Posted: 20 Oct 2020 02:08 PM PDT Hi all! I am looking to start doing yoga at home maybe 2-3 a week. However, I'd like to follow a plan where I can progress instead of just doing random videos every time. I dont mind paying for the right course. I did about 20 days of the 30 days yoga with Adrienne but I found it too easy and a bit boring, I am looking for something a bit more challenging that I can see myself progressing over time. I am not an expert by any means, my experience with yoga is just random classes on classpass with no structure whatsoever. Im basically a newbie but I'm fairly flexible and in shape. Goals are flexibility and strength. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Oct 2020 05:02 PM PDT I found this video and am wondering if this is actually a kind of yoga practice or just a more dance-y thing. If it's yoga, what's the kind? Where can I learn this? [link] [comments]
| Posted: 20 Oct 2020 07:59 PM PDT Hello all! I'm not exactly new to yoga (on and off for 2+ years and currently averaging practices 2x a week) but I have a few questions that perhaps some of you can help me with so I have a better understanding of how to improve.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to read or answer my questions - its a lot and all over the place! These have been major concerns in the back of my mind that I've been wondering. [link] [comments] |
How to avoid hurting your back as a beginner Posted: 20 Oct 2020 01:02 PM PDT Hi, So I've been doing yoga for a few months. Due to COVID I do it on my own at home through Youtube. I noticed that I get back pain after practices. I am SUPER inflexible, which in many cases causes me to not do the poses right. For example - I can't do a forward fold with my back straight, it bends and I can't avoid it. Same with a sitter forward fold, my back can't be straight and when I reach forward I get back pain. Same with other poses that include my back. How can I avoid this? What in general do you advise very inflexible people? I don't think that doing the poses wrong (they way I am capable of right now) is helping me make a progress. Thanks!! [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 06:37 PM PDT 60 M, former personal trainer, lean and strong. I've been doing yoga at home with on-line beginner videos for 5 years, 2 - 4 times per week. In the beginning I was only able to do about half of the poses and transitions due to being so inflexible. Specifically, hip, hamstring, and quad muscles. I knew I wasn't very flexible, and it was my primary purpose for doing yoga in the first place. I was assured by all that yoga was the answer. My problem is that my flexibility hasn't improved; in fact, I could swear it is getting worse. After all this time, I still cannot sit cross-leg with a straight back. If this is genetic I could be ok with it because it doesn't really limit my life anywhere but yoga. But it just doesn't seem normal for someone to be unable to perform basic yoga poses? Is it possible that yoga might not help with flexibility in some people? If so, do I need to devote myself to some other flexibility work instead? Thanks for your help. BTW, my 2nd most vexing (and seemingly incurable) limitation is the inability to balance on one leg for more than 2 seconds. [link] [comments]

Having problems with yoga after gaining some weight – is it possible? Posted: 20 Oct 2020 12:59 PM PDT Hey. I've put on weight during quarantine which is maybe not terrible (ca. 8 kg) – but visible. I noticed that some asanas started to be more challenging (like sirsasana or marichyasana) but I don't know whether it is because of change in my, to put it nicely, size or whether I should look for reasons somewhere else (maybe tougher time? Lack of concentration? Stress?). What do you think? It's not about the looks but it bothers me that I don't feel comfortable in asanas I used to love. [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 06:24 AM PDT Hello! Found mats with the same dimensions, but made of different material (vegan suede vs. neoprene). Is there a substantial difference between the two? The neoprene one is nearly 75% cheaper. (I live outside of the US, so I'd prefer supporting local brands) [link] [comments]
Power Yoga similar to Travis Elliot? Posted: 20 Oct 2020 05:29 AM PDT Hey all! I'm looking for another youtube yoga teacher that is similar to Travis Elliots sequences. I like the 7 day one he as on youtube but I've gone through it enough that it's repetitive, and I'm not quite ready to sign up for his paid classes. Does anyone have any recommendations? I like the 60 to 90 min sessions. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Getting back into yoga after a month of not doing it Posted: 20 Oct 2020 12:30 AM PDT The past month I have not done yoga. In late September I stopped due to moving and haven't gotten back into it after moving into my new home due to clutter and boxes. Today I finally decided to get back into it. I use Down Dog and did a 30 minute restorative session. It was nice but I noticed tightness in my legs which makes sense. Afterwards I did a 15 minute no warmup session. That sucked. I was out of breath and it hurt more than it used to. I couldn't do a flat footed down dog and warrior two sucked. I was on beginner 2 which I'll keep doing. From what I've learned, I need to do more back strength sessions because I can feel that my back is a lot weaker than my other muscle groups. I will do 30-40 minute restorative sessions every other day to gain flexibility, and do 20 minute or longer full practice sessions for strength. I am kicking myself in the butt and feeling discouraged for laying off of yoga for so long. I kinda feel like I'm back at square one, which isn't the case though. I can still do things I wasn't able to when starting back in April, I'm just really rusty. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Oct 2020 01:49 AM PDT When doing standing forward fold or seated forward fold, and I try to relax my head, it hurts so much in my neck/upper back. What kind of poses could I try to make this easier? I started doing yoga on and of about 6 months ago, but those poses keep being a problem, whereas I notice being more flexible/relaxed in other places. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Oct 2020 07:22 AM PDT Hello! Can anyone recommend a streaming or live online course (happy to pay!) for deep stretch yoga? Pre-Covid I was taking a deep stretch yoga class at a local studio, but they have temporarily stopped offering it. [link] [comments]
Do yoga washes matter for specific mats? Posted: 19 Oct 2020 09:13 PM PDT I've been using Manduka Citrus Mat Wash for awhile now but have used them on non Manduka mats. I contacted Manduka this morning because I was wondering about the shelf life of the mat wash (have had it for 2 years now). They said they weren't sure about the shelf life, but warned me that they're specifically designed for the Prolite and liveON mats. They said their other models were damaged by the mat wash I was using when they were testing them. Is this true? Or is this just a lame marketing scheme to buy Manduka mats? [link] [comments]
