| SO GLAD I DIDNT SKIP YOGA TODAY. Posted: 26 Nov 2020 04:32 PM PST Disclaimer, I am of course a newbie. I finished Adriene's 30 day challenge some days ago and I started another one of her calendars today. I was feeling lazy and not in the mood for starting a whole new challenge tonight but somehow I got my ass up and dragged myself to the mat. AND I'M SO GLAD I DID. From day 1 I've been aiming towards the crow pose as my first big goal, and I've been trying it for several weeks with no success (my core and arms are very weak). But today idk where I got the strength and I finally did it and held it for 5 full seconds!! That's such a big step for me!!!!! I can of course improve my pose (mainly my legs on my arms) and 5 secs isn't that long, but I thought it'd take me YEARS to even get to this point, so I'm fucking HYPED! I've been grinning like mad since then. [link] [comments] |
| Feeling good about my body for the first time ever Posted: 26 Nov 2020 02:29 AM PST I've always struggled with self esteem after being the chubby kid/teenager. After college I lost a lot of weight due to some unhealthy lifestyle choices which I thought were good at the time however it led me to be 120 pounds with NO muscle whatsoever. I was happy with the way I fit into smaller dress sizes but still felt so unhappy with my body because I had no tone at all. I've just completed 30 days of yoga with Adrianne and my god! I have biceps! My stomach is toned, my butt is lifted! I feel stronger not only in my body but in my mental wellbeing. I've always HATED exercise but feel as though each session is more of a therapy session and woke up this morning feeling so happy with myself, proud of myself and so much stronger. I think I've become a yogi and I love it. Keep on chugging! [link] [comments] |

| It's the little things that matter, they say.. Posted: 26 Nov 2020 01:41 AM PST Hey everyone! I'm kinda new here, and after nearly a year off the matt , I'm back on it! I saw all your beautiful handstands and poses, successful or not, you guys are amazing. I just finished my first week of adriene's home practice, today on day 8 (heal). As you probably know, it's a very chill session with lots of blankies and self hugs and breathing. As I layed there, hugging myself tight and listening to adriene I just busted out in tears and could not stop crying or letting go.I felt like the first time in my life that I really realized that I deserve to be loved by others as well as by myself. A really uninteresting post, hopefully not against any rules, just needed to share this with someone. I felt the need to say thank you, kind strangers. The motivation I needed, I found in a wholesome reddit sub. [link] [comments] |
| How important is it to have a specific type of yoga? Posted: 26 Nov 2020 05:26 PM PST I find myself in a strange situation where I think I might need a more custom yoga "routine". If that makes sense? Because I'm disabled with mental health, GAD/PTSD, I currently am choosing to be inside more for now. So I would want a yoga to replace that lack of daily movement. But one of my medications leaves me feeling like not moving very much. So if it's too physical I'm thinking I would be more likely to excuse myself from doing it. Or am I over thinking it? | Posted: 26 Nov 2020 11:58 AM PST Hi /r/yoga! A few weeks ago I had a yoga experience, and I wanted to share it here. I posted earlier about it, but only got to make a video today. Tea opened up my nose, I focused on my nose and breathing, and felt very good. Please, share you yoga experience! It would be great if we could discuss some specifics and learn more, and build a better understanding of what happens in a situation like this! Thank you! Kovkev [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 26 Nov 2020 07:55 AM PST Last night, I followed my usual bedtime routine; nothing out of the ordinary. I struggled to fall asleep as easy as I usually do and ended up waking up several times - my body was knakckered but my brain was restless. Today has been a difficult day emotionally too. Yesterday early evening, I did an hour's yoga session focussing mainly on the hips/glutes, opening up everything. My yogi mentioned afterwards that you store alot of emotion in the hips, the svadhisthana after a quick Google search (I'm relatively new to yoga). I'm curious as to whether this is all related and if anyone has any decent resources about how to help all the other chakras in my body. I'm not hugely knowledgeable in this area so any advice would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
| Any more info on dand-baihtak as yoga practice? Posted: 26 Nov 2020 11:10 AM PST dand baithak(hindu pushups and squat)is used by folk wrestlers in India but i understand its a copy-paste mix of the surya namaskar yoga system. I read the book"the wreslter's body";but I want to learn about the yoga rather than fitness POV on surya namaskar. What are the spiritual benefits?can it be used as meditation practice? | Low back soreness/pain from backbending Posted: 26 Nov 2020 08:27 AM PST I've been doing a lot more backbending recently, specifically trying to work on forearm scorpion. For a week I was feeling a little bit of a twinge on my lower back but didn't think much of it. But now today my back is so sore I can barely even do a gentle standing arch without feeling uncomfortable. It's not the normal sensation I get when stretching my back but it's not a sharp pain either. I have very tight hip flexors and my chest isn't super flexible either so I think I've inadvertently been dumping all the load into my lumbar spine.I'm definitely going to stop backbending for a while because even just sitting typing this I can feel the soreness without even moving anything. Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I pause all exercise and rest completely (hard though)? Or should I try to just focus on back strengthening poses? Thanks for any advice. | How much "pain" in knees is acceptable in padmasana? Posted: 26 Nov 2020 02:16 AM PST I can quite easily get into padmasana. I have to use my hands on the second foot though. I used to do this pose as a child, but that's many years ago. I'm 30 now. I've read that it's killer on the knees, and have started to panick a little about it. Is it okay to feel slight discomfort in the knees, or should you ONLY do it if you feel nothing at all? [link] [comments] |
