    Pranayama: The four results

    Pranayama: The four results

    The four results

There are four purposes and/or results of breathing exercises/pranayama:

    1. To harmonize and balance the two aspects of the autonomic nervous system so that the 4Fs system (flight, fight, fawn, and freeze) is not dominate over the 'rest and digest' (parasympathetic) system. This takes sufficient practice so that the person's entire system is no longer driven primarily by the 4F's system but rather by the parasympathetic system. This reduces anxiety and other diseases of chronic 4F system dominance.

    1. To harmonize the breathing to the heart beat in order to get heart rate coherence. This seems to be very health building. I ask my readers, does this feel amazingly wonderful or did I get that feeling from something else.

    1. The slower the mind and the thinking the saner and closer to God a person is. Very long breaths slow down the mind. As far as I can see, this aspect of breathing exercises is understood in pranayama, but not so much among the breathing exercise folks.

    1. Alternate nostril breathing can clear up a lot of nose problems and help coordinate between the left brain and the right brain and help with intuition.

Please, I am sure that I have missed a lot. Help me in the comments by adding to this list or adding any other constructive thoughts that you might have.
