| I deleted or minimized all social medias in attempt to see what effect it has on my mental health. Posted: 16 Aug 2020 07:29 PM PDT I'm interested to see the results. I've fought and bargained with social media for so long but I just hit a final straw today with how it subtly affects my mental health.
Interestingly enough, the one thing I will keep is facebook. It's actually not a toxic place for me at all. [link] [comments] |
You’re only as busy as your mind is. Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:16 AM PDT Recently, I've had a pretty stressful work-life, putting in a lot of extra hours and taking on additional responsibilities. This has resulted in me feeling "busy." In meditation this week, though, I recognized that I don't need to focus on the 18 things on my to-do list, I only need to focus on one thing: now. Because of that realization, my mind became a much less busy place. In turn, I "felt" less busy, though my workload remained the same. [link] [comments]
I want a good relationship with my mind. Posted: 16 Aug 2020 07:04 PM PDT Ever since I started meditating, I feel myself losing trust in my mind and thus myself. A feeling of down, depressed, despair. I like being able to separate from negative thoughts, but what if those thoughts are true? I don't wana ignore anything...i feel Like I can't be trusted because I have this whacky over-thinking brain that says negative shit. I question everything now. What to believe? I feel more broken and split than I do put together and whole. I'm definitely being hard on myself, but I've just been in a weird consciousness for a few years. I function fine and do very well for myself on the outside. But I'm just "meh" on the inside. I don't get it? Any tips? [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:16 AM PDT Don't be attached or averse to any experience. Not even the meditative state of mind. If you are attached to the meditative state of mind, you are averse to being lost. Only through being lost can we be found. [link] [comments]
Instead of focusing on my breath I focused on a small green light. Posted: 16 Aug 2020 06:07 PM PDT I noticed this helped immensely as my breathing sometimes would suffocate while I was aware of it. I feel better and less anxious. Does anyone here use an object? [link] [comments]
Become friend of your thoughts... Posted: 16 Aug 2020 08:13 PM PDT ...rather than an enemy or lover. I don't know if this is an existing quote or not but it came to me in the early hours this morning! [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Aug 2020 06:05 PM PDT Hi. I'm new to meditation but I did my researchs. If I didn't get it wrong, mindfullness is letting pass all the thoughts in your brain and observing them with a different view. Meditation is letting go all of the thoughts in your brain. If so, which one should I start first in order to achive a successfull life-style. And if these statements is not correct. What are them actually and what is their differences. [link] [comments]
I couldn't feel my body while meditating? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:09 PM PDT Hi there. I've recently begun doing guided meditations (just YouTube videos I follow along with). I've done them for a few weeks, but last night while I was meditating I was suddenly aware that I couldn't feel my body? I didn't feel there but I wasn't asleep, I don't know what it was. I got very freaked out and ended it early. Is that supposed to happen? [link] [comments]
For people who experience anxiety or overthink during the day: This tip changed my life. Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:11 AM PDT Chronic overthinker here. Meditation has been great and alleviated my symptoms to a degree, but I'm still a beginner. I still had trouble when I was out and about to re-center myself and become calm. First off I want to say that I got this tip from Dr.K of healthygamer on YouTube. If you haven't checked this guy out, please do. He's amazing and a pretty relatable guy. Even if you're not a "gamer" you will learn a ton. Anyways, here the tip. When you're feeling anxious or overthinking, just inhale big and exhale big. Focus on your exhale. It doesn't have to be this big spectacle. The breath can be moderate and you can do it through your nose. That way you can do it in social situations without looking weird. Do this for as long as you need. It's scientifically backed where apparently it activates your parasympathetic nervous system instead of your sympathetic. The sympathetic is responsible for Adrenalin and stress hormones alike, while the parasympathetic chills you out and bring you more to the "meditative state." This changed my life because it gave me a more day to day tool to combat my anxiety. The tips of "being mindful" and looking at what's around me never really worked. [link] [comments]
Adding noting (Mahasi style) to my meditation? Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:56 AM PDT Hi I have learned vipassana meditation in the body scan system of Sayagyi U Ba Khin - in the dhamma.org organisation of his student Goenka. Lately, however, I frequently hear the criticism that this system does not utilise the noting system of Mahasi Sayadaw. Some mindfulness teachers (e.g. Shinzen Young) seem to emphasise the noting system over the body scan system (while praising both as valid ways of practising). Do you have comparative experience with these two systems? Would you recommend me, a body scan meditator, to incorporate or switch to the noting system? [link] [comments]
Still having trouble with meditation Posted: 16 Aug 2020 09:54 PM PDT I wrote a post a week or so ago about me beginning meditation and I got a lot of helpful tips from people. I've been meditating for the past week and I can't really say I've gotten anything from it. I'll tell you that I'm one of the most impatient ppl and Ik one week isn't enough but my problem is I still don't think I'm meditating correctly. I've been reading some things today and before, I thought meditation was to help clear my mind and think about the present state I'm in. Idk where I got that from and that could be completely off. But now, am I gathering from random bits and pieces that meditation and the focus on breathing is a mental exercise and it's training the mind to focus on one thing? I'm just confused, any help would be great. Thanks [link] [comments]
Meditation for Anxiety and OCD Posted: 17 Aug 2020 01:07 AM PDT Hey I'm new here and I just wanted to know if you guys have any advice or stories of how meditation or other things have helped you when it comes to anxiety and ocd. I am currently going though a really bad heartbreak, and I recently was diagnosed with ocd. I know I've had it my whole life but I now finally get to work on it. I have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression previously, and I'm still dealing with it. I have tried meditation when I was originally diagnosed with it and after a mental hospital stay. It helped me a little but it got really hard to do it every night. Any tips? Any things I should do specifically for ocd or anxiety? My goal is to be able to be more mindful and be able to ignore my obsessions. I am currently subscribed to the Calm app. [link] [comments]
| Posted: 16 Aug 2020 06:04 PM PDT Since I was a kid I would close my eyes and relax and would "see" visuals behind my eye lids. Trying my best to accurately describe but in my "field of vision" I would "see" black and as if electrical, white out lines. If I tried to "focus" on the images they would disappear and only would see black again. Meditating the other night just staring at the dark sky I experienced something similar Anyone else? | Posted: 16 Aug 2020 11:48 PM PDT I've been meditating for 4+ years, and currently have a 265 day streak, and meditate 1 hour a day plus yoga. I really want to take my spiritual journey a step further and be able to communicate with God or my Source as I've seen mentioned from users who have read Autobiography of Yogi. Perhaps the technique that Yogananda had used? I'm really wanting to get deeper into my spiritual journey here. [link] [comments] |
Are there Dangers/Downsides to meditation? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 11:43 PM PDT I've dipped my feet into meditation before. I know there are supposed to be some major benefits. I'm just worried because I heard people say it can cause bad things / be dangerous. Also I want to put it in here I'm schizophrenic, but I haven't had any problems in a long time. [link] [comments]
Interesting meditation session Posted: 16 Aug 2020 01:20 PM PDT I put my music on (Minecraft ost) and am just meditating for about 15 mins. In the last minute or so, something new happened to me. I could see a Grey background forming from the dots you see when you close your eyes with a pale pair of hands, it was like being in a Grey speckled womb, and then suddenly it changed to a lime green background with these rings of yellow and blue appearing like bruises on a canvas. It felt very ethereal like I was floating. What is this called in particular? I was going to follow what i was seeing but since I am new to meditation I didn't want to venture into something I'm not ready for yet. [link] [comments]

Body energy Vibrations while meditating Posted: 16 Aug 2020 09:12 PM PDT I meditate every night before going to sleep. Last week, I started feeling my bed moving. at first, I thought that it could be an earthquake which is unlikely in TX. It kept happening until I realized it was my body's energy vibrating unto my surroundings. Has this happened to anybody else in their meditating journey? Should I be concerned ? [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Aug 2020 09:08 PM PDT I'm reading a book and the author highly recommends using Hemi-sync. I haven't done much research yet, but what are some initial opinions on this method? Any users? [link] [comments]
