We literally just tilted our head and looked at our batchmates. This took me half a year to achieve.

The "easier" version is from plank to handstands.

    Kunalini yoga

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 08:15 PM PDT

I got a book on kundalini yoga and i have questions.

    I am a 21 y/o 5'11 180lb guy.

First, i really want to someday be able to do the full lotus position, i refuse to beleive its impossible. But half lotus is difficult enough and when i try to see how close i can get to full lotus, lets just say its not very close 😹 im not sure how to go about getting my ankles and knees flexible enough to be able to. What can i do to get closer to being able to?

Secondly, theres so much in this book. Ive barely tried half of the breathing exercises. Its overwhelming thinking about all the poses in there or where to start. Should i just choose a few poses to start out with mastering and then find others or just move through all if them off the bat? The second option seems really overwhelming.

And thirdly, my friends give me credit for having so much self control, i kicked opioids off of willpower a few weeks ago without any medical help or really a single thought of going back, but compared to this i might as well have NONE. Im diagnosed aDHD and while i do better with it than most, Focusing for more than 10 minutes seems impossible still. What poses or techniques can i do to give myself better focus, and motivation? I get lethargic or distracted very very easy

Fourthly, theres poses and exercises ive tried where it says "hold for 1 minute at least" and i can only hold it matbe 20 30 seconds and my bodys shaking all over the whole time. Is this normal and does it usually improve?

Thanks for any help/ encouragement / advice. Namaste 😸

What are your favorite active-ish yin poses

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 05:30 PM PDT

Last year I discovered and fell in love with yin yoga. Jumped at the opportunity to take yin teacher training, then recently got brought on by my studio to teach.

My teachers style leans more passive/restorative like yin, which is wonderful. The two classes I will teach are at 1pm during the week. Therefore, I'm looking to shift towards some active yin energy in my classes.

    Advice? Favorite poses? Thank you.

Vocal box? Cracking when I do Upward Salute?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:27 PM PDT

Am I reaching too far back? Not sure if it's my vocal box but it sounds hollow and it's definitely not the usual arthritic neck noises. Am I going to break something?

Couldn't find the general discussion thread that the sidebar says is stickied.

    Biloxi Yoga

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:52 PM PDT

I am relocating to the Gulf Coast and I was wondering if there are any yoga studios in the area that y'all would recommend. I have been interested in getting into yoga for a while now but didn't for some reason or another. I would like to get into a studio that is male friendly. I'm a 6'4" younger black male and really don't want to invest in a place where I'm gonna be looked at as someone trying to creep on Soccer moms. I'm not. Just want to work on flexibility and mobility after dealing with a back and hip injury for years. Thanks for your insight.

Disclaimer-Sorry if I'm generalizing or if I'm coming off a bit ignorant of the yoga scene and culture. I'm asking to gain understanding.

Your favorite YouTube for Hatha yoga?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 09:56 AM PDT

I'm looking for a slower pace, more stretchiness, but not as slow as yin yoga. I figure Hatha probably hits the mark. Who are your favorite instructors? It doesn't have to be "free" or on YouTube specifically. Thanks!

Thinking about doing a one month 200 hr YTT with the Kula Collective in Mexico. Does anyone have experience with this company or thoughts on retreat style YTTs (vs. doing it locally over a longer period) in general? Thanks!

Missed one week of yoga due to laziness and burnt out... Will it be hard to get back into?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 07:52 AM PDT

    Hey all,

I managed to get up to 4 hours a day but I feel like I burnt myself out... Now I don't want to do it, I haven't done it in 1 week and feel really bad but I must do it again.

I'm going to go up to 2 hours again but will it be hard to get back into?

Standing balances - why do they frustrate me so much??

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:40 AM PDT

Hi all, my first post on this sub so be kind ;D

I've had a regular practice for a year now - classes usually 3 times a week and a bit of home practice too. I'm a 47-year-old woman who has never looked after herself or done any form of exercise before finding yoga so I'm comfortable with the fact that my chaturanga is a bellyflop, I can't step my foot through from down dog, etc - I know that practice is the thing and it will probably come good in the end, no big deal. For the most part I'm just enjoying the journey.

But...standing balances! I've just finished a class where I literally could not stay steady on one leg for even a few seconds and it made me actually feel ANGRY. Like a stroppy child! I almost considered walking out of the class because I just.could.not.do.it. and I felt so frustrated with myself. I spoiled my own enjoyment of the rest of the class because I just had this sense of 'rrragh, why can't I stand on one leg???!!1!111'

Is this...normal? Like I say, I'm pretty happy with my progress in most other areas of yoga, I tend to take it on the chin if I can't reach an asana that day and just modify or whatever. But I had such a strong reaction to my inability to reach bloody dancer's and vrikshasana today and I don't know why.

Anyone else ever felt like this? And how can I keep a lid on this frustration next time?

    Fully body stretch sequence??

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 04:56 AM PDT

Hello. I started yoga before but am unable to attend lessons now. Can anyone recommend a sequence I can do at any time of day that is for stress relief and is also a full body flexibility routine? Like "The Only Yoga Sequence You Will Ever Need!" kind of thing? Thanks!

Recommendations for yoga following rotator cuff injury?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 12:50 AM PDT

Before I got hurt I was doing Ashtanga yoga 4-6 days a week and was finally working my way through the full primary series. Seven months ago I woke up and couldn't lift my arm. After X-ray and mri my diagnosis was rotator cuff impingement, tendonosis , and osteo arthritis of the shoulder. I've been doing physical therapy for 7 months and still can't hold downward dog, move through chataranga or really stand any weight bearing. I can't hold my arm up in trikonasana or get my hands behind my back for any posture. I've been modifying my ashtanga practice cutting it down further and further until in frustration I gave up. And this makes me incredibly sad. This month I get my first ortho appointment to evaluate for surgery and I'm scared but hopeful I might be able to move back to my regular practice one day. In the meantime, is anyone aware of lead classes available online for people with disabilities or limitations that they would recommend.

    Breathing Methods

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:29 AM PDT

I have a back pain that arrives and goes time to time. Is there any pranamaya or any sort of thing so that it can get healed? I cannot forward bend easily; the pain doesnt radiate to legs or so, but remains in the lowerback and hip region only, I think its a muscle wear and tear problem. How long does it take to heal?
