Knee injury rehab recommendations Posted: 29 Aug 2020 06:46 PM PDT Hey guys, I had my inner meniscus of my right knee partially removed a couple of years back and I'm looking for some videos of building up leg strength through yoga that also take into account variations for knee pain. I have been doing Yoga with Tim on YouTube and also a couple of real life lessons here and there but would really like to focus on my knee flexibility and leg strength before I get back into it. Does anyone have advice on where i could start? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:30 PM PDT I just finished my 200-hr YTT and am wondering about teaching attire. I typically practice in either long yoga pants with a tight top (crop top, longline sports bra) or in yoga shorts with a longer top. I hate when my clothes move around and prefer tight-fitting clothing so I don't mess with them. My teacher commented on one of my teaching videos (we did a lot virtual bc of covid) that she would suggest a more conservative top because there was a little side boob. What are your thoughts on teacher attire? That top is one that I wear to yoga a lot because it has good compression. For reference, I'm 5'10" and about 125lb (so fairly thin) and I'm not overly boob-y. Does your teacher's clothing distract you? Mine never has and I've never thought about it. [link] [comments]
Swollen abdomen during and after yoga or exercise Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:50 PM PDT Hello everyone, :) Curious if anyone experiences severe abdominal swelling during and after yoga, and, during any physical movement or exercise. Many years ago while cycling, I felt something heavy in the area between my sternum and navel. I was not doing anything strenuous like intervals or race pace training. The heaviness made physical efforts a bit harder and I could not belly breath as deeply because something felt "in the way" in that area. During this time my body weight increased by 15 pounds within a month with no changes to diet, sleep or exercise. Over the years, the swelling would get more pronounced, especially after every bowel movement and any amount of exercise, even 10 minutes. Body weight continued to gradually increase (have more overall puffiness rather than being lean like before). I also have overall body soreness in the morning not matter how early I went to bed the night before. I wake up feeling unrefreshed and like I was in a car wreck. It has reached the point that I had to stop yoga and other physical exercise because my abdomen would get swollen like a lady four to six months pregnant. I've had many labs and tests and everything came back normal. I ruled out it being food related because I experience the pregnant swelling no matter what foods I eat. I also experience the swelling even drinking water. I also don't eliminate as much water considering the amount I drink throughout the day. It feels like my body is retaining everything I drink rather than eliminating it like it did before the onset of these symptoms. It has been a mystery that many doctors I've seen over the years (medical and naturopathic) cannot find a root cause for the extreme swelling after exercise and bowel movements. Would appreciate any insight people on this forum may provide because no doctors to date have been successful in helping. Thank you. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:31 AM PDT Looking for some help because I'm wondering if this should be concerning. I did a round of yin yoga with downdog app yesterday. One of the stretches was where you lean your head to one side, place your hand on your head to stretch your neck a bit, and after a while I was instructed to rotate my head to look up at the ceiling and down at the floor. I definitely felt a stretch, but no pain. I was trying to be mindful because I have TMD issues on one side. Today I wake up and it's like there's a tight band around my head. I know that it's a sort of tension headache, but it's not one that I usually get — mine usually manifest on the problem side of my head/jaw and that's it. This has happened before if I focus on neck stretches. Should I regard it like any other sore muscle and give it a rest before continuing neck stretches later? I just can't tell if this is a good or bad change. My shoulders and neck are always really tight so I'd like to address them and hopefully find relief. [link] [comments]

How do I get from tripod headstand with knees on elbows, to full tripod headstand? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 09:38 AM PDT Hi yogis! Hoping for some advice. I can't seem to get from a tripod headstand with knees on elbows up into a full tripod headstand. I can get one leg up, but not both. Would love some insight on why not and if I need to strengthen a certain body part to do so. Thank you! [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Aug 2020 03:28 AM PDT In our practice we concentrate on the body, the breath, and the mind. Our senses are included as part of the mind. Although it theoretically appears possible for body, breath, and mind to work independent of one another, the purpose of yoga is to unify their actions. It is primarily the physical aspect of our practice that people see as yoga. They will rarely notice how we breathe, how we feel the breath, and how we coordinate our breathing with our physical movement; they tend to only see our flexibility and suppleness. Some may want to know how many āsanas we have mastered or how many minutes we can stay in a headstand. -The heart of yoga(ch 3) [link] [comments]
