    Catching up and being self-compassionate

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 07:08 AM PST

One of my "resolutions" of sorts for 2021 was to do some yoga every. single. day. starting with Adriene's "Breath". This week I was on my period and was doing a 2-day workshop, and then an air-vent fire left us all standing outside in the cold for an hour at 5 am... So for three full days I didn't make time for yoga. Today, I got back on the mat and practiced "Flow". I'm about to journal too. Before this in my "previous self" if I had missed one or two days, I would quit altogether. Not this time buddy. I showed up for myself today and restarted the cycle. I am already benefitting so much from that 20-min practice this morning. And I am going to show up tomorrow morning. I just wanted to write to anyone who has fallen off the track and is hating on themselves for it - just show up one more time. And then another time. And then you're back and you'll thank yourself for it. We're not hating on ourselves anymore. We're showing up with self-compassion. Love to y'all. Practice and all is coming.

    Anyone experienced in vaasi yoga?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 06:22 PM PST

I recently came across this kind of yoga in YouTube. The guy said that we can pull in universal energy directly through this practice.

So does anyone know how to do it or can point me to resources from which I can learn it?

Having a difficult time with a certain pose; any advice? (link inside)

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 04:53 PM PST

    https://youtu.be/Mh6dTUg462Q?t=1169

This is the yin routine I've been doing in the evenings for about a week (messed with yoga in the past but really started to take it seriously this year). I wouldn't call myself flexible, and normally I wouldn't worry about it, but I don't know that I'm getting the correct stretch in this pose (It's timestamped). It seems like she centers her knees in the middle of her body, and I don't know if it's my large belly, lack of flexibility or what because it seems like I can't get my knees anywhere near what she is showing. Any advice?

I think trauma is affecting my practice

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 04:49 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I started doing yoga consistently only a couple of months ago. In December, I took a trip with some "new friends"(COVID safe) who I didn't really know a lot about and it ended up being a disaster for me. I desperately wanted to get back home...

When I eventually got home, I started having nightmares about the trip (plane supposed to take me home crashing, flights getting cancelled, taxi driver getting lost trying to find me so I missed my flight etc). I still can't look at pictures from the trip.

Thing is it's been so hard to continue my practice now. I have been fairly consistent but when I do, it just doesn't feel relaxing or freeing the way it used to. I feel so heavy and tense and I think it is because of the trip.

Does anyone have any advice or particular flows they would recommend? I would really appreciate anything..

Do you share your yoga mat?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 10:33 AM PST

My sister wanted to try out my new yoga mat, but I refused to let her try it out as I'm a bit of a germaphobe and the idea if putting my hands and head where someone elses feet has been just grossed me out, but she was giving me a ton of flak for it 😧. I was just curious if sharing yoga mats is a thing other people do.

    Itchy head during inversions! Help!‍♀️

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 12:37 PM PST

Help! Recently my scalp becomes unbearably itchy during any inversion, not just a casual itch, but like make you crazy type itchy. I can't even bear a forward fold anymore. I've made sure my scalp is hydrated and moisturized but nothing seems to work. Anyone else have had this problem? My googling has not been helpful. 💆‍♀️

When to go to next level?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 03:14 AM PST

Hi! I've been doing yoga with downdog-app 2-3 times a week for almost a year now. I do the "full practice" and alternate between beginner 2 and intermediate 1, but most of the time I'm on beginner2. My question is: when should I go to a more difficult level? on Intermediate 1 there are always 2-3 poses I cannot do because I'm not flexible enough. But beginner 2 seems a little bit too easy and I would like a challenge and to improve.

What is the general advice here?

    Any at-home yoga video tips?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 10:23 AM PST

Hey all 💕 I've been doing Yoga with Adriene for maybe a year, consistently. Alongside that I've been doing some cardio/hiit exercises on and off. Lately I've noticed that I don't enjoy the more intense workouts like hiit and that I'm leaning much more towards yoga.

Yoga and Adriene, and also some yoga-related books and literature, have helped me grow as a person, and I wish to deepen my practice - but I'm currently fairly limited because of covid. So I'm looking for some more demanding vinyasa flows to start, and I'm curious if you have any suggestions for at-home practices?

How do intentions line up with your chakras?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 09:30 AM PST

I've been enjoying my teachers practice mostly when they have anbintention/mantra set up for class. For example, yesterday we went back to the root Chakra, and the intention was "I am safe and life is good."

How do you create intentions for your practice and what are some of your favorite ones?

Am I over-stretching my back? Or under-stretching? Or something else?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 01:00 PM PST

Hi all! Wondering if anyone has some insight or had this feeling in their back. For some quick context, I'm 27 (F), and have never had significant back pain/issues. I did use to wake up with neck pain once in a while, but haven't in a long time and use a supportive pillow. I also used to dance, and feel that I have a pretty good sense of alignment and how far to push myself. I have pretty ok posture (though definitely struggle with it while sitting a lot, which I have been during quarantine!).

Anyway! I started doing Yoga With Adriene's 30 day January challenge. The first two days, I definitely felt significant opening up in my back muscles - some crunchiness there. On maybe the second or third day I definitely noticed this feeling after a session - it felt SO OPEN and it felt good but kind of intense, and I wasa tiny bit worried I had maybe hurt my back. It didn't turn into pain though, and I tried to be more careful as the days went on. However, in the last handful of days (day 12-15ish of the challenge) I've really noticed that I feel just... kinda weird in my upper back and neck. Not all the time, but lots of time throughout the day. It feels either overstretched or understretched? It feels *almost* tingly, but it's not really pins and needles (which I read would relate to nerve issues). It just kinda nags at me, but it's not a feeling I'm familiar with or sure whether to worry about. It's hard to figure out what exacerbates it or not - it's definitely better when I support my sitting posture so that my abs/back aren't doing all the work.

It almost feels like I'm overcorrecting my posture? Or overstretching? Not sure whether to take a break or keep working (with yoga) to strengthen my upper back (and for balance, chest) muscles?

Sorry for the ramble, and I realize you're not medical experts! Just curious if anyone's encountered this, can give any suggestions or insight, or whatnot. Appreciate any comments!
