I did crow for the first time today!!! Any tips for holding it for longer than a few seconds? Posted: 15 Feb 2021 02:49 PM PST After two years of on and off yoga I finally got both feet off the ground into a crow pose!! But now I need to work on holding it for longer than a few seconds, does anyone have any tips for that? [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Feb 2021 06:04 PM PST Hi guys, I'm new to this sub so forgive me if this has already been discussed. How do you guys feel about hot yoga? I enjoy it immensely, feel great afterwards and definitely feel like it improves my mental/physical health. I do feel like the sweating detoxes my body and cleans out my system. But I recently saw a video of Jillian Michaels on YouTube completely slamming it, saying that there's zero health benefits to working out in the hot temperature. Thoughts as to the real benefits? Curious but will continue my practice anyway. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Feb 2021 06:40 AM PST How are you all coping with so many yoga studios still being shut down? I lice in a city, and all our studios are shut down still, and I really miss my hot yoga and being around others and the general environment. Also, if anyone has any advice on how to make home have more of the ambiance of a studio, let me know. My place is also pretty small and I miss being in a big studio. [link] [comments]
| I want to get more out of Yoga Posted: 15 Feb 2021 02:07 PM PST Recently I had experiences with meditation that seem similar to what I've heard others describe relating to Yoga. I practice asanas that seem to help me with flexibility and recovery from training, but that's basically it. I sometimes go through a guided Yoga Nidra meditation. Been doing that for three or four years. I'm trying to find Yoga practices I can do that might deepen my experience. As it is, I just practice asanas that I've found helpful and try to breath "correctly." COVID and a lack of funds make going into a studio difficult. I've read up on different styles of Yoga, but most of the descriptions I've found are centered around externalities (do it in a hot room, move through poses a certain way, etc.) but I am more interested in the internal experience. So I suppose I am just looking for advice and what kinds of practices I can start up that are more on the meditative side of things, or really any practice that might cause an interesting experience. | Looking for a teacher/studio/tradition that deals with the dark stuff Posted: 15 Feb 2021 05:16 PM PST I've always been turned off by the overwhelming positivity of Yoga classes. Just once I'd like to be in class and have someone ask me to close my eyes and envision my corpse being eaten by worms after I die Are there any teachers/studios/traditions that feature/give attention to the darker stuff in life? | Posted: 15 Feb 2021 02:39 PM PST Hi everyone! I've been practicing for just over a month now and I'm finding it hard to ensure I am putting my weight in the right places. Any tips for making sure I am putting my weight across my hands rather than just in my wrists? I find that I can be aware of the weight distribution when I'm not putting too much weight on my hands but as soon as I am practicing a stronger pose, it all goes straight back to my wrists. Am I pushing myself too much and if so, how do I keep improving this without doing so? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Feb 2021 02:28 PM PST Hello everyone! My name is Janina and I am a user experience design student. For my project, I designed an app called Sequence Owl that aims to help yoga teachers create yoga sequences. I would like to get some feedback from yoga teachers on the app by performing short usability tests in a call. You can participate if you have 15 minutes to spare in the next few days and have a laptop/desktop computer. The session can be booked here: https://calendly.com/janinawoita/sequence-owl-usability-test I would appreciate it a lot if you can participate. Thank you very much! 😊 [link] [comments]

What do you think is important to have in a studio? What is your ideal studio like? Posted: 15 Feb 2021 07:11 PM PST Hi guys, I'm a yoga teacher in nyc and have mostly worked internationally at yoga retreats. I feel like I'm finally ready to put aside the nomadic lifestyle and open my own studio. I know what I value in a yoga studio, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. What is one thing that can make it or break it for you? What puts one studio above the rest? What is something that would make you say "oh no" Of course quality teachers and classes are a must, but outside of that, what's your dream place to practice? I've always find I like the bare bones studios better. I don't know if anyone is familiar with yoga to the people in nyc, but that's by far my favorite. But I'm opening my studio in a bit of a high end area and will have to charge a higher fee to cover the costs. I'm planning to add a little spa area in the back where I can offer natural skincare, massages and reiki sessions.. as well as a bit of a retail area in the front area to have products that I personally can't live without (ex: my favorite natural skincare products and ouds from around the world, homemade candles, organic coffees and teas I've fallen in love with through my travels, sustainable lady products and the best yoga clothes (in my opinion) no slip mats... etc) what would you want to be sold? Thanks for your help 🌻 ❤️ [link] [comments]

poses/routine to strengthen core (abs) so that chest can lift while standing? (ATP + hunched over) Posted: 15 Feb 2021 01:57 PM PST i did "upper back love" with adrienne which helped a lot. i was trying to fix my back without lifting my chest and this helped me realize this. but mostly when i lift my chest standing, my core just collapses bc it's gotten so weak. to exaggerate slightly i am morphing into a candy cane. shoulders are very rounded from ignoring my arms (and being hunched over). forward head posture. super tight lower back ATP. legs/glutes have improved but i still need to strengthen my abs and maybe some deep inner core muscles, like right beneath chest. i have been tucking my chin, but as i said not rly lifting my chest up. so would lots of cat-cow pose help? child's pose is what helped greatly initially readjust from that video. i see lots of vids online but just am not sure exactly which poses i need to be focusing on to straighten posture. i guess might be worth mentioning that part of where i'm having a hard time is my breathing bc of air quality where i am. so that has contributed to my posture being extra sunken in as well. sage helps a lot temporarily, but obviously compensating for spending so much time hunched over is near impossible. hopefully will be breathing freely in a new space soon. hope to hear from some of you and many thanks to any suggestions [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Feb 2021 10:34 AM PST Hi Everyone, I did go ahead and get a thinner mat! That said, I find that on one leg poses, that my balance needs a lot of work. I know it won't happen overnight. What I find weird is that I feel like I'm gripping with my toes a little bit. I know I need to use the heel/ball of foot, and I try to push through those. I can also feel all the muscles/ tendons around my ankles clinging for dear life! I experienced this during ekapada utthansana. Is this normal when you start out? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Feb 2021 10:18 PM PST I especially notice this after practicing yoga asana for the first time in a few days. It's one of the main reasons I keep up with my practice. I swear sometimes I feel like I'm walking on air because my movements feel so light and graceful after a solid session. I'm a 24 y/o male and I've never felt this comfortable in my body in my entire life. For anyone wondering I've practiced yoga asana on and off pretty consistently for the past few years, only making it a mostly daily or bi-daily practice in the last two years. The physical and mental benefits are so profound I can't vouch for it enough to any guy who thinks it's only something that 'chicks' or 'gay guys' do. We really need to get past this stigma. And for anyone looking to get started you don't need to do 15-20 minute long sessions in order to feel the benefits. Just a few minutes of a basic sun salutation and a few other poses and the effects can be pretty profound. [link] [comments]

Doing The Sun Salutation.. advice please Posted: 15 Feb 2021 07:38 AM PST I have been doing yoga on and off for a few years. With the Downward Dog instead of keeping my legs and feet together, I find it easier to keep a wider stance. Even though it may not be text book correct I do feel my hamstrings stretching. Also I am having trouble with pose three, hands to floor, this is really stiff also. Is it of benefit to my legs to widen my stance. More importantly does anyone think it may loosen my hamstrings. Any advice appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments]

| Posted: 15 Feb 2021 04:07 AM PST I notice whenever I lunge or go into a warrior pose or bend my right knee in any way it isn't aligning with my foot. Like it points to the top left of my mat (just about) I'm not sure if it's linked at all to my right-sided hemiplegia or not, but could someone help me out or does anyone have any knowledge on the subject? *I have no issues with my left knee, it aligns just fine with my foot.
