    [COMP] Dancer's Pose

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:10 AM PST

I did it! I’ve finally completed 30 days of YOGA! So proud and ever thankful.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 04:41 PM PST

It is with an extremely grateful heart to Adriene (of Yoga with Adriene) that I am feeling so proud and accomplished.

I've set out many times in an attempt to complete a 30 day Yoga challenge. It wasn't until today, that I completed one!

I have to say that Adriene, made this possible, she's so much fun, funny, thorough yet concise in her teaching of yoga. I love the way she encourages us to "smile" during practice, as well as, encouraging us to do what works for us or to "take a rest", allowing us to work at our own pace, and yet also giving lots of options for us beginners.

The last day was beautiful, and I shared the same sentiment she expresses in the intro to day 30: "feeling a bit emotional". She then sets her audience free; inviting them to do their own style yoga for this finale practice utilizing what she has taught these past 30 days. It was a beautiful conclusion to her teachings and encouragement to do what feels good to you.

My favorite of the 30 days was definitely day 24, I feel so many could take the time to do this simple yoga, and the 3 positive words "allow, release, let go" has become a bit of a mantra since.

    Thank you Adriene!

I'm thinking of doing the BREATH yoga with Adriene next. I'm looking for something very easy and light as I have something planned for the month of Feb +2 days of March.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 03:08 PM PST

Looking for someone on you tube or prime similar to Adriene but less chatty?

I like her flows and her 30 day challenges and she is really my favorite but sometimes I wish she wouldn't talk so much at the beginning and during savasana.

    Any recs?

    125 Days of Yoga

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 03:45 PM PST

Today is day 125 of yoga for me! In a row! If you had told me on day 1 I would have stuck with it this long I would not have believed you.

I've always struggled to find ways to exercise that I don't dread, along with struggling to love myself and yoga has helped with BOTH! I now workout every single day and my inner voice is much kinder.

I never knew yoga could help you get in shape which is probably silly but I started to help with my PTSD. To be more mindful and aware of my body and it's definitely helped with that but I'm also way more muscular than I've ever been!

Just wanted to share with people who appreciate yoga as much as I do :)

Recommendations for a moderately experienced yogi who lost all strength/balance after a year away

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:28 PM PST

Yoga used to be a major pillar in my life, but the cost of CPY, long hours at work and ultimately the pandemic saw me stop completely.

This December I started a CPY live subscription and stayed with it for 2 weeks before giving up. I was extremely discouraged, being unable to do even basic sun salutations. CPY only offers C2+ live (I probably need a C1) and I really need a live teacher to keep me engaged.

I know yoga is about the journey, but I'm feeling so discouraged. Usually the community feel at my local studio keeps me encouraged and coming back. I'm missing the personal touch of the in-class adjustments as well.

Are there any programs you can recommend that aren't too geared for beginners, but can meet me where I am?

    Alignment

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:08 PM PST

I read that a pelvic tilt or a misaligned hip can affect your jaw and facial symmetry and a woman says it in this video https://youtu.be/Q0Y10uDeIUA

I tried the exercises from that video and didn't hear or feel a click in my hips

Also one of my collar bones is less prominent than the other and one of my breasts is lower than the other.

Please give me advice on what to do or some videos to help with aligning the whole body.

I would just LOVE to align every part of my body if I could.

    Thank you :)

    Facial twitches in Savasana?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:54 PM PST

Question about random body weirdness during yoga (if anyone will know, it's someone on Reddit, right?). So- in the last few months, when I start to get into relaxation during savasana, the left half of my face starts to twitch. Like... A LOT. Some days, it's A LOT A LOT. It doesn't happen any other time I'm relaxing (like while falling asleep), only during yoga.

Possibly relevant information is that I have a nerve condition called trigeminal neuralgia on the that side of my face- but it does not affect the motor nerves and has never caused facial tics before.

I'm genuinely not medically worried about it (and I have a neurologist I can always ask if it gets worrying)- more just curious if anyone else has also had this, and any theories about why bodies can be weird in this particular way!

Pain in hips in reclined cobblers pose (Supta Baddha Konasana), how can I lessen it? It's not like a muscle pain and feels more like a bone pain. I have no pain in the lower back in this pose, but it almost feels like my hips are going to pop out of the sockets. Help?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 08:32 PM PST

I make sure to tuck my shoulders under and really breathe into the posture, but for some reasons my hips can barely take it. I have a fairly high pain tolerance, and most stretches are fairly easy for me (I danced for many years before developing my yoga practice) but I can't seem to find any resources on any one else with a similar experience. I've tried moving my legs in more, out more, and everywhere in between but the discomfort just stays the same. I know I could find a variation, but I'd like to see if there's any way I can find a solution before I remove it from my rep. Thank you! Namaste <3

    Footwear for flat feet?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:47 PM PST

Heyo, I have pretty bad flat feet that mess up my poses and hurt my lower half. Anyone have suggestions for footwear that may help with these issues? I'm not really looking for shoes but more straps or toeless socks I guess? Something so I can feel the group but that keep my feet in a better position. Many thanks!

In triangle pose, I cannot look up for the life of me. Are there any poses that can get me there?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:49 PM PST

Both triangle pose and extended side angle pose have you, ideally, turning your head to look at the ceiling. My shoulders and neck immediately tighten to a painful degree, I can't look up for more than a second. I wonder if there are some less intense poses where I can try to stretch the same muscles and come back to triangle/ extended side angle. Thanks for your thoughts!

I want to progress! What are appropriate challenges for my level?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 08:46 AM PST

    Hey yoga people :)

I started doing yoga 2-3 months ago, basically every single day, about 30 minutes on average. I'm really seeing a lot of progress in strength and flexibility, my downward dog finally looks like one (yay!). Now, I'm technically happy with the progress on flexibility, however I'm really craving some more intermediate/advanced poses. Like many people I'd love to be able to do any kind of handstand (or forearmstand) but I'm obv not strong enough for that as dolphin poses still get my shoulders to burn pretty quick xD

My question is if there are poses that are fine to tackle pretty soon in the yoga journey but aren't the typical downward dog, lizard, half pigeon, warrior poses etc.

I'd like a pose to work on and progress on and eventually be able to do it and be proud :)

I don't know if it's clear what I mean, I hope so. Maybe you guys could say what were the first more advanced poses you tried :)

    Thank you!

    How to improve knee-to-nose?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:00 AM PST

What muscles need to be strengthened to bring your knee closer to your nose? I can touch knee to nose with my left leg, but am struggling to do the same with my right leg. And when doing that move, I can't really identify what muscle(s) is being used, so I'm not sure what to focus on improving. Hoping someone out there knows! Thanks in advance :)

    Feeling even more stiff?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:55 AM PST

    Hi!

I am a beginner in yoga, have been practising for about three weeks regularly (an easy beginners pratice every evening). I like it a lot, but I have noticed some weird differences in how my body feels.

Nowadays, when I wake up, I feel even more stiff than I used to before I started exercising regularly! The stiffness does not go away unless I do a short stretch. Sometimes I feel this discomfort throughout the day, too. I doubt this is a simple muscle soreness, since I used to workout before and the soreness would feel different.

I am not sure if this happens because I now pay more attention to my body or is there something wrong with how I exercise? Does/ did anyone else experience this in the beginning?

    Thanks!

P.S. Now that I think of it, maybe taking Rest Days might help?

    Tense upper thighs

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:25 PM PST

Hi all. I tend to hold tension in my upper thigh area. In certain poses - boat pose in particular - I feel the BURN more in my upper thighs than anywhere else. This also goes for some other ab workouts like Russian twist. It's really annoying actually. And the next day my abs aren't even sore, just my upper thighs.

Does anyone know the cause of this or adjustments I can make to fix it? Thanks
