    1. what I say I do now.

    1. My health is good.

    2. My mind is in peace.

    3. Self control has increased.

    4. Have more love and compassion for others.

    5. Showing gratitude to others more than before.

    6. I am living in present now. This is the real key of happiness i have ever found.

8.I do not talk much now.

    1. I have more patience now.

    2. More over do things following middle path.

Male practitioners : Any tips for getting comfortable in cow lips pose? (slight nsfw)

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 05:23 AM PDT

Male organ yoga members, I need your cow lip tips. I've tried everything; looser underwear, tighter underwear, no underwear, I just can't get comfortable in the cow lips pose. Add a fold to to the cowlips pose and it gets painful. I've tried over thighs, under thighs and no matter what, extreme discomfort. Its been two years now and it is not any easier. Any tips from the male practitioners?

Yoga is now my journey and my life.

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 03:30 PM PDT

Hello amazing people. I write this to you all with a heavy heart.

I just turned 25 years old and my whole life has been about sports. Started playing soccer at 4, was on the best team in the nation at 14, played on the national team when I was 18, and got high school rewards such as First Team All American, First Team All State. Soccer was my life.

Long story short, after feeling the highest of highs for sport achievements I felt the lowest of lows. My grades were awful, my attitude was cocky and awful, i was a insecure man. I played at a college near me and randomly fell out of love with soccer and picked up Mixed Martial Arts. I came to a conclusion that soccer was over for me. I just wasn't good enough to play at the Pro level. And I needed to get my life together mentally.

I started doing MMA from 19-25 and was amazing at all but still always had these terrible nagging injuries. After MMA practice two days ago I had enough of the pain ! I took my ass to the doctors and wanted to see what's going on.

Doctor looked at me after he ran some test on me and said " son you will be walking with a cane by the age of 40 if you keep doing what you're doing, you're the tightest young man I've ever seen "

I asked him "what do I do then "with a worry look on my face .. the doctor said " you need to stretch for thousands and thousands of hours - make yoga your best friend kid "

Now here I am writing this to you all. Tomorrow will be my first day of Yoga ever. I'm excited for this journey and living a pain free life. :( Everything else in my life will be put on hold. I don't even care about any athletics anymore, I just want to get flexible and less stiff. Hopefully when I feel better I can get back into Jiu Jitsu :(

How can I avoid culture appropriation when practicing at home?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:54 PM PDT

Hi! So I've been doing yoga on and off in a casual manner for a few years now. I primarily started it to help strengthen my back and gain more flexibility to help ease the pain from my scoliosis and herniated disc- in that manner it's been incredibly helpful.

However, a friend of mine expressed some displeasure when I brought up I do yoga, primarily because yoga has been largely whitewashed and appropriated- which is true.

I don't want to appropriate something that is spiritual and important to another culture, but it has benefited my life in so many ways that I really don't see stopping as an option.

What can I do personally to combat/avoid the appropriation in my practice and be more respectful of its origins?

Feet tingling when doing forward folds

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 12:20 PM PDT

English is not my first language, so sorry if I am unclear.

My feet tingle during forward fold (the standing one (uttanasana) and the seated one, but only if I grab my feet ( Paschimottanasana I belive?)). My hamstrings are the least flexible area of my body and folds have always been most challenging for me, but with other muscle groups I can comfortably push myself a bit (in a sensible way, not feeling pain) with folds it feel like my whole body conspires to prevent me from any progress ;).

Any idea what might be the cause?

    Experienced yogis:help about mat thickness

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 09:08 AM PDT

A bit of a background : normal weight lady with knee pain on a 5mm tpe cheap (flying tiger) mat. Sensitive wrists. Yoga styles hatha, yin, want to try nidra and some more dynamic styles but nothing too extreme (vinyasa). Also, pilates, but I have my old mat for support if I need something thicker (I can put one mat over another). Practicing at home, I am not carrying the mat around. I literally fell in love with a Manduka-like mat, the brand is Kurma grip. Is is closed cell PVC. The problem is, they have a thickness of 4,2mm or 6,5mm, nothing in between. Would it be better for me to go for 4,2 mm and use modifications and/or pads for my wrists and pads for my knees, or go for the 6,5mm? I am afraid that the thicker one will compromise my balance during some poses, that's my only concern. Wise yogis, Please help me choose! 🙏🏻❤️💕💖 Edit, I practice on laminate floor.

What are your personal experiences with Yoga/Pranayaama?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 02:43 AM PDT

My first experience with Yoga was probably seeing my Dad attempt to do some postures like shoulder stand. I was really fascinated by few of them as a kid and tried to pull them off as aerobics.
I think the second one was perhaps popular TV yoga through Baba Ramdev. Neither of those were any deep experiences but just made me aware of this facet.
The first time I sincerely picked Yoga was through the art of living yoga course. A 5 day course where I got introduced to a lot of the postures, their sequencing, some pranayamas etc. Personally, I noticed that they did make me require less sleep. I was suddenly getting up at 5 AM without any issues by doing all the kapalabhati and other postures. Needless to say, after a few weeks, I freaked out that I was losing touch with my regular life (hanging out with friends, getting up late etc.) So, I stopped the Yoga.

Since then, I have taken up many Yoga courses and many styles of Yoga. I have always noticed that they do alter the energy flow in the body.
With a consistent practice, I can always see noticeable changes in my flexibility. However, I do add that I have also seen that most Yoga classes are more focused on flexibility than true Yoga. I can't say how many times I have felt that the previous instructor was completely wrong. The truth is that most of these '200 hour' yoga teachers are not really doing it right. If you are fortunate enough to have a master or a teacher who has been practicing for more than 5-10 years, then you are in safer hands.

I also have noticed that there's a lot of difference between doing a short Yoga session at your home vs doing it in a class with a good instructor. Yoga is about all the little details. When I do it at home, after a while, there's a tendency to rush things through which misses the whole point. Being in a group sometimes helps me with that.

With Pranayamas and Kriyas, I usually see an immediate calming effect on the body and physiology. And I have used them as aids to quiten the body and mind before attempting meditation.

Beyond that, I can say there's a lot to Yoga that I don't really comprehend yet. I know it's more than aerobics and gymnastics that many people are trying to reduce it too. And I also know that many of the powerful practices require dedication that I am unable to muster (and I guess there might be few others like me too). It's like you can literally try to perfect one posture for your entire lifetime and that might be a good Yoga practice for you.

I can now say that I appreciate the energy centers (chakras) and how the Yoga postures impact them at a very high level. I will be very humble and admit that I might be wrong.

I would add that I have had lot more success practicing Yoga than thinking or reading about it. Books also helped prepare my mind to dedicate time. However, I learnt a lot more from one month of daily immersive classes with a good teacher than I ever did reading anatomies, watching youtube videos, DVDs etc.

Also, in my experience, most people who practice/teach Yoga are sincere humans exploring another dimension of life. There are definitely a lot of people who have turned it into a commercial business & I have often found their practices to only provide limited superficial benefits for me.

Of course, that's my experience and also my interpretation of the sequence of events that happened to me. Everyone has a different one.

    Yoga with Psoriatic Arthritis

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 12:02 PM PDT

Hi, I am looking for a set of videos I could follow along to which will help me with my psoriatic arthritis. I am a 31 year old Male and before getting it at the start of the year was fairly physically fit. Joints affected are my toes, knees, hips, knuckles, shoulders and neck. So just a few! I have about 20 minutes in the evening after putting my little girl to bed and before cooking tea. Any help greatly appreciated.

    @Yoga Teachers

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 10:58 AM PDT

    Hey everyone!

I know yoga is about the journey inward and our relationship to ourselves, but I want to be physically prepared for the asanas so I can focus more on the teachings and not feel overwhelmed.

How many sun salutations should I be able to do? What poses should I be comfortable in? How long and often should I be training before hand? What was your experience like? Are there any books you can recommend? Any information is helpful!

How often should I practice Yoga?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 09:33 AM PDT

    Hi!

I'm still fairly new to the Yoga path and its ways. I started with an 8-weeks Ashtanga course before I had a couple of years without any physical Yoga practice, only meditation. Then I did some Yoga with Adrienne videos for a couple of months, before I tried some Raja style type of Yoga. Now I've just started with Hatha Yoga and it appealed to me.

I'm planning on continuing to do 40-60 minutes of Hatha Yoga every day onwards. Including some meditation practice. Is it too much if I start doing two Hatha sessions every day? What about 1 Hatha and 1 session with another type of style?

Also, my Raja Yoga teacher said one should wait before starting with Pranayama techniques, when, if one could answer that question easily, is the right time to start practicing such?

Those of you working on particular poses (inversions, arm balances), do you incorporate it into your flow, or do you practice it separately?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 08:33 AM PDT

Pretty much the question above. I'm using the Down Dog app for my practice, but headstands are never put in the sequences. I figured maybe it's at a higher difficulty—I'm on intermediate I. I'd like to start working on it, and I guess I could just go into it after the sequence is over. Was just wondering what you guys do when working on a certain pose.

    Chaturanga alternatives for arm injury?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 02:23 AM PDT

I injured myself practising bakasana last week (dug my knee so hard into my left arm it's clearly bruised). It doesn't hurt during everyday activities, but lowering myself down into chaturanga dandasana hurts so much my arm just gives up. Lowering my knees also doesn't help much, it still hurts like mad. Plank, down dog and up dog are fine.

I feel like the smart thing would be to avoid this asana until it stops hurting, but I don't want to sacrifice my favorite yoga flows and all of them have many chaturangas, so I was wondering what can I do instead, that would help me strenghten my arms slightly but not push it to the point of pain. Maybe I should just stay in plank and then move to downward facing dog?

    Any advice?

Falling out of love with yoga. Help!

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:40 AM PDT

I've had a week day morning practice for a couple of years now and was really enjoying deepening that during lockdown, doing evening sessions as well and experimenting with different styles and internet teachers.

A couple of months ago I stopped experiencing the same kind of calm and joy when I did yoga and now dont enjoy feeling my body moving through the practice. That physical feeling was what attracted me to yoga in the first place.

I really miss the way yoga used to make me feel. Has anyone got any tips to get that feeling back?
