Started yoga again after some time... Posted: I started again two days ago. I have been promising myself that I would start again. And here I am! Started with basics, as my muscles are not that flexible anymore. But realized, after two lessons, that my flexibility is coming back! And I am feeling so much better after every lesson. I am really determined to practice, if not everyday, at least three days per week. I hope to keep my good job! [link] [comments] |

One thing I’ve learned from the East Posted: Yoga is amazing, and has helped me destroy legions of fascia and helped me in freeing the restrictions of my mind by freeing my body. Although one thing has always stuck with me. "The West doesn't squat". And we don't. We sit in comfy chairs which allow our bodies to sink into the material and deform our skeletal alignment. Since I tapped into sitting in the squat position daily, I feel a lot more powerful and connected with my legs and feet. I like to use a yoga block because it's firm and allows you to use the edge to sit on with your sits bones and find places that need opening. This has been revolutionary to me, which I've been doing for a few months now and has helped align my lower torso to my abdomen and I have to suggest this new old way of sitting to anyone who believes it would benefit them. Calling short yogis, I feel like I'm too short.. Posted: I don't have much to say on this. Lol. Just that I'm 5'2". And I always see these long limbed people looking damn fine in their poses.. and I just feel like... I look wrong because I'm not taller. I know this is funny. I'm also... Newish to doing my practice every day. Before it was every now and then. And I've always assumed the way I looked within my poses was due to inflexibility and a lack of practice. While both have improved. I still feel like I'm really reaching within my poses to get the correct shape. Tell me I'm crazy and way too critical of myself. Lol. [link] [comments] |
How did you get over your fear of going upside down? Posted: I've been practicing yoga for years and started Ashtanga a few months ago. I am keen to learn a handstand tuck transition (between downward dog and jumping to the top of my mat) but am absolutely terrified of launching myself too far forward and breaking my neck. I've watched all the YouTube videos on different drills and tried them all, I have even registered for a couple handstand workshops. Still, I am scared. I can't even bring myself to get my hips high enough for my feet to touch the wall. Often I find the more I practice, the more in my head I get, and I actually end up more scared than when I started. For context, I can hold a headstand for 10+ breaths, without making use of the wall. So does anyone have any insight on what's going on here?? For those of you that overcame your paralyzing fear of crash-landing in a handstand, how did you overcome it??? Any advice would be very helpful :) [link] [comments] |
Best online yoga and mat for me (see details) Posted: Hi, I had total knee replacement surgery so I cannot kneel on my left knee at all. I also have cervical spine arthritis/stenosis so exercises where I have to roll my head result in terrible headaches. My doctors want me to get more exercise and I know yoga is good for pain and inflammation. I just don't know enough about yoga to pick an online program where I won't have to skip a lot. Also, I don't know where to start with mats, they all look really thin to me. Any suggestions? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
I think I hurt my foot during yoga Posted: Hey everyone! I'm new to the yoga game (28 years old, overall healthy) and try practising 1-2 times a day for about 20 minutes. Actually I am a sporty type, but since 2 days I am noticing my left foot hurts on the top left close to the ankle (it kind of feels like something is "blocking the veins" or so, I know nothing is blocking my veins but thats what I imagine it would feel like). It's like a pressure. I don't feel the pain during sessions but more randomly during the day, sometimes more sometimes less. Should I pause practicing? Does anyone else have this? Did I do something wrong? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Yoga that lifts your spirits and calms your soul Posted: After practice today I realized that my mood had improved quite a lot over the hour. I had gone from a bit stressed and sad to actually quite cheerful. I did a hatha set on the DownDog app that, I think because of the focus on poses and breathing, gave my mind a rest so that it could reset, calm down. So, I'm wondering what others do when you need to decompress, calm down, or release sadness. Do yo have a set flow or type of yoga that helps? [link] [comments] |
How to warm up for sarwangasana? Posted: Hello! I recently learned that sarwangasana can hace great health benefits but I want yo know If there are some warm up yogasans I should do before trying it. Can you help me? [link] [comments] |
Posted: Hello guys very sorry if this is not the right way to post here but I am very desperate. I will try to keep this short as possible. Problem - If I stand completely relaxed, the whole right side of my body is turning left, so if my feet are facing forward my belly button is actually facing 10/11am. I am in constant pain, I have a "knot" or something that has cropped up in the last 2 years in my lats are on the right side. When I exercise or breathe deep I can wriggle and it pops, sometimes I hear so many clicks/pops down and up the right side. My right side body is also smaller than the left especially the glutes area. My hips also feel constantly tight as hell I can't do any of the yoga poses with good form or at all. Oh and I have EXTREME hyperlordosis if I stand up straight Context - I'm M(30), 6ft3, athletic type build, always played sports as a kid/late teen but in the teens did become more of a computer nerd but no more than anyone else and was still somewhat active with gym etc. I'm starting to think I just have some kind of scoliosis I have all the symptoms and someone my age should not be feeling like this, the reason I think it's scoliosis is because I know people who sit 100x more than me, don't exercise and their posture is fine. Mine is terrible, my gait is messed up when I walk, it's just constant nightmare to do daily activity. This isn't an exaggeration but I have been feeling like this for so long with nothing seeming to fix it, it's so depressing and basically I don't want to live sometimes due to it, I just think wtf is the point if it's just going to get worse and worse. Any tips would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
