- This was really eye opening for me. Insecurity and confidence comes from the body's reaction to identifying as thoughts. And that identifying as a thought whether positive or negative, causes fear which is social anxiety.
- Breathing in, breathing out, think of the oxygen, where it goes, what it does, where it comes from. If you must think, then think of the plants!

| I have been an addict my whole life...but didn't know what I was addicted to Posted: 15 Oct 2020 05:34 PM PDT One day, around the time I was 13, I noticed how much girls attracted me. I noticed how when talking to them, they made me feel whole. So I started to date them. I got hooked on how they made me feel. Until one day, one girl didn't make me feel that way. I didn't understand why this one felt different, but then other girls started feeling different too. One day, around the time I was 16, I noticed how much weed enticed me. I liked the way it made me feel, until just like the girls, they didnt make me feel that way anymore. So I moved on again. Then one day, around the time I was 17, I noticed how much ecstacy enticed me. I liked the way it made me feel, until....just like the girls and weed, they didnt make me feel that way anymore. So I moved on again. Another day I noticed how much music enticed me. Then I mixed it with the weed, girls, and ecstasy and WOW. But just like all the others, eventually this mix stopped bringing me the feeling I had become addicted to. Then one day: painting, yoga, stretching, cocaine, ketamine, DMT, LSD, PCP, football, basketball, baseball, dancing, partying, studying, learning, improving myself, loving others. I noticed how all these different things brought me the same feeling. The feeling has always been contentment. Being IMMERSED in the present moment. Its what I have been addicted to. Its not something you can buy. Its a state of mind. You find it when you look inside. Do the things that make you happy, but realize that happiness is from inside of you. Learn to cultivate that happiness so you aren't hunting down coke dealers before you graduate high school. But don't forget to have fun...safely. Love, Sincerity Amigo [link] [comments] |
| The power of telling yourself "I love you, I am listening." Posted: 15 Oct 2020 10:32 PM PDT I've been going through a really rough time and have been unable to get my mind to stop thinking. Today, I decided to try a different kind of meditation. I sat there, placed my hand on my heart and repeated out loud "I love you and I am listening". My mind immediately stopped going a mile a minute and allowed me to actual feel the emotions I've been needing to process. It has been such a release and much needed. Sometimes we just need to tell our bodies, our souls, that we indeed are listening. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 Oct 2020 05:37 AM PDT I understand there is people who do both or subscribe to various ideas... However, i am wondering if this sub is OK with promoting and condoning "crystal healing", "bioenegry", "astral projection", and similar things. Coming from a scientific background I appreciate meditation a lot, but I must say people talking about "charging" quartz crystals with their own energy takes me aback quite a bit (yeah you are not doing anything to the crystal, btw, sorry). I do not see that as something related to meditation at all, even though I know that community (or those communities) embrace meditation as well. I am concerned this is looking more and more than a generic new age sub and the discussion about meditation practice is getting watered down by the "should I meditate high on X" and "should I meditate with quartz or with calcite" posts. | I never thought I’d be into meditation, but I just cried during my first session and I feel great Posted: 15 Oct 2020 03:40 PM PDT So I'm not sure this is the type of thing people post here, but I just had one of the greatest cathartic experiences of my life. My therapist/counselor (idk the difference still) told me to download Calm and at first I said okay I'll try it, but I knew that wasn't my thing. I used to tease my sisters about this type of stuff, and I guess in my head I already made up my mind and not want to like meditation. So I opened Calm and started using the free trial, and immediately I liked the soothing sounds and UI. I flipped through the tabs and I loved the diversity of soundscapes and themes you can pick from. Then I finally listed to the Daily Calm about santosha and... I started to shed tears in the middle of it. No sniffling or exasperated breaths, just a stream of tears. I'm not sure whether that was supposed to happen, but I loved it and I feel so relaxed than ever before. I don't know why I'm posting this here, I just needed to tell someone while I'm in bliss. | Does chakra meditation make anyone else cry? Posted: 15 Oct 2020 11:44 PM PDT I've done guided chakra meditations a few times and it always seems to bring tears to my eyes. The first time I was exposed to meditation I participated in a group guided meditation for chakra opening. By the time I got to my crown chakra, I felt a profound sense of release and at the end when I opened my eyes, a bunch of tears fell from my eyes even though it didn't feel like I had been crying. Tonight I did a guided chakra meditation on YouTube and when I got up to my heart chakra, I felt like I wanted to sob. I felt the big swell you get in your chest when you're really crying hard and tears started to fall even though there was nothing in particular on my mind to cry about. When I got to my crown chakra there was a pretty steady flow of tears there and it felt good. I've dabbled with a few different types of meditation but wow chakra opening is probably one of the most intense I've experienced! [link] [comments] |

| Should i meditate before or after eating? Posted: 16 Oct 2020 02:04 AM PDT I usually do it before eating, but sometimes i when im fasting, i have trouble concentrating. And sometimes after i eat, im too full and no longer feel motivated to meditated. [link] [comments] |
| An important point about chakras and "energy" to the larger meditation community. Posted: 15 Oct 2020 11:10 AM PDT Someone just posted a question about new age style beliefs and their relevance to more scientifically minded meditation practitioners. I wrote this out in reply to them but I think it needs a little more visibility. Okay so while I can't really say anything about the crystals but there is something important to about with the chakras and "energy" in regards to the wider meditation community. While the idea of chakras and "energy work" has been exoticized and commercialized in the west to the point where it is hard to tell what is an authentic practice and what is new age mysticism, understand that there are real psychological and material changes happening to the mind-body system when you go deep enough into Indian, Chinese, and Tibetan energy work systems. The word "energy" happens to be the translation for the terms used in these systems, and there are reasons for this translation choice, but understand that this is simply a linguistic choice and using "energy" as a commonly accepted terminology doesnt necessarily mean that specific western concepts like electricity or kinesthetic energy have a 1 to 1 correlation with the topics discussed in chakra based yoga or qigong. But regardless of the use of the term energy, western mystical/commercial interpretations, or anyones belief in the spiritual implications of these practices, there are specific psychological, mechanical and objectively observable material results of these practices. Understand that what we call "meditation" in the west refers to a handful of specific practices that exist in a larger context of praxis. While these practices are generally speaking pretty safe, there are actual mistakes that can happen with incorrect practices, and so it is important to listen and take seriously peoples descriptions of their experiences in order to give them the best advice. Sometimes these issues are what the west would call psychological, and we have plenty of tools to deal with it. For example, occasionally a person with a deeper emotional issue develops meditative awareness of the issue but doesnt have any tools in their arsenal to deal with the issue and so simply becomes acutely aware of their own discomfort. That person should probably see a psychologist, who is perfectly capable of assisting that person. Sometimes however these issues are much more physical, and also might require specialized diagnoses and treatment from a more experienced practitioner. For example specific incorrect practices can cause visible and objectively observable prolonged muscle spasms due to a mechanical excitement of the nervous system, and a western doctor with no real experience with the system you're practicing is simply not going to be able to help you correct the root of the problem in the way that a trained practitioner of the system can. Remember, physical symptoms may just be one manifestation of a larger issue, so in the scenario above a doctor giving you a nerve relaxing medicine might simply be masking an underlying problem that's also causing harder to immediately see negative effects. Recognizing this isn't saying "western medicine is bad" or anything, just the acknowledgement that as much as the medical scientific community knows about the human body, some specific practices are currently outside the scope of that body of knowledge and requires an experienced practitioner in that system. One of the most difficult things to talk about in any meditative system is the difference between a "purely" mental experience and a somatic experience. Yes technically everything happens in the mind, and yes oftentimes mental and somatic effects happen simultaneously, and I would argue mental and somatic exist on one large continuum. I'd also argue that most meditation systems try and train you to tell the difference as best as possible. But understand that when people go on a meditation forum and talk about some sort of "more physical energy experience," (not all but) some amount of these people are beyond just imagined "effects" and are reporting on actual material changes happening in their body. (Most commonly, you see people reporting on strange "things" moving up the spine, as that's one of the first major tangible changes that can be stumbled across in practice). Understand that these effects are mechanical and can happen to people who dont necessarily believe in some sort of energy or spirit, and so when discussing advice it is important to recognize that there's more than "new age wishy washy" stuff going on. The more advanced material is relatively new to the west and still mostly contained within smaller subcultures, and so naturally it will take time for these practices to be fully understood by the scientific community. This doesn't mean go crazy and take every single thing you hear about energy work systems as gospel of course, but understand there are effects that are happening and experts in this work whose advice should be heeded. | Posted: 16 Oct 2020 01:07 AM PDT Walk and chew gum at the same time. Think while you remain focused on your breathing. I've meditated for nearly fifty years, and this was not easy to learn. Sometimes my mind follows the air as I breathe it in, through the nose passages and down into my lungs. The oxygen transfers to the blood cells and is transported to all the billions of cells in my body. It is the source of their energy! The spent air is pumped back to the lungs, and carbon dioxide goes out with every exhale. Breathe in, breathe out, in and out, in and out. Sometimes, while I remain focused on my breathing, my mind remembers the many things we have learned from plants. The mystery of how they defy gravity has been solved! They take in water through their roots and transport it with nutrients up, up into the plant to all the billions of cells in their leaves. And all that so the plants can do what they do best, well, for us anyway. They produce oxygen, the air we breathe. So think of the plants, especially the algae in the oceans, which produce the vast majority of the air we breathe in, breathe out, in and out, in and out. We can go without food for some weeks; Mahatma Gandhi sometimes fasted for long periods... and survived! We can go without water for a few days. How long do we last without air? Not long. Count it out in seconds. So then think of the plants, because without them we couldn't even breathe... we would have a very difficult time meditating then, don't you think? Feel empowered by the air you breathe in, breathe out, in and out, in and out. [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 15 Oct 2020 05:26 PM PDT Mindfulness has changed my life and has allowed me to acknowledge and accept my emotions. It has helped me a lot when I feel sad or angry because I know the feeling will eventually go away so it is not so scary for me to sit with the feeling and accept it. Understanding happiness is no exception made me a little sad to think about but also reminded me to stay present and appreciate it so much more! [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 15 Oct 2020 09:40 PM PDT https://exploringyourmind.com/what-five-minutes-of-silence-can-do-for-your-brain-2/ Article talks about how just 5 minutes of silence changes the way your brain operates and does wonders for your health. Almost always we spend our time obsessed by going deeper yet the truth is that just turning up for 5 minutes, perhaps only once a day, gives you the lions share of meditation benefits. Still, within that I just wonder about the quality of those 5 minutes- just how settled and centered can I get? Typical.... [link] [comments] |
| Do you meditate for spiritual development? Posted: 15 Oct 2020 02:40 PM PDT Hello everybody! I've started taking my meditation journey seriously with daily mindfulness practice. My question is about development. What else can I expect as I gain experience other than the ability to mediate for longer periods? The reason I am meditating is for spiritual development. I want to access answers from deep within, connect with Universal energy and fill myself with positivity... rather than just to clear my mind! Can this happen? Is there anything you could recommend to set me on this path? Is there a type of meditation I should be exploring? I know there are guided meditations out there to contact spirit guides but that freaks me out because of past negative experiences. Thank you!!! <3 <3 [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 Oct 2020 08:53 PM PDT I meditate with no expectations coming in, I am able to focus really well but around 3-5 minutes I start getting a headeche and my mind is like "quit, quit, quit!!" What should I do? [link] [comments] |
| In all honesity. do you think me meditation/mindfulness is OVERHYPED ? Posted: 15 Oct 2020 06:17 PM PDT Sincere answer please. Dont get me wrong guys. Im not anti of this habit. I just ask an answer from your human experience. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 Oct 2020 05:36 PM PDT Not new to meditating but trying to get into it regularly. I find it much easier to meditate when lying on the floor, couch, or bed- and can only focus on guided meditations, like yoga nidra or self hypnosis. Some days I am too "up" and just can't get into it, but I try for five minutes and give up. Other days, I can really commit to it, but after about 10 minutes of deep relaxation, my mind starts to wander, and then I fall asleep! It's sort of frustrating, like I can relax but I don't have the focus bit down YET. Any tips? [link] [comments] |

| Beautiful small waterfall | Nature's Best White Noise For Relaxation &... Posted: 15 Oct 2020 08:58 PM PDT Hello all of you ! I wish you a happy new day, full of energy. I built this YouTube channel with the purpose of sharing images and sounds from nature. I realize that the sounds of nature are good for relaxation, concentration for work, study and even for insomnia. On many of my travels, when listening to both small and loud sounds, it was almost a kind of white noise, or ASMR sound. You see you've heard the sound of the rain falling and falling asleep, even when you're in the city, you want to listen to the sounds of the countryside, remind you of your memories and your childhood. Through, or simply relax, meditate you also need a space close to nature. Because of that, I will make more efforts to share more of the better quality videos. Please support me ...
