    First handstand off the wall!

I’ve never had an interest in lots of furniture or making my place look full. I am so grateful for my yoga space.

Beginners Yoga with Adriene... Just too hard for me

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 09:51 AM PDT

    Hi all,

First off I do know it's better in-person for things like this, but it is not something I can afford. I have attended a yoga class in-person but it wasn't the right environment for me and the instructor did not go around to help people with their poses so there really wasn't a difference from following an online class. I also know that people's bodies are different and we might not feel the pull in the same places as other people, so a personal trainer is always best.

I have looked up a ton of yoga classes online and fell upon Beginner's Yoga with Adriene. I completed the first day and I'm feeling a bit demotivated. Are these poses really beginner poses? I couldn't do a lot of them. Downward dog I had to look up modification videos, and I couldn't hold myself up for the plank. The cobra was also a struggle (really anything that requires arm or upper body strength).

Is it better to start with generic strength and flexibility workouts before going into Yoga? I've always been fascinated with Yoga and I've started and stopped yoga for years now, but I really want to commit to getting back into it this time.

My first attempt at tripod pose! Any suggestions to improve my technique?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 02:58 PM PDT

[COMP] If anyone can offer advice on my downward dog, I try and reach my hips up as much as possible. It definitely doesn’t feel like a “rest pose” to me. Anything is appreciated :)

A newbie question, just bought one of those mats, which side of the mat should face the floor? The black or the red side? Thank u

    Took a day off

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 05:37 PM PDT

So I took the day off after thinking it over. I'm on meds so I am starting to feel better. Thankfully day 4 of the 30 day challenge was pretty gentle. My back and neck kinda needed it. I took things nice and slow.

I'm slightly overwhelmed by the [FAQs]. I'm a newbie

Is there a simple, basic set of moves that I can just do at home daily? Is sun salutation the thing I should be doing?

All these hour long videos on YouTube with petite flexible women are a bit beyond me.

    Thanks, from a bigger dude

3 years in, having a hard time getting back into it

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 12:32 PM PDT

Hi all - I've been doing yoga for a bit, but fell off the wagon a few months ago because #LIFE. I used to go daily, and I was in the best shape of my life, mostly working through vinyasa flows.

Any tips/tricks/ideas on how to get back into it would be great! I'm struggling with a bit of (understandable) depressiveness and fatigue, given the state of everything, and I know it will help center me.

    Much appreciated. 🕉

Splits suggestions— How can I get there? I’ve never been so close! I honestly didn’t think I would ever be able to. My practice just flowed today ☀️

What does my right leg’s weird position when I try to sit down on dandasana or just having my legs straighten when I sit down mean? TIA

Any self taught Yogi's able to share their Forearm balance routine?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 11:54 AM PDT

Any recommendations or daily routines that you would recommend for working into forearm balance? Tbh my fear is flipping over and my neck snapping lol

Just recently cancelled my studio membership and I would say my level of practice is lower intermediate with better than average flexibility. Want to get into a good home routine so I can conquer this pose next (learned headstand) so now I'm motivated for the next thing! Also if you don't mind sharing how long it took you I would really appreciate it! Thank you so much for any tips/feedback that youre able to provide. ❤️

More resources about the philosophy of yoga

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 09:25 AM PDT

I'm looking to learn more about the significance of different postures, and the history through a means such as YouTube. But I find it hard to discover because everything you find is typical yoga sessions.

Almost like i'm looking for something similar to what you'd find in teacher training, but i'm not looking to become a teacher or engage in that level of commitment right now.

When you listen to yourself, everything comes naturally. It comes from inside, like a kind of will to do something. Try to be sensitive. That is yoga. -- Petri Räisänen

If the mind falls asleep, awaken it. Then if it starts wandering, make it quiet. If you reach the state where there is neither sleep nor movement of mind, stay still in that, the natural (real) state.

Leggings for Hot Yoga Practice - Delivery to UK!?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 02:36 AM PDT

I'm looking for a good priced company that sells leggings which would survive in a hot yoga environment. Right now I'm not practising in the hot room (and not much at all as I have a fractured metatarsal :( ) but I don't really want to get Adidas or Nike based on the current stuff about Uighurs in China being used for slave labour.

Any recommendations of smaller companies with good quality leggings?!

Use Yoga to reduce my health anxiety and now found out the PVC mat I am doing yoga on is carcinogen?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 09:26 AM PDT

Not sure if my mind is spiraling out of control but have been using a pvc matt for yoga for 3-4 times a week and leave it with me in the room.

Now i an worried the gases from the matt and me touching it on a regular basis have heightened the risk of me getting cancer by a lot? Am I just being daft?

Do a lot of people use pvc mats on here?
