| Posted: 20 Jan 2021 06:54 AM PST So I'm trying to get more into yoga, and her breathe series is amazing. One of the things she's said is to press through the fingers and knuckles to save the wrists, and I'd like someone to expand on that please? I can't work out what she's saying at all. Thanks! | Making adjustments from one pose to another Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:00 AM PST Hello everyone! I've been doing yoga for two years now (just YouTube videos), and it seems I can not stop myself from making small adjustments when I move from one pose to another. For example, to go from plank to downward facing dog, I need to move my feet closer to feel steady (also, I can not put my heels down in downward dog). To go from warrior one to warrior two, I need to adjust my feet as well. Is that normal for beginners? When I see the videos, the transitions look so smooth! Thank you! ( this is my first post on Reddit, please be kind :) [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 20 Jan 2021 12:37 PM PST Hi, I'm currently taking a break from my yoga practice because of some medical issues and I'm scared I'll lose all the progress I've made over the last few months. Anyone else have been through a break and how was your comeback? I miss it so much... [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:59 AM PST What words of wisdom do you have for someone new to teaching & struggling with the exposure? The sexualization of yoga makes me uncomfortable to be observed. I'm considering changing my style away from modern yoga-pants to the more traditional baggy clothing. I'm also meditating on this topic for guidance, but would appreciate some input from fellow instructors who may have insight on overcoming this issue. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jan 2021 02:57 PM PST To start, I've done yoga for years but haven't ever taken the time to really understand why I'm doing it and often would do it for a week and then stop for a couple months or at times years in between. Now I'm trying to really dig into it for the health benefits as I start to get older (I'm not very old just wanting to keep myself healthy as I age). I usually do Yoga with Adrienne. I've been to yoga studios too but prefer the at home practice to go at my speed. Please excuse some lack of official terminology and feel free to help expand my vocabulary if you're willing! A couple things I've noticed about myself when I practice. I numbered each so it's easy for anyone to reference if they'd be so kind to reply.

| Posted: 20 Jan 2021 08:10 PM PST My birthday was yesterday, and I decided I wanted to treat myself to a new mat! I'm hoping some of you have used these brands and can offer some insight. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 20 Jan 2021 01:51 PM PST I have very bad flexibility and because of working at home I have a lot of time on my hands. I could easily do 2/3 hours of yoga per day. My question is. Is this dangerous? Is it possible to stretch to much and do too much yoga? [link] [comments] |
| What to do if you don't have the willpower to do yoga? Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:41 AM PST Hello friends! I was thinking to start doing yoga, found a series of videos, read about kapalbhati, agnisara, etc. but I do not seem to have the willpower or self-discipline to do it, at least on regular bases. If you had similar experience, how did you get over it? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
| Prenatal Yoga Recommendations? Posted: 20 Jan 2021 04:54 PM PST Hi all! I just discovered this sub and I'm excited to be a part of this community. Anyways, I've been practicing yoga on and off for the past 3-4 years. Mostly off. But the past year I'd gotten back into a regular practice. I was really enjoying doing sun salutation B daily with some extra poses thrown in, at my own pace. I'd also occasionally do "dynamic yoga" from the Centr app. Now I'm almost halfway through pregnancy and, after a bad bout of hyperemesis (severe morning sickness), trying to pick up where I left off is too difficult. About a week ago I downloaded the Down Dog - Prenatal app but I'm not loving it. It seems to be mostly seated poses (which I'm sure I'll appreciate in a couple months) but for now I'd like some more challenging standing poses. Does anyone have recommendations for prenatal yoga that isn't quite as "gentle" while still being pregnancy-friendly? [link] [comments] |
| Intermediate Series on YouTube Posted: 20 Jan 2021 09:50 AM PST Hello, Can anybody recommend any good intermediate yoga series on YouTube? Looking for something like 14 videos or so that get progressively harder or work towards certain poses. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
| Advice on yoga Youtubers who use a lot of props? Posted: 20 Jan 2021 03:23 AM PST Hi, everyone, i started yoga in February, and ever since then i mostly worked with Adriene. I really like her style, her casual chattiness, sense of humor, etc. However, she doesn't really use props, except for maybe an ocassional block here and there. I got a yoga wheel and a strap for Christmas and i really like them, but it's still hard for me to think of my own flows. I also have two foam blocks that i bought myself sometime in summer. I would like some advice on youtubers who use the props frequently in their videos and maybe ones that do more inversions because i would really like to get into those (I'm pretty weak and i gain strength really slow, so doing inversions, even years from now, would be am amazing accomplishment for me to look forward to), and that they have a similar "teaching style" to Adriene. My preferred practice length on most days is 30-40 minutes (if I'm short on time, I'll do really short ones and if i really need a full practice I'll do a longer ones). Thank you in advance! P.S. this sub is great and i find a lot of inspiration here. You people are awesome! [link] [comments] |
| Question about snapping behind knee Posted: 20 Jan 2021 01:49 PM PST Hi everyone! I've been doing yoga for several years now. Not as consistently as some, but have been recently! Only I have been experiencing a snapping... tendon behind my knee? I'm not sure what it is and hope someone could give me advice. It's not necessarily painful, but uncomfortable. It hasn't always been going on either and I can't seem to stretch enough for it to stop, which I initially thought maybe that's what I needed to do. I only notice this happening when I'm doing a forward fold and I am "walking it out" and I only feel this in my right leg. Please help me understand how to fix this!? Edit: I want to mention that this isn't happening at all in my knee, it's behind it on my leg to the left side behind the knee. I don't if I'm making sense. There is no pain swelling or stiffness. | Posted: 20 Jan 2021 11:50 AM PST Maybe someone here will have a suggestion for me? I've had two different instructors who both just said "well don't do that anymore." But downward dog was done several times every class... I get pain where my ring finger connects to my palm on both hands that starts to radiate down my finger and palm. I've since some posts here about thumb pain but not other fingers. Is there a modification I can do? Or am I maybe placing pressure wrong? [link] [comments] |

| What would be the best online Yoga classes? Posted: 20 Jan 2021 02:44 AM PST Are the best ones all behind a paywall or can you get great classes for free on YouTube? I don't mind paying for classes but I'd also like to know what I can get for free and if the paid ones are worth it. [link] [comments] |
| My honest review of the Alo Warrior Mat. Posted: 19 Jan 2021 09:08 PM PST Thought I'd leave this here for anyone searching for reviews of this mat, because the company makes it extremely difficult to leave product reviews on their site (they told me I'd get an email two weeks after purchase to leave a review but I don't think I ever got one). For Christmas I bought the Warrior mat in Smoky Quartz, $100. I only recently got serious about my practice and knew next to nothing about mats, had only ever had cheap foam ones. I rolled the dice on this one because the colors looked great, and I felt I could trust the company. Fair warning though: their mats are final sale, and cannot be returned. Color: first of all, the colors on the Alo site are EXTREMELY INACCURATE. Honestly as a graphic designer I'm shocked these images were approved. The Smoky Quartz color is NOT PINK, not even a little bit. It's more of a dark mauve-brown color. I actually like it more than the color on the site but it wasn't what I paid for and it was jarring when I pulled it out of the box. Material: this mat is made of polyurethane leather with 100% rubber bottom. It is very high quality, and feels worth the price. It's really heavy and would not be suitable for travel. It creases easily so you want to make sure you can store it somewhere where it isn't near corners and edges, for example rolled on its side under the bed. It smells pretty strongly like rubber but I can't say it bothers me. Size: just over 6' long. I'm about 5'8" and it's been the perfect size for me. Care: I cannot stress this enough - DO NOT PUT YOUR FACE DIRECTLY ON THE MAT. Again, I knew nothing about PU and the site didn't warn against body oils, I wish it would have. The first time I used it and did child's pose, there was a forehead-shaped oil stain on the mat that wouldn't come out (this WILL happen to some degree even if you don't have oily skin). I eventually got most of it out with a white vinegar + water mixture, but not completely. This solution does work well for normal cleaning, so if you care for the mat properly from the moment you get it, it should continue to look nice. Having said that, I haven't done a sweaty practice yet and I've only had the mat for a few weeks so we'll see what it looks like in a year. If I need to put my face on the mat, I put a small cloth down first (I keep it rolled up inside the mat). It interrupts the flow a bit but not a dealbreaker for me. I also wash my hands and wipe my feet before stepping onto the mat. If this sounds like too much work, I would suggest getting the black color, or a different mat. This thing really is a magnet, so keep that in mind. Function: again, I can't speak to sweat, but so far the grip of this mat is incredible. I feel completely grounded and supported throughout my practice, and that really allows me to be present. Despite the grippiness, rolling over the toes hasn't been uncomfortable in my experience. This mat is on the thin side, so not sure it's best for joints that need a lot of cushioning. BOTTOM LINE: Now that I've had this mat for a few weeks and know how to care for it, I can say that I truly love it. It's a pleasure to practice on, and it looks beautiful (so far). I haven't used any of the other popular mats, so I can't compare them. But if you can handle a mat that's a little high maintenance, but provides a great experience, I would 100% recommend this one. | My eyes feel like they're going to pop out of my head during/just after a handstand, how to improve? Posted: 20 Jan 2021 02:28 AM PST Takes me like 5 minutes to recover lol, it's almost as if all of the blood in my body just falls at terminal velocity into my head instantly. Usually spend around 10 seconds in that position, and do about 5 reps. Is there anyway to improve? Is it abnormal and dangerous or just natural? [link] [comments] |
