NEW Evening Yoga Movement! Free 30 day bedtime yoga challenge Posted: 02 Apr 2021 09:28 AM PDT Hey everyone! I run the Yoga with Kassandra YouTube channel and wanted to let you know about my new 30-day yoga challenge. It's completely free and suitable for all levels :) Join me in the Evening Yoga Movement and every night we'll do 15 minutes of yoga to stretch and relax. https://youtu.be/hyFB2QRgXwE Last year I lead hundreds of thousands of people through the Morning Yoga Movement so this year I wanted to offer a counterpart to that experience. The first class was released yesterday but it's never too late to join. Enjoy and I can't wait to practice with you! [link] [comments] |
A rant about being overweight and how yoga has kept me on the right path Posted: 02 Apr 2021 11:37 AM PDT I've been short and slightly overweight my entire life. I've tried exercising, dieting, fasting... I do well for a while, then fall off. I've never been driven long enough to keep it up. My reasoning has always been to be healthier (I feel healthy and fine), to be hotter (I'm married and the least vein person), to fit old clothes (clothes that probably needed to be replaced anyway), to be able to outrun an apocalypse of sorts (I really don't have anything to say about this one; played too much Fallout 😅). My point being, every reason I've had to lose weight hasn't been enough to keep me engaged and keep me disciplined and focused. They've been reasons that, when thought on long enough, weren't "good enough" reasons. I was introduced to yoga last fall and fell in love after the first class. Some poses I know I'd be able to do better without the stubborn belly fat. Since January of this year, I have lost 15-20 pounds and have no plans of stopping. I let myself have a cheat day on Sundays where I can have a little something I've missed. When I use to do that, I'd fall off and make it a weeklong cheat. This is the first time I have been able to stay disciplined, and it's been extremely easy. Yoga has given me something to work towards. It's been worth the fasting, worth the lack of junk food, worth staying disciplined until it became second nature. I feel like with this push, I will become the healthiest I've ever been, and it's all thanks to yoga. I want to be able to do the complex poses some day, so I will keep going and slowly accomplish everything I can within my yoga practice, and it will shine through everyday as a blessing. At first I wanted to be better for yoga, but now I realize I want to be better for myself; yoga just keeps reminding me it will all be worth it once I get there. Namaste 🌱 [link] [comments] |

Advice on how to get back on track? Posted: 02 Apr 2021 06:15 AM PDT I've been practicing yoga for a while, regularly (basically everyday), it was a moment of calm and my place of healing (especially on bad days, it was therapeutic). However, my depression has been worsening lately and I've lost my flow, started skipping practices and now stopped altogether since 3 months... I feel very unmotivated, because what once used to feel amazing now feels like it lost its colour, just like everything else, almost like I lost one of my "safe spaces"... And practicing doesn't help me manage the pain anymore like it used to. But I want to get back to practice, because I know it is good to my body and soul, I miss it so much... Did someone have a similar experience or has some advice to give? [link] [comments] |

Anyone else struggle with beginner flows? Posted: 02 Apr 2021 03:50 PM PDT I used to do yoga daily. I was stronger but underweight. I had to stop for a while to restore my mental and physical health. This was a couple of years ago. I'm now more weight restored. I'm returning to yoga, but I'm back at the beginning. I can hinge at the hips, especially when in staff pose, I have to bend my knees to touch my toes. I am stiff and weak. Downward dog hurts, chatarunga is impossible. My arms shake and give out. I attempted to do a 45 minute flow yesterday. By 15 mins I was out of breathe, arms shaking. So now I've decided to start with 10 mins beginner yoga, then 40 mins of yin yoga. I'm the person that finds yoga with Adrienne difficult. I'm wondering if there are others out there that are finding the same difficulty? I use the down dog app, on the beginner setting. I've had to slow the speed down for the full practice. I do have a question about timing my practice. I've read you should do yoga on an empty belly, is that true? [link] [comments] |
Favorite Free Social Media Handstand Workouts/Tutorials/Guides? Posted: 02 Apr 2021 06:26 PM PDT I'm trying to clean up my handstands and was wondering if ppl had particular workouts/tutorials on youtube/social media that they found helpful. Free is best:) Any help would be much appreciated! For context: I can hold it for probably 15 seconds best, but it's inconsistent. I've also been told my form is terrible. [link] [comments] |
Back problem leaving me worried Posted: 02 Apr 2021 11:27 AM PDT So basically when im doing child's pose and resting my head to the mat like instructed if I relax everything and breath out I can feel a pop in my middle to upper back like something is seperating, it keeps happening more and more it isn't painful but it feels like the discs are pulling apart with a crrr sensation, almost like the discs are compressing and decompressing over and over should I get this checked out because it feels like something is really moving in my spine [link] [comments] |
Seeking advice - knee sensitivity after an extended period of time in pigeon pose. Posted: 02 Apr 2021 08:53 AM PDT Hello fellow yogis! Been a longtime Reddit reader and upvoter; however, this marks my first official post. So, many thanks to anyone who reads + responds to my dilemma. TL;DR: Right MCL (I think) sensitivity days after Yin class due to lengthy pigeon hold. Any advice or stretches that can help? Never had this happen before. I would consider myself an intermediate yogi from a skill standpoint and have never had an issue with pain resulting from my practice. On Wednesday I took a Yin class that called for 3-4 minutes in pigeon pose per side - NBD, I can normally take this like a champ. Well, for the last two days I've been experiencing some right knee tenderness, which I'm linking to not supporting my knee enough in the pose as my left side is completely fine. I've never had this happen before, and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? If so, what did you do? Were there any stretches that were helpful to alleviate the sensitivity? While it isn't unbearable, I certainly don't want to make matters worse through more rigorous classes or time under tension. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Apr 2021 12:22 AM PDT Despite the pandemic and all, I am now certified and just registed as a YT at Yoga Alliance! Does anyone have tips/suggestions for new teachers like me on what to focus on to be more prepared before I dive into teaching/guiding others (friends and family for now) online and offline? Are you registered with Yoga Alliance, too? How has it been so far? I would love to hear from everyone. Keep safe! [link] [comments] |
Yoga Before and After Weight Loss - Less Difficult/Painful? Posted: 01 Apr 2021 11:14 PM PDT I'd love to know what some people's experiences have been with weight loss and yoga. I am overweight and have not been trying to lose but the thing that finally has me wanting to slim down is how difficult some of the yoga poses are for me. I feel like I'm probably having a tougher time with some moves due to the excess weight I'm carrying. If you're reading this and you started while overweight but are slimmer now, I'd love to know what changes you noticed in your practice. I have some knee pain at times. I had reconstructive hand surgery years back so sometimes being on my wrists for too long is hard but I think it's harder because of my excess weight more so than because of my injury. Anyway, thanks! I'm looking forward to hearing what others' experiences have been. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Apr 2021 01:33 AM PDT No one would ever think to practice in a shala with cigarette smoke around, but it's fairly common to find studios where incents or similar staff is burned (palo santo, oils, etcc... ). However, I'm totally ignorant on the subject from a scientific point of view. Anyone here has a bit more knowledge on this? [link] [comments] |
