Thoughts about Yoga Practice Intermediate Perspective

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 09:36 AM PDT

I am just sitting here pondering how much yoga means to me. It has completely changed my life. I started yoga last year as a fun way to workout, but didn't realize how much it would change me. Yoga has improved me physically and mentally. My practice has now developed into a full daily practice and I want to continue to grown on my yoga journey. In a way, I feel that every moment in life is an opportunity to perform yoga.I had so many misconceptions about yoga and yoga practice prior to starting. The insignificant details almost stopped me from trying yoga. Did I fit the "mold" of social media yoga? no, but it didn't matter. If you are a beginner, don't let these small details stress you out. Yoga is a beautiful practice that will enhance your life.

[COMP] Wheel Pose - I've not practiced it very much, but since starting regular chiro visits I have so much more freedom in my spine & I'm absolutely loving working on it! Seeing improvement in my downward dog and forward fold as well. I did this little flow 3 times and feel like Gumby now haha

Has Anyone Tried Karin Dimitrovoa's Programs?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 02:37 PM PDT

Hi!! Has anyone tried her programs?? I keep seeing ads about them on Instagram and honestly, they seem like what I am looking for.

I've been practicing yoga for more than a year and have started to take my practice more seriously during quarantine. However, I feel like, in terms of flexibility, I haven't made much progress. I've been doing hamstring/hip stretches every day but my body is still tight!

I got AloMoves and while I do like it a lot of the videos such as Dylan Werner's are too difficult for me because I don't have the strength.

My question is if anyone has tried her programs and has seen progress/results? I want to buy all three of her programs and do them at the same time but it's a risk since they're so expensive. I read in a comment on her IG posts to email her to get a discount on all three has anyone done that? Any info will be super helpful!! Thank u!!

How difficult is it to become a yoga instructor?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 08:22 AM PDT

Hey guys, I hope this is the right place for this question.

I'm pretty beginner to yoga, but I'm really enjoying it and plan to stick with it long term.

I was wondering what the process would be to eventually become an instructor.

Like how long should I practice yoga as an individual before I pursue getting instructor certification?

What are the best programs to become certified?

What is it like being a yoga instructor? (As far as schedule, pay etc.)

I know there's different types of yoga, which should I focus on learning? Which are the most popular?

Any advice or anecdotes from instructors or long term yogis is appreciated :). Thanks!

    Bent Legs During Fifer Scissors

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 07:09 PM PDT

Hey all. I struggle getting my legs straight while doing Fifer Scissors. I don't think that's strictly a yoga move, but any tips or even other moves that could be suggested to me to improve my weak spot would mean the world to me.

Leaving my yoga studio OR what is the value of a yoga studio anyway?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 05:47 PM PDT

I've been practicing for about two years, mostly at a local independent studio that I really liked. Since the shutdown in March, I've been happy to keep paying a monthly fee for unlimited classes (now online only), but have decided to stop after this month am a bit sad about it.

Why leave? I guess I realized that there isn't enough value there. I really like a number of the instructors but they have cut back on classes and instructors to save costs. Also, almost every class is "Mixed Level Flow" which was fine when I was starting out in yoga. They never have workshops on, say, inversions or balancing (I get why teaching inversions online might be scary, but they could come up with some other workshop).

I don't think they've adapted well enough to the online world. The quality of the Zoom streams is only adequate (nothing compared to some yoga apps out there). The instructors almost never offer verbal adjustments online. And they don't offer on-demand classes, only live streams.

Finally, there isn't a strong enough sense of community. I have a good rapport with a number of the teachers, but I don't know the other students and the community sense is lacking. Without community, a yoga studio is just a bundler of classes, similar to how cable TV is (or was) a bundler of TV channels most of which no one watched in the first place.

I'm sad to be leaving but also excited to continue growing my practice by taking online classes directly from some instructors and some online apps. I hope all of you are doing well during these difficult times.

    Wheel pose - tips

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 01:45 PM PDT

I'd love to hear from my fellow yogis on how you manage to get into Wheel. I can get as far as the crown of my head onto the floor from bridge but for some reason I can't get my arms straight. What am I missing? I have good upper body strength. I can hold crow and other arm balance poses but Wheel eludes me. Any help would be really great.

Crow is intolerably painful on the back of my arms. Am I doing something wrong?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:14 PM PDT

I've done yoga on and off for about half my life but have never comfortably done crow. Putting my shins/knees on my arms hurts too much. Other poses that require putting weight on other body parts hurts too, but crow is the worst. What am I missing?

    Sit-and-reach Test progress

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 02:47 PM PDT

I've been stretching in ways to prove my results on a "sit-and-reach" box. I took a few days off and now I'm a whopping 2.5 inches worse than I was beforehand.

Is there any reason I'm so tight after these couple of days? That seems Iike a lot of progress to lose. Thanks

    Yoga and Eating Disorder Recovery

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 02:47 PM PDT

TW: This post mentions ED, but it focuses on recovery!

I am recovering from an eating disorder and my biggest component of it was over exercise. I would exercise as a way of self control. I have gone through treatment and am fully recovered, but the biggest obstacle for me is still working out. I almost have a fear of it. I have recently started doing yoga (about 3 weeks ago) and I love how it makes me feel connected to my body. I'm no longer ignoring my needs, I'm embracing them.

Is there anyone else here who has dealt with similar struggles and would be willing to talk to me or give me resources that best reflect the body-loving mentality of yoga? I'm willing to read books, watch videos, etc. I would like to find some sort of community or feel a belonging with others who also fight back against those ED thoughts.

    Hot yoga safe during Covid?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 01:39 PM PDT

The studio said that they are practicing social distancing (mats 6 feet apart), but I am still concerned about the risks of being in a hot confined room where people are breathing deeply. Has anyone been to hot yoga since covid restrictions have been slowly loosening?

Any other yogis & yoginis experience this? When I sit on my ischial tuberosity the way society has trained us tonsit in chairs & onbfloors, it instantly drains my energy & I'm fatigued & uncomfortable & grumpy.

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 01:03 PM PDT

As soon as I can get into garland pose / yogic squat / malasana which is most natural & comfy way for me to "sit," everything feels so much better.

(Yoga is an intrinsic part of my life, I live & breathe it physically mentally & spiritually. )

Does anyone else out there feel this way? Instinctively physically & emotionally & spiritually draining to smash the 1st chakra?

Tips for Achieving Hands Flat on Floor in Forward Fold?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 07:35 AM PDT

Hi, I have been practicing for about 2 months now and have been amazed with how good I feel and how much more flexible I've become.

Having reached a point where I can easily touch the floor with my fingertips in forward fold I was wondering what strategies there might be towards building to putting my hands flat on the ground while folded.

Obviously I will continue attempting to deepen my fold in daily practice but are there additional hamstring or body stretches that can expedite my progress? Thanks!

Good beginners yoga for improving posture, neck pain

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 10:50 PM PDT

I have terrible posture and am considering yoga to try to help with it before it gets even worse. I have periods of really bad neck pain in particular and hunch over a lot. Any tips or links to videos would be greatly appreciated.
