Ashtanga yoga: I filmed (and instantly hated) this to check what was wrong with my chaturunga (everything?) And I thought I'd ask if anyone has any other pointers?

    Balance of meditation and yoga

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 02:21 AM PDT

Hi there, I started practising sitting meditation about 3 years ago, 20min in the morning then 20mins at night. I was inspired by the book called Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Mark Williams and Danny Penman. Since starting yoga 18 months ago, my meditation practice has suffered, to be honest. Even though Ashtanga is a moving meditation which focuses on the breath, I find it is a bit different to just sitting quietly and following an unregulated breath for 20 mins. Generally what I think I have experienced is that (with overlaps) yoga helps me feel emotionally better (happy and well) and physically satiated. In contrast, meditation helps me more mentally (calm, clear, less turbulent and less anxious). I am starting to miss regular meditation and feel that the stresses of life are catching up with me. Some people at my yoga centre arrive early and meditate before class. Some meditate after class rather than savasana. For a while, I thought yoga could be a replacement for meditation, however I feel like I need both. Just wondering if others have experienced this and what you may have eventually settled on?
