanks in advance.

Bonus question: Did you also do any psychological or spiritual practices along with it? Or purely just meditating? If so, what was it?

I wanted to share what I've just experienced and to know if it has a name

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 01:16 PM PDT

I've been practicing meditation for about six weeks. Until now, it was the usual sitting and focusing on my breath, trying to be mindful and aware, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Today, however, it was something else. About twenty minutes in, I felt something I had never experienced before. For the briefest amount of time it was like getting rid of all feelings and sensations. There were no sounds, no touch, no thoughts, complete darkness, nothing to see.

It was certainly the most pure I've felt in my whole life and it lasted less than a finger snap, after which my usual sensations came back in gradually.

I wondered if this is to be expected, if others have felt it too and if it has a name.

You are not seeking nothingness in meditation

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 10:14 PM PDT

Sometimes I hear people say they want to detach themselves from their thoughts and feelings and be in a apathetic state and thats what it means to be in a meditative state. I disagree. Meditation is an exercise where you're trying to become aware of your direct experiences and whatever is happening for you at the very moment. You're not trying to numb your senses. You're trying to sharpen your senses.

    Joy = no-mind, but does no-mind = joy ?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:31 PM PDT

Whenever I am truly enjoying a movie, scenery or game I can look back and see that I had gotten rid of the constant chattering mind for a brief period of that experience. So there is definitely a correlation of joy and no-mind. But is the converse true ? Does achieving no-mind equal joy ? or Is the feeling of joy something different and it just happens to coincide with no-mind ?

My city is in lockdown. How can I see this as a positive time to improve Words of wisdom needed!

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 12:19 AM PDT

My city is in lockdown, but the rest of the country are pretty much back to normal.

I'm overwhelmed with feelings of sadness and frustration.

How can I see this as a positive time to improve my meditation practise? I know the obvious answer is to meditate more.

I guess I'm just after some encouragement or advice about how to deal with times like this, and with the way I'm feeling.

Do you ever experience really pleasant smells while meditating?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 10:32 PM PDT

I did a 2 hour meditation today, and during my meditation while breathing through the nose, I smelt the most beautiful flowers, all my windows were shut and I was in the basement, it has happened to me many times before not just flowers but other smells. It was not from outside

I don't know I just have been having a hard time in life, I don't know if some energies come by to let me know everything is going to be fine, call it spirit or energy but it's something, anyone else have this experience.? When it happens it's really profound.

Does it make a difference whether I meditate with my eyes closed versus open?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 05:29 PM PDT

Found a fun way of meditation.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 08:07 PM PDT

Been meditating for about 8 months now. I just started meditating while listening to music. Before it would have distracted me, but it's nice now actually.

If I focus on my breath I can listen to the music without thinking ahead of the song and anticipating lyrics. So it's kind of a bit like listening in the moment like I haven't heard it before, which feels good. I still slip a bit, but am able to get back on track fast now.

Feel like it's a good way to meditate, at least for me since it grounds me to the present more. It also made me realize that My thoughts racing around in my head are afraid of being forgotten, so I get a sort of mental itch if I try to be totally present, but breathing and music help me enjoy existing.

You can be aware even if you are in an environment of completely unaware people. You do not have to pretend being asleep just because of pressure or anything. You are not bothered by that.

You can be aware even if you are in an environment of completely unaware people. You do not have to pretend being asleep just because of pressure or anything. You are not bothered by that.

. It is more difficult to be a aware and in the present if you are surrounded by other people you care about who have a completely different mentality about this—driven by desire, anxiety, and other very base human drives.

Why is it difficult? It is only difficult because you give the power of belief to your mind. It is not difficult until comes a thought saying "this is difficult" and you just believe in that thought, making it appear as if you are truly experiencing it as difficult. That thought is perceived, it is not you. You are not even seeing the truth at this point, you are already identifying with the mind, being unaware. You must simply be aware and determined to stay aware, and nothing will be difficult. See it as your only job. Perceive that which is perceiving.

I see them as imperfect individuals who are doing their best and love me.

Why see them for something they are not? They might be ego-driven currently but their essence is pure love, pure consciousness, pure joy, pure compassion. The mask that they are putting should not affect how you see them. It makes no sense. You are basically putting on a mask your self and then judging them by their masks, as the ego does to its own projections.

Other days, however, I am more judgmental of them and it comes through in a negative way.

You must be aware that you are not judgmental, and you can never be judgemental. To be judgemental means that you are doing something, means you are doing the judging. That is not true, because the true being does not judge, it only effortlessly and naturally perceives. You are that which is perceiving judging, you can't be the judging itself, nor the thinker of the judging. It is something that the self simply won't do. The only thing that can be judgemental is a thought, once this thought is believed in by what you are (pure awareness) then it appears true. Thoughts which are anxious, judgmental appeared, and you decided to believe these thoughts to be yourself. You are not letting anything else other than these thoughts to flourish. You must discern between your self and the chattering mind within you. The chattering mind is very personal. Everything about it is personal. You must remain as the impersonal self.

Realizing yourself to be that which is perceives perceiving itself, will make life completely effortless. That which tries to do things with "effort" is itself perceived, it is not you. Anything that is anything less than peace, bliss, love, joy, compassion is perceived, when you perceive the perceiver itself, you notice that peace, bliss, love, joy and compassion are all naturally radiating from that perceiver. Stay perceiving of that which is perceiving. It is not hard, it is very natural, it is a joy. You'll notice how you will be literally present 100% of the day, whatever thoughts, emotions or sensations appear, they are perceived also, you'll be a light onto the world, because what you are is truly light. We must simply stay in the place of our true position and seeing, not in the place of identification with thoughts. Even identification with thoughts is perceived. Perceive that which is perceiving, this will help you so so much. Whenever you expect an unconscious situation to appear, be in that place of perceiving the perceiving and do not let go of it.

I am grateful for this opportunity to practice patience and forgiveness with my family but also think I will personally develop and thrive more when I am away from them on an everyday basis, and be able to love them better.

The mind makes you believe life is a practice. You are not here to practice anything, you are here to be purely the life that you are. You must simply exist as you are, and be aware (naturally, effortlessly you are and aware). If you are simply aware, everything will look and behave like heaven, simply because there is no identification with thoughts, emotions, sensations. Life is literally what you are. That divine love IS the life energy that you are. At all times. It can't be anywhere else. It is the being itself, and it is what you are.

The egoic-mind thinks "I will personally develop and thrive more when I am away". That might be true, and it also might be that you won't develop nor thrive. The self-realized does not develop nor thrive for anything. It is simply aware. The ego wants to develop and thrive, to show itself, to prove itself, but all of that is unnecessary suffering in your experiencing. You do not have to follow all of its plans and desires, you can simply stay as you are, at the place of perceiving the perceiver, you don't have to do something and work all the time like everyone and everything wants you to. It is completely ok to just exist, enjoy the beauty and immensity that this vast universe is, just by doing this you are actually an infinite blessing to the world. It is encouraged for you to be the self. Every single thing in life will automatically be blessed by your presence.

Feel like I'm stretching high. Like I'm miles tall.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 09:58 PM PDT

During my second meditation ever I felt like I was miles tall. I felt like my head was SO far away from my hands and even further from my feet. I want to say I even felt a sense of vertigo, I was mentally leaning my head back to stop from falling forward. My head was high in the clouds. Thoughts?

All creation is oneness. The whole of creation comes from oneness, and returns to oneness. When their individuality disappears, they become the oneness.

    Getting started

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 07:40 PM PDT

Lately, I've been focusing on mental health and I have been looking into meditation. I have been hearing how great it is for anxiety and plenty of other things, the only problem is that I don't know how to start. What are some things I should do as a beginner?

    Nightmares

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 12:13 AM PDT

Is it normal to get nightmares when I start meditating? I normally don't meditate, but whenever I try to start I always end up getting nightmares when I sleep. I just want to know what I should do about it and how to make it go away. It's been making me stop meditation completely, and stopping seems to be the only way to get the nightmares to go away. I want to meditate but I don't think I can cause of the dreams I get from it 😔

I created a playlist that really helps me stay focused during my meditation sessions. It has a very calm ambient vibe with subtle piano on top. I thought some people might like it and it can help them to stay focused during their sessions. Feel free to give it a listen. Hope you like it!

What meditation communities, besides this one, are y'all a part of? How do you find these communities? Any groups of young adults in their 20s? Any Latino groups or groups of people of color?

I would like to a community to share my experiences and learn more. Any suggestions are welcomed!

When you’re sitting in meditation and your awareness moves to different parts of your body, is that a thought?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 05:06 PM PDT

For example, I can feel the shift when my awareness moves from my left nostril to my right or my left hand to my right or across an even more restricted space. Is this in essence a thought? Or is it something else?

Surrender is reducing voluntary, deliberate effort in the physical, attentional, and decisional

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 10:53 PM PDT

    Video here

You can think of surrender as reducing a certain kind of tension: the tension over which you have deliberate voluntary control. Anything that happens automatically and involuntarily in the mind and body is just fine -- only that which feels like YOUR burden, YOUR decision -- in the body, in the attention, and in the mental decisions of the mind -- should be relaxed. The deliberate, voluntary grasping should be reduced. While grasping has an object, relaxation has none. It should also be clear that relaxation is not about preventing any particular thought or action from occurring -- any kind of rigid prevention of anything would simply be a tension in the other direction.

In this relaxation of voluntary tension... a relative quiet is created. If that quiet is vigilantly maintained without the mind going to sleep, and if one asks intensely and continuously how the surrender may be completed, the door will open and the Truth will become apparent: that there was never anyone to deliberately, voluntarily control anything.
