Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.
    • We are not medical professionals. If something hurts and it doesn't go away within a week's rest, see one!

    Enjoy!

    Back flexibility and weight??

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 07:54 PM PST

Is it harder to do stretches that involve back flexibility if you're on the heavier side? Like a needle, bridge and things like that? Does your back fat come in the way??

Is it normal to feel a slight pain when stretching your back?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 09:40 AM PST

I've had a minor compression in my lower back for almost 6 months now so I kinda got used to feeling an abnormal pain when stretching my back. But now that I have been recovering and slowly getting back into bridges and stuff, I've been wondering if normal healthy people like some of you feel a slight pain (in your muscles not bones) when stretching ur back (and if that's normal), or do you just feel a "uncomfortable stretch" when getting in or out of your bridges/whatever back stretches you do.

Tight in upper back, forearms and posterior delts.

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 03:16 PM PST

Last year i've had problems with all listed above. And it has had a huge impact on my gym training. Just so you know how bad the tightness is, it prevents me from doing lat pulldowns and rows without aching in my forarms, i have inflammation in my breast area because of the back tightness. I have bad mobility in my shoulders, and very tight collar bones. The weird part is that i'm the only one in my friend group who has this problem. And we have been doing the gym routine for more than a year! Yesterday it struck me, a massage i got in greece on vacation the summer 2019. I think my problems started coming after it, i just put a second thought to it. I was tight back then, but not close to how bad as now. And i asked them to massage really hard. I dont think they had any education. She drilled her elbows hard and deep into my back musculature, along my spine. It hurt, but i thought it had to hurt to help my tightness, and i didnt want to tell her to do lighter after i told her to do the opposite. I was really sore the day after. And what i realized now is, where i got massaged, is where im the tightest right now. She must've destroyed my muscles beyond recovery? While she didnt massage my forearms, i think the tightness there is a direct consequence of the tightness in the back and shoulders.

I've started to stretch daily now, because the pain during my workouts has become unbearable. What do you guys think? Also, am i on the wrong subreddit for this? Please let me know!

When I do hip opening stretches, like puhelin pose or cow pose, I get a restless leg syndrome feeling on my legs and feet. I get restless leg syndrome during nights too, but when I stretch it's even more intense. Any ideas why?
