    I made a yoga outfit! ✨

[COMP] It took 250 days of practice, but today I did my first foot above the knee Tree Pose.

Guys, it’s been more than EIGHT WEEKS since I started doing 6-7 days of weekly yoga practice. I wonder who else might get how incredible this is for me.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 09:47 PM PDT

I suppose this is just a bit of a rave. Edit for formatting.

I am 40 years old and have ADHD, on top of anxiety and depression. I've only done yoga maybe 1-6 times a year since my mid 20s, but I started on February 11th and I'm just in love. I can honestly say that I have never in my life shown this level of meaningful dedication to doing something consistently when I have not been told to do so (although I managed a master's degree in a professional field that I dislike, and am seven years in). I have gone through so many hobbies that I have some talent for, but I have no passion to keep going. Painting, guitar, so many art projects, announcing events, needlework, writing, studying foreign language, dance... so many interesting things that I've enjoyed that never seem to hold my attention enough to do it almost every day.

But it's never been more than a couple weeks of several times a week practice.

I've been doing 10-60+ minutes of yoga every day. Sometimes twice a day. Sometimes I'll do a basic routine with my kid for 20 minutes, then do 20 more of intermediate because I don't want to stop. Sometimes when I wake up, sometimes a longer one mid-day. I do easier routines most nights before bed, when I haven't managed to during the day. But I'm always doing something, even just a little, DAILY. This is so good for me, to have a little passion for something. That fact alone is amazing.

Still, as if that weren't enough, it also is SO damn good for me!?! My neck doesn't hurt anymore, I've lost like 5 pounds, I LOOK better - although I'm not even thinking about how my body looks while I'm doing it. Well, I'm thinking about it, but all in the context of whether my hips are squared and whatnot, haha - not how 'attractive' I might look. I don't know if I've ever not been concerned with my appearance during a fitness routine before, it's quite refreshing.

I do the poses, and there's always something to think about, something to focus on. Are my shoulders still relaxed, not up towards my ears? Am I straight on the mat, am I still holding in my core? The fairly rapid thoughts are comfortable for me with the attention issues, because I'm familiar with thinking too much. But the thoughts aren't racing, they're pleasant and easily addressed, they're calmly floating through the different body parts, listening. I often notice that I'm thinking of nothing but my balance and accuracy, or of nothing but my breathing. It's just lovely.

That is a major part of how it's helping me mentally, for sure. It's giving me practice of just focusing on one thing fully. Allowing myself to enjoy the comparative focus of my practice to the normal constant hum of various unpleasantness - it's just a benefit that can't be understated. But there's also the pride in the fact that I'm doing this for myself. I'm impressed with what I can do, but humbled by the idea that it's not about what I can do, it's just about doing it, listening to my body, and enjoying it.

Tonight, I am going to bed at 12:30, after only ten minutes of yoga this morning, and a single sun salutation just before I sat down. I have been going to bed after 2:00 most nights, when I should have been around 10:00 - but I DID go to bed at 10:00 last night, and 12:30 still ain't bad. I am not upset or disappointed in myself for not doing a longer evening routine almost at all - and that is only because I'm displeased with myself for mismanaging my time.

I'm getting there. I'm doing this because I really enjoy it and I love that it's good for me. I love yoga. Go do some yoga. Or tell me about what it's done for you, let's keep this going.

Today yoga made me feel good in my body

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 07:29 PM PDT

I thought I'd share this victory! All my life I've been called ugly. When I was in middle school I was bullied for my looks. After my freshman year Of high school I developed body image issues which still affect me today but it's more under control. I had a lot of self esteem that was taken away from me.

When I was in high school I stood out looks wise from many girls in my school because of my dark curly hair and brown eyes. As a result I developed insecurities for being different. Then I got to college which I'm graduating from soon and the insecurities persisted. I realized that I had to do something with my issues because if It persisted I would've gone down a very dark path.

I decided to take responsibility for my insecurities. Instead of blaming all what's happened to me and societal beauty standards being forced upon me, I decided it was truly up to me to get better and no one else. I got therapy, began to dress in ways that made me happy, get more exercise, learn to eat healthier, control myself while I eat, etc.. and now I'm getting better.

Today I felt amazing doing yoga. It felt like the insecurities were lifted off of me because yoga shows me the cool things my body can do, and I don't have to feel sorry for myself.

    Yoga Teachings and Monetizing?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 07:02 PM PDT

What are everyone's thoughts on yogis monetizing their images in certain asanas? We see it happen on instagram, taking ad campaigns by big brands and lately on OnlyFans. Why is it that it is generally acceptable to post asanas/poses/promote classes on IG but when it is on OnlyFans there is a stigma of it being against the teachings we learn in Yoga?

    30-60 minutes 1x per week <-or-> 5-10 minutes 1x per day?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 11:32 AM PDT

I've taken a few yoga classes over the years but I still consider myself fairly new to yoga. I want to start a regular practice but due to time constraints I can only afford 30-60 minutes per week and I would like to know how best to allocate that time.

I prefer every day because I believe it will be more likely to become a long term habit, but my suspicion is that a longer session may provide more "bang for the buck" because my body needs to "warm up" before seeing some real benefit. Is there any truth to this?

My main goals are to develop a lifelong habit that will improve focus, improve my posture and joint problems as I age (I'm a man in my 40s).

Has anyone done training course with Aeroyoga ? Or done any aerial yoga courses ?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 11:49 AM PDT

I've been looking at doing a professional training course to be able to teach flying yoga / aerial yoga you name it...

I wanted to know if anyone has done it with this particular school ? I believe it is spanish ( do they teach in english ? ) . It says it is 200h certified by Alliance yoga but the only down side I see is that I HAVE to use their official swings to be able to teach ? Like if I don't use them... can I say I am officially an aerial yoga teacher ?

Are there any other online schools that gets you a real accreditation ? I would prefer working with the hammock/ swings with the handles instead of a hammock ( though it is longer and stretchier due to the diff fabric )

    Thank you :)

Lower back pain on the left side after I tried a little too hard for proper hasthapadaasana

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 07:54 AM PDT

Anybody else has experienced this? I tried hot and cold compresses and the pain subsided. But today's yoga session has it flared up again.

    Looking for advice. TIA :)

    Home practice

For those who don't take a dedicated class, how many of minutes of yoga do you do at home, do you make it up as you go along, or do you do a guided session through YouTube or the like?
