    Struggling with internal hip rotation

    Posted: 13 Sep 2020 06:54 PM PDT

I practice martial arts. So flexibility is a major stepping stone. I have progressed in my hamstring and hip flexor flexibility and mobility pretty far. I went from not touching my knees to being about 3 inches off the ground in a front split. I'm still about 18inchs off my middle splits(I'm trying lol). Hip rotation is very important for kicks. I have awful internal rotation(3 - 5 degrees) and pretty okay external rotation(although I've plateaued). When I go to stretch my hips for internal rotation. I feel it deep in the back side of my hip. Like deep behind my glutes. I was wondering if this is good or not. Also my hips feel as they need to pop 24/7 no matter how much I warm up. Thanks for the comments :).

    Some questions about flexibility

    Posted: 13 Sep 2020 05:17 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I've got some questions about flexibility.

I've been stretching ( almost) daily for about a year+ and I'm seeing incredibly slow results. Like really slow. Particularly the pancake, pike , front and side splits. Is this normal? Or is it really like you miss a day you lose gains?

Second question. Should I stretch when I'm sore? A lot of times I feel sore the next day or even a few hours later. Does this mean I need to chill a bit?

How long do people keep their stretching routines before they change it up?

Help! I'm putting the work and getting seemingly negative results.

    Thanks

Want to hear opinion from the experts and maybe experiences from years in flexibility journey

    Posted: 14 Sep 2020 05:30 AM PDT

I'm sorry but I just wanna know how long usually it takes for a person to be really soft in the splits. I mean like my case, I have my front split about 3 months and half(this month) ago, I trained from April and my middle split is not complete yet; another 6 inches to go flat, I guess it's a long way to go for this split. To my main point, how long it takes for my front split to be quite soft to that point I could do it without much effort like if I do elbows stand with my legs wide apart; 1 front, another's back, it could open 180• just with gravity alone not with my strength, like passively. Don't worry, I know people have their own natural flexibility, just give some estimation or maybe from your own experiences. I wanna set my goal or to be precise to take a look at the date, the result of training. It doesn't matter if I didn't reach there that time because I'll just keep going till I reach eventually. So, the date is just to keep me inspire in the journey. Some information about my routine, I stretch once in 3 days, 2 days rest and the stretch is intense ones 4-5 hours, run 10km per week. Hope you can understand what I'm trying to say😅

seeking: online classes on Active Isolated Stretching / AIS

    Posted: 13 Sep 2020 11:06 AM PDT

One of my greatest difficulties with flexibility is practicing it regularly. It would really help me to go to a stretching class (distinguishing this from yoga) -- I'm especially interested in practicing Active Isolated Stretching.

Does anyone know of or recommend an online AIS class? I'm in PST but not limited by geography because it would need to be online/Zoom.

    Thanks!

    Hip impingement/strain and frog/horse stance

    Posted: 13 Sep 2020 09:23 AM PDT

    Hello!

I've had overall joint pain and bad flexibility for many years, and it has slowed down my bodyweight training a lot.
So recently, because of some injury I have at my rib cage (pain while breathing) I stopped all workout and decided to focus on my flexibility in the meantime.

My lower body flexibility is way worse than my upper body's (can't deep squat for instance) so I've been following the Splits routine made by Antranik for a few days.

I feel HUGE pain when I:
    - Go into frog stretch, and I stick out my butt (it's during the movement of sticking out)
-Lower myself during the horse stance (sticking out)

Is this kind of pain (which I believe is hip impingement) "normal" during stretching? is it going to get better with stretching, or get worse? Should I stretch or strengthen it? I've had this pain for literal years where I didn't workout, so resting seems to have no effet.

    Post-Surgery stretching

    Posted: 13 Sep 2020 09:26 AM PDT

I am scheduled to have a leg surgery this week and will be in a cast for approximately 2 weeks. I know some stretches will be impossible/difficult to do while in a cast but has anybody found a program or video that's good while in a cast? I've searched google and Youtube and haven't been able to find anything.

If you know of a good one please let me know! Thanks in advance.
