I have a hard time getting back on the mat after taking a break, help! Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:16 PM PST Hey yoga friends. During COVID I've had stretches where I can't seem to get myself to practice. Even though I know I'll enjoy it once I do it, I just can't get started. I normally practice at home using a video. Let me know if you've experienced this and have advice! Thank you!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:58 PM PST Title is pretty broad, but I am trying to gather a feel for how teachers really get started after receiving their YTT cert. Are there industry standards (registering with Yoga Alliance, getting insurance, setting up a LLC, etc) that need to be done prior to trying to get hired? What does the hiring process look like at different studios (internship vs audition?). How many people have gone straight to building their own studio? Contuning education right after 200 hour or get experience teaching first? Any experiences in how to get started after graduating a 200 hour program would be appreciated! [link] [comments]

Should I try a different studio? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:22 PM PST I am brand new to yoga, I have my fifth class tomorrow. I was a member of a MMA club and did TKD and competitive Brazilian jiu jitsu. I am about to start a major life and career change and decided to pause martial arts in order to fully recover from injuries before my next steps. My coach recommended trying yoga, I looked for a local studios and found one close by with good reviews and a competitively priced trial month. It is a hot yoga studio, formally bikram yoga, that has multiple classes a day and yin yoga a couple times a week with three instructors (two for bikram and one for yin). When I signed up I asked if there was a beginners class, the instructor who signed me up told me to just follow along. I am able to keep up okay but feel like I am not keeping form. During one pose in the beginning I tried to ask a question, the instructor scowled at me and the other participants taking the class laughed. I think we got off on the wrong foot and I'm not sure how to fix it. After the class I apologized for interrupting and reiterated that I have never taken a yoga class before and am unfamiliar with the etiquette and terminology. I try to ask questions after class but she mostly ignores me or tells me to watch the other students. I had a better experience with the second instructor but she does afternoons when I am working. If I want to take 6+ classes a week I will need to be with the first instructor most of the time. It also probably depends place to place but there does not seem to be a community among the members. After class everyone just peaces out. Every gym I have been to people would hang out or at least acknowledge one another after class or in the locker rooms. There are other yoga studios nearby but I have already payed for the month and cannot afford two different memberships. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 01:27 PM PST Hi! I very recently heard about Buti Yoga and tried a free beginner class that the founder taught. I really loved it but am hesitant in purchasing any of the downloads or classes because in the beginner class I took, we didn't do the same moves on both sides (we'd only do a movement or pose on one side and skip doing it on the other side). So my question is for anyone who practices Buti Yoga, is this normal? Is it okay to not do the other side and not become 'unbalanced'?? That's my main concern honestly but also wanted to ask if anybody who practices Buti Yoga if your mobility/strength has increased? At this point, I don't have enough strength to do a tricep pushup but do you think doing Buti Yoga regularly would help get me there? Thanks so much!! [link] [comments]
| Do I need to be more flexible in the quads or is this a strength issue? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 03:04 PM PST Anytime I do bridge pose or twisted lizard with the foot grab, I have mild pain over the top of my knees. I'm fairly new to doing yoga regularly, and I'm wondering if this is just something that might get better if my quads are flexible or if there is something else I can be doing to strengthen/work on this to make it more comfortable. | On feeling like I NEED to do yoga. Can someone share their insight? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 10:54 PM PDT I have realized that I am afraid if I stop doing yoga I wont be healthy anymore. I wont be flexible or strong and that would make me unhappy. I have found that I have attached my happiness towards practicing yoga, that I have been doing yoga partly out of fear of becoming unhealthy and therefore unhappy. That I am partly doing yoga because I feel the need to and not wholly to experience union with my mind and body. So now I am conflicted on what to do next, should I stop my practice for a while and explore my fears? Should I keep going? Has anyone else experience something like this? If so I would love to hear your insight. Thank you and namaste. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:26 AM PST I had a random emergency Laparotomy 3 weeks ago, now feeling a little stronger and looking for ways to get back into yoga without using too much core. Have googled and YouTube and haven't found anything I'm comfortable trusting. Could any fine people recommend poses or sources to ease me back in? Greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]

Teaching classes 1x/week for fun- advice? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 08:25 PM PDT Hi fellow yogis! I've been thinking for a long time about doing teacher training with the intention of teaching more for fun here and there. Most articles or advice online seems to be aimed at those who want to do yoga teaching as a career, but I really just would love to be more active in the yoga community and have a class maybe once a week somewhere or be a sub. Anyone do this? How hard was it to get a regularly scheduled class? I figure just having the one class is probably not too taxing, but I realize there may be more to this. Don't want to waste the money on teacher training if doing this as a way to enrich my life isn't realistic Thanks all! [link] [comments]
Anyone from the Cincinnati area? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 10:07 PM PDT Hello, I'm looking to get into yoga and was wondering if anyone is from the Cincinnati Ohio area and could recommend anyone. I would prefer a one on one. Thank you [link] [comments]
