    super embarrassed, quick question

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 07:41 AM PST

Is it normal to orgasm during certain poses of yoga or is that just a thing that happens to newbies? Does it mean anything? As a man, its impossible for me to hide this and it could become an issue, lol.

To whoever mentioned the Down Dog yoga app, Thanks!

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 01:08 PM PST

Someone mentioned it on another thread few hours ago, but I couldn't find which thread. I downloaded it and did an hour beginner session and really enjoyed it and was introduced to some new poses, so thanks to whoever mentioned it!

Today I cried through my practice

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 10:08 AM PST

I'm a 53F, postmenopausal and 40lbs overweight. Yoga for me is about flexibility, tone and generally improving my health as I get older. Im doing IF for weightloss and am on my second week so too soon for results. Im brand new to yoga using Adrienes beginner videos for almost 3 weeks now. Today I decided to use a mirror during practice to check my alignment and boy was that a bad idea. As I watched my fat, ugly body attempt each pose all I could do was cry over what I had done to myself. I didnt come away feeling at all positive. Im doing all the right things to improve my health but it was like I really saw myself for the first time and didn't like what I saw. It has neither motivated or discouraged me though ,more like a feeling of acceptance and ownership for where I am now. So I guess now I just need to forgive myself and move forward.

Same yoga mat after 8 years of daily use (old v. new Gaiam 5mm)

i also have an embarrassing quick question

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 07:31 PM PST

I can only do Dancer's pose on one side (with my right leg on the ground). When I go to do it on my left side, my raised leg (right) won't lift/rotate to behind my back. It wants to be outwards from my body.

I have equal hip flexibility otherwise though... I learned cobbler's pose from a young age and it has always been easy for me (can't feel it unless I put my head on the floor or maybe if I'm wearing shoes - it's the only flexibility I've ever had lmao)

I tried searching but couldn't find answers for either of these:

    1. Is it normal to have a preferred side

    2. Should I work on both sides for every pose? Should I try to make them equal?

Trouble with seated wide legged forward fold-Advice please

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 06:47 PM PST

I have a lot of trouble with seated wide legged forward folds-like I can only go forward a few inches. Standing wide legged forward folds are fine. Single leg or legs together forward folds are fine. But for some reason, I can barely move forward in the seated wide legged forward fold. I also cannot get my legs nearly as wide as when I am standing or have legs up against the wall. Any advice? Thank you!

Which way do your elbow creases go during a down dog?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 01:49 PM PST

My elbows would turn out so that the creases weren't facing each other. Some teachers told me during table top and what not to have the creases face each other.

I was just doing a yoga with Adrienne and she said to have your elbow creases pointed forward. It might have just been for the one downward dog variation we were doing.

Which way should I point my elbows during downward dog? Thank you :)

How Do You Become An Advanced Yogi?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 05:15 PM PST

At the risk of sounding like a moron: how does one reach advanced level yoga? I have been practicing for about two years now and have fallen in love with yoga but all of the studios near me only offer up to level two vinyasa classes. Where does one turn to level up their practice?

Help in applying yogic philosophy to death

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 12:05 PM PST

Hi all, I'm studying my 200hr YTT and becoming familiar with the philosophies of living without suffering - I've been applying it where I can and really noticing the differences!

But today I need some guidance please - my much loved family cat has died today and whilst I'm at peace because he was quite old and in fairly ill health, I am really suffering mentally and would just like to know how a yogi would advise to help ease this mental suffering?

    Many thanks all 🙏

How do you breathe steadily and smoothly?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 03:39 PM PST

I'm having trouble with yoga and actually working out in general because my breath gets very "shaky" like I can't seem to just breathe out in a steady manner. The air always comes out slowed down and in a constantly changing pace and I actually have no idea how to fix that. I would really like to do yoga more casually but so far it's not enjoyable at all because the breathing makes it so difficult for me.

Cant do forward fold. What should I do?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 12:17 PM PST

    Hello Everyone,

I have just started doing yoga with the downdog app. My question isnt about how I can touch my toes, but rather what should I do when that pose comes, should I go as far down as I can go without bending my knees or should I go all the way bending them? I dont want to hurt my back or anything.

    Thanks a bunch!

Tips: Wrist health and weight distribution

    Posted: 15 Jan 2021 11:06 PM PST

I've been focusing on making sure my wrists stay happy and healthy. So I've been mindful of making sure I'm not dumping into my wrists in the various poses. But I haven't quite been able to figure out how to avoid putting most of my weight in my wrist while doing a side plank.

Any tips on wrist health, how to maintain healthy weight distribution (particularly in side plank), and how to build wrist/hand/forearm strength?

I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

    What to do after YTT?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 12:02 PM PST

    Hello fellow yogi's!

I just passed my 200 HR YTT this week (yay and congrats to anyone else who did too!). I did it in the vinyasa style. I'd love to expand my learning on the topic, as my YTT left a lot to be desired. (So any advice is highly appreciated!)

I find I still have a lot to learn. I really want to be able to share yoga to the general public and hopefully get a part-time position as a yoga teacher or volunteer as a yoga teacher.

    I need some advice…

    • How should a yoga resume look like? What should be included?
    • What avenues are the best ways to network?
    • Any advice to get a yoga job online?

    Thanks!!!

    Sharp pain in middle split

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 03:34 AM PST

I've been doing ballet lessons for two years now, and i practice stretches and splits. I have absolutely no issue stretching for front splits and butterfly pose. I feel the normal stretch pain, that feels kinda good. But when i try stretching my middle (side) split i feel a sharp pain in my inner thighs (half down the upper leg). It feels wrong. And i feel no muscle stretch at all, just stinging needle pain. There is no improvement because of it. And online I can't find someone else with the same problem. Does anybody know what causes this, or how I can resolve it?

    Thankyou in advance!
