Meditation seems to be the only thing that stops me from ruminating.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:58 AM PST

I'm naturally an anxious person and my mind is constantly ruminating about everything. From the moment I wake up until I fall asleep, the good the bad, literally everything. When I meditate, which is usually guided meditations, I focus on the words and my breath. That focus stops my ruminating mind, not only for the amount of time I'm meditating, but for hours afterwards. The end result is it allowing me to shut my mind off long enough to fall asleep. It also helps me be a more productive member of society.

Renaming my cat as ‘mindfulness’ so that whenever I see her, I can practice it.

Let your mind wander. Let your mind be.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 04:17 PM PST

Wandering mind is not the enemy. Lack of awareness causes getting lost in thoughts.

    Don't try to supress thinking.

Just started feeling kinda meh and remembered a meditation technique and wanted to share

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 03:51 PM PST

Whenever you're feeling any sorta way that you don't like, just appreciate yourself , and thank yourself for feeling said way , love the emotion you're feeling and let it in ,don't push it away or pretend it's not there , learn to love it because it is a part of you and what makes you you. The more you try the less you be and the less you see.

I've been meditating for around 5 years, almost no changes to my wellbeing / mental state, should I quit?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 01:44 PM PST

Been meditating on and off around 5 years, some days 5 minutes, some 20, some almost an hour. I have deep trauma stemming from my childhood and it's dawned on me that all this meditation has been for nothing, I'm still the same shell of a human I was 5 years ago. Should I just give it up?

Might help to mention I've been on a waiting list for around 2 years to get tested for ADHD, which I DEFINITELY have. (UK mental health system is horrendous hence the wait time)

    3 days into meditation

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:18 PM PST

I woke up today feeling so sad about something's I've said in the past, things that were filled with negative emotions and might have likely push people away from me. Is this self realization? Is this as a result of meditation or what?

Loving-kindness meditation is also known as Metta Meditation. Its goal is to cultivate an attitude of love and kindness toward everything, even a person's enemies and sources of stress.

Loving-kindness meditation is designed to promote a feeling of compassion and love both for others and oneself.

Most profound experience you have ever had meditating and how you felt afterwards?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 09:20 PM PST

Ok guys, so maybe this sounds ridiculous, as it's my first time ever attempting real meditation, but I was just starting a mindfulness exercise today. One of those introductory 5 minute courses focusing just on your breath. During this 5 minutes I didn't expect much, maybe just me getting started on focusing my thoughts. Near the end of the experience though, maybe during the last minute, I had what I could only describe as a (foggy) vision in my head, where I was sitting under the night sky but it was cloudy outside and I couldn't see any stars. I am meditating under this night sky, and while meditating, the clouds slowly open up to reveal a full galaxy of stars. For me, this vision was shockingly profound, and it spoke to me as though it was saying that to truly see all that life has to offer, I need to "uncloud" my mind so to speak, and meditation is the way to accomplish that. Just curious about anyone else to see if anyone has had any profound realizations or what the coolest experience exploring your mind was like.

    What happened yesterday ?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 12:47 AM PST

I meditated for 30 minutes and it made me feel so horrible a while after. Don't get me wrong it felt sorta blissful immediately after it ended. I think its interesting however how meditation can bring things up. I actually love it , it's like it makes you face your demons head on. It can suck though , too. Its not fun being reminded of all the shit I stress about in my dreams, it makes me over analyze myself too. But I guess it can be a good thing too . This post is kinda confusing , meditation can be too sometimes but I guess I just gotta keep with it

    Breath awareness meditation

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:23 PM PST

Breath awareness is a type of mindful meditation that encourages mindful breathing.

Practitioners breathe slowly and deeply, counting their breaths or otherwise focusing on their breaths. The goal is to focus only on breathing and to ignore other thoughts that enter the mind.

    Mechanical Timer

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:24 PM PST

Recently, I been thinking about the ancient people. How do they know 1 hour? If they are doing their meditation. It could be 40 minutes. It could be 1 and half hour. Without using my smart phone, I can never be right about 60 minutes.

I start to experiment different app, different phone, and different way for my meditation time. I found a monkey mechanical timer for cooking. It turned out to be really good. It doesn't need battery. There is only one function. The monkey always happy. And the advertising image say "Don't monkey around with your cooking time." LOL. It's definitely true with meditation. So many snake oil sales people monkey around with meditation time, so it's easier to sell their program and for them to make a dollar. It's the full monkey 60 minutes meditation or nothing.

If meditation become like another instant gratification or a product money can buy, it is then just like all the other junk.

How do you tell it's one hour? How about ancient people? Any creative way? Comment below...

Advice for getting back into it, any advanced tips?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:50 PM PST

I started meditating for the first time in March of 2020, I did it everyday until early August. I've had some life changing experiences in that time but it was also a horrible time in my life, maybe the worst. I'm now the best person I've ever been, somebody I can be proud of. I'm gonna jump back in tonight and do some learning about myself, what do I need to do?

    Needing some advice please.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:31 PM PST

So, I've been having some issues trying to meditate. It's supposed to be about letting your thoughts flow correct? Well, Ive been getting super frustrated whenever I meditate. I'm not trying to NOT think, I'm just trying to not fixate on thoughts that come. Does that sounds like the right place to start? I'm just so confused because every time I meditate, I come away from it more frustrated than before I started, so I feel like I'm doing something wrong...could meditation just not be for me?

    Sharing meditation with the public

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:14 PM PST

I'm sure others have had the same idea previously, but I just had a thought that I'd like to share and get your feedback on.

What if we were to sometimes take our meditation practice on the road, and visit a park or other populated area, then engage in meditation in public view? This would be done with the intention of inspiring people who have not encountered meditation outside of books, movies or the Internet to try it, even if just for a few minutes.

My current idea is to prepare a small A-frame or similar device which would state something along these lines:

    Meditation:

A practice to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

I would be delighted if you would join me for five minutes (or longer).

    How to meditate:

    1. Sit comfortably and remain still
    2. Fix your gaze slightly downward
    3. Breathe naturally and deeply
    4. When breathing in, notice that you are breathing in. Think "I am breathing in"
    5. When breathing out, notice that you are breathing out. Think "I am breathing out"
    6. Engage in this breathing meditation for at least five minutes. Whenever your mind wanders from noticing your breathing, think "imagining" or "remembering" or "planning", etc. and return your focus to your breath.

This is mindful breathing meditation. There are many other ways to meditate.

    Please do not speak.

I'd like to flesh this idea out a bit more, and create a website to coordinate this effort. Perhaps such a website already exists? Let me know what you think, and how this idea could be improved.

Is the experience in "the now" the way to truly "live" (mindfulness)?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:18 AM PST

Hello everybody. I've been overthinking and having many of my thoughts out of control lately, although nothing is "wrong" exactly with any situation. I finished college and I started to wonder what to do or be in my life. Not only did I felt kind of lost, but I also started to think about... Well, death itself. As to how should I "live" life. I don't want my problems to go away, per say. I know I'll have obligations, taxes and other things to pay sure: no problem with that at all.

I do, however, imagine myself in some kind of bed just thinking "damn, I could have experienced just life itself without overthinking everything constantly...". Since this was a very dark yet interesting topic, I wanted to ask if mindfulness and noticing things around you overall might help to just... I don't know, be happy. There's some things in the past that might be important, yes. And I think having some thoughts about the future is fine and all of that, but I'm kind of afraid to just let go of most of those thoughts and just flow into the unknown.

To the people with experience, what could I do?

Anyone else started noticing people won't admit wrong but you do when you're wrong with them after meditating

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 05:39 PM PST

It's hilarious but when I point it out it that I admit failt and they don't it makes people lose their mind with anger so now I just laugh at them. Meditation may make you win arguments but their not worth it as you may feel bad after they get mad and it's better to be nice even when people are being mean.
