Welcome to Form Check Friday! Here is the link to all previous Form Check Fridays

Please post a photo or video of the stretch you'd like to be critiqued. Do include any specific questions you have about your form.

Your video or photo should be:

    • Oriented the correct way, we want to see the lines of your body
    • Be formatted such that there isn't unnecessary video of you preparing for the move (keep it short)
    • Have the important bits of the movement clearly visible (multiple angles is always useful)
    • Include the whole body

    Rules for critiquing form

    • Constructive criticism only
    • Feel free to point others to resources that address their form and/or questions if you aren't "qualified" to give them advice yourself

If your form is awesome, consider posting it in the Show Off Sunday thread!

    Any advice?

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 12:07 AM PDT

Hello! I'm a 17 year old male athlete looking to start my mobility journey. I play 3 sports and lift/condition regularly, but I've always been extremely stiff. I run stiff, can't touch my toes, have 24/7 back pain, etc. To put it in perspective the furthest I can go when touching my toes is my mid thigh, and my coach's nickname for me is gramps because he says I run like an old man. And to be honest, I feel like an old man! I am trying to become more mobile and flexible but a lot of the routines I see online involve moves and positions I can't even begin to get into. I mainly want more mobility in my back, hips, and lower body. Could anyone point me toward a back and hips routine I can do 3-4 times a week that is 30 min or less and is geared toward extremely stiff people? Thanks!

Suggestions? Both feet are pointed and the back foot and knee are showing to the floor. Stuck there for a while.

I only just learn I'm not stretching my hamstrings

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 09:32 PM PDT

After all this time I only just realised I've probably never stretched my hamstrings. Doing hamstring stretches I always felt it in my calves and behind my knee. I didn't realise this wasn't normal until recently. I hurt my hamstring on my right side and the myotherapist said its really tight.

So in my research I've figured out that bending my knee I can feel stretches in my hamstrings a little bit. What else can you suggest of hamstring stretches or to actually stretch my hamstrings rather than my calves and sciatic nerve I believe it is.

Also would this have been something that is one of the causes for reaching a standstill in my stretching?

    Advice on strange knee feeling?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2020 09:02 AM PDT

Hey guys. First time here but I could really do with some advice. I've been doing flexibility exercises all through lockdown and I've finally resumed pole dancing now that gyms are open. I noticed yesterday while doing a glute bridge that I get like this weird tingly sensation on my knee cap when I come up? No pain, no discomfort anywhere else, can walk around and up/down stairs fine. I've been working my middle splits daily so it's possible my knee has taken a bit of a beating which is why I'm posting here. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or something similar and if it is something to worry about? Should I take a break from splits? I appreciate any advice!
