Tip and advice for hypothyroid and yoga Posted: 03 Apr 2021 04:08 PM PDT So I've searched the subreddit. And maybe I'm just overwhelmed, but I need advice. Recently diagnosed. Been doing yoga on and off for ages. Right now my body feels like dead weight. I'm on new meds, and they should kick in within 6 weeks. But I wanna do some yoga to help my thyroid and don't know where to start. There's so many on Google/YouTube so was wondering if someone with hypothyroidism has found someone's yoga practice who helped them. Been researching foods/lifestyles/etc. And there's just SO MUCH CONFLICTING info that it would be nice to hear from someone who's lived these early days of diagnosis and done yoga that's helped. Thanks so much [link] [comments] |
Long-term yogis, how do you plan your flow? Posted: 03 Apr 2021 05:36 AM PDT Especially to you long-term yogis: Do you practice with an app that tells you the next poses or do you make up a sequence everytime on your own (just in time or by a predefined plan) ? How do you incorporate special poses that require more training, e.g. head stands or crow? Are they even part of a sequence? [link] [comments] |
Struggling to practice after a bad experience with a studio Posted: 03 Apr 2021 01:45 PM PDT My studio made abrupt changes and the owner started pumping out trainings(for $$$) like crazy. I have been a member for a while and these changes were recent. She keeps upselling people into her "trainings". I'm watching a group of young women spend thousands on YTT, then another weekend training and now an additional personal 1-on-1 training/personal coaching that she convinced they needed. Most of the classes are being taught by very inexperienced yogis who are part of her core group of followers paying thousands of dollars into these trainings. It feels like some kind of MLM/pyramid scheme. I canceled my contract and stopped attending classes there because it felt morally questionable. I know these women are making their own choices but they are all fairly young and impressionable. Idk how the owner feels okay with asking them to pay her more and more money. I haven't practiced all week because I'm bitter and I typically practice 4-5 days/week. I'm just feeling disillusioned and turned off by the "yoga world". [link] [comments] |
Love the idea of yoga, but can’t seem to get into it? Posted: 03 Apr 2021 01:36 PM PDT Hello, I'm looking for some advice! I'm a dancer, so I do have a background in flexibility and balance. I've been wanting to get into yoga as my form of exercise on my days off, but I just can't seem to stick with it. I find the youtube videos I've been doing kind of slow paced (I've done yoga with Adrienne) and I get bored halfway through and sometimes just stop. Can anyone recommend some more difficult, fast paced styles of yoga that would help with my dance training? [link] [comments] |

Yoga pants without elastane/spandex? Posted: 03 Apr 2021 09:30 AM PDT I'm on the search for yoga pants (or athletic type pants on general) that don't have any elastane or spandex on them. Standard yoga pants and leggings make my legs/hips itch like crazy, and I can't really ignore it anymore. It's kinda hard to specifically search for pants without those materials, since they're so ubiquitous. Does anyone have any experience finding such items? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2021 09:28 AM PDT Hi all - I'm looking to get into a yoga practice. I took a ton of classes in college and loved it, but am very out of practice/feel like most of my flexibility is gone. I'm limited with studio options near me (also in law school and broke). I do have props at home but am feeling a bit lost on how to build a practice w/o classes. However, I also want it to become something I do on my own. I do some general YouTube videos but I'm looking to learn more about each pose (including how to properly do them) as well as explore the spiritual side of yoga. What recommendations do you have for learning, other than a studio? [link] [comments] |
Help for newbie, would appreciate your starter opinions Posted: 03 Apr 2021 11:06 AM PDT Hello, I would like to reduce my stress and depression through yoga. But I have no idea how to self start? I don't want to go to a class, I just want to practice regularly and someday achieve the very difficult poses. What are the best ways to self start? Please be specific, I know YouTube is one way. But what's the best teacher to follow regularly in your opinion? [link] [comments] |

Question for the experienced yogis out there Posted: 03 Apr 2021 10:41 AM PDT I first started to go to yoga classes in college. However, now I have graduated and I miss it. I am wanting to start practicing yoga here at my house but I am not so sure where to start since there are so many types of yoga. I currently do 3 slow sets of sun-rise salutations every morning and I enjoy it but I am looking to advance my journey. I am wanting to find a form of yoga to practice that focuses on primarily spirituality, mindset, & flexibility. Least important to me is strength since I workout 6-days a week. I would also like to practice an older form of yoga rather then the modern forms. Any recommendations? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2021 10:35 AM PDT Poor posture and weight lifting have contributed to a complete inability to engage my psoas muscles. Poses? Tips? Is it safe to pop my SI joint if I never have before? [link] [comments] |
Quadriceps tingling no pain when doing kneeling hip flexor stretch Posted: 03 Apr 2021 09:48 AM PDT In the early days this week (day 1-3), i felt pins and needles poking on my quadriceps(left leg) to my inner thigh near knee Then yesterday, the feeling changed into the feeling of static tv particles or tingling sensation. Then now when im walking i felt tingling sensation to the same exact location but it goes away after few steps.... before this, My hips got tight due to response of muscle overuse injury then it calmed down so i did some follow along stretching and strengthening exercises video. does anyone experience this? Is this common? I dont know if its worth it to go to a doctor since i dont feel any pain at all, plus very tight restricted budget. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2021 07:38 AM PDT so iv been practicing pranayama and visual proyections; im positive iv mastered astral travel. but there is this other thing; cracking. there are certain places that crack more than others. but i find myself constantly twisting and moving snake like. it feels ok. in that i feel not ok. with that "energy blockage", and when i pop it, i get relief. also, i was injured/crippled; and with yoga iv taken my body back, certifiedhealthnut twists like i do. making space in the body. any thoughts fellow yogis. what is this that im experiencing. its definetly a toc, 20+ times a day. the best ones occur after a long kundalini practice but i digress [link] [comments] |
Advice on finding a guru before becoming a teacher Posted: 02 Apr 2021 10:22 PM PDT I'm very interested in becoming a yoga teacher in the near future. Yoga has always been a place of calm for me, and I want to share that with other people. I feel particularly called to develop classes for those who may have bodily limitations (larger bodies, disabled bodies, elderly bodies, etc). Due to a history of Eating disorders, and some body issues, my therapist has recommended that I work with a guru or mentor of some sort as I ease back into my practice (and then eventually into teacher training). Some of my special concerns are the diet restrictions many yogis recommend (I cannot follow a specific diet or ayurveda at the moment), my relationship with my body, and my relationship with "exercise" and physical movement. I've been taking a break, but I also have degenerative disc disease. So this is something I will need a lot of time working towards, and I really feel having a mentor as I rediscover my path with yoga would be very beneficial. I have no idea where to start on that search. Do I look for a "private instructor" in my area? A yoga therapist? Do I contact a studio? Is there a resource I might not know of? Should I search for someone who specializes in a particular style? I'm thinking this would be a primarily spiritual teacher, and am leaning towards someone with a good understanding of kunalini yoga. I've done studio mat/barre pilates, but yoga has almost exclusively been at home. I so appreciate any advice on how to find the help I need. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Apr 2021 10:35 AM PDT 1) shine your heart: doesn't mean anything 2) root to rise: see #1 3) drop (anything): just say 'release' 4) cheetah, ibis, Osiris pose: not real things 5) random praise not earned by group: give specific feedback that we deserve it feels more authentic 6) breathe into your (back, belly, kidneys, groin, whatever): see #4 There's so many more I'm just warming up [link] [comments] |
