    Front thigh flexibility

    Posted: 31 May 2021 06:06 AM PDT

I've been doing some flexibility training with my brother who has very tight leg muscles. We have made good progress, but I can't figure out how to help him improve his front thigh flexibility. When attempting to do a hurdle stretch he cannot move his bent leg to the side at all and says that it feels like the front thigh muscle is very tense and unable to stretch. It surprises me since I thought this pose would mostly be hindered by bad hip flexibility. He can do a full lotus pose though, so I don't suppose that hips could be the problem? Any ideas? We are already doing the classic standing front thigh stretch of course.

Hamstring pop/crack (not what you think)

    Posted: 30 May 2021 05:56 PM PDT

    Hello,

I've had multiple hamstrings injuries in my right leg in the past. I've had consecutive tears/pulls where I've felt a vicious pops in the summer of 2020. A year later I'm still been recovering because hamstring injuries are reoccurring. I'm getting back to my old speed/athletic ability though.

Now, for the past couple months or so I have discovered something odd. A couple times a day, especially when my hamstrings feel tighter, I swing one leg back and keep the opposite leg straight like an RDL, and I can feel a pop/crack.

This is a similar feeling to cracking your knuckles, neck, back, etc. It's become a daily habit to the point where if it doesn't pop/crack I get very frustrated. Does anyone know what this is? I don't feel pain from this, but more satisfaction if anything.

I'm not sure if this is a bad habit or if it's due to hamstring injuries. If it's because of hamstring injuries, then why do BOTH hamstring pop/crack whenever I do this for both legs everyday.

Thank you and I'd love to hear any theories.

Can someone please explain to me like "ELI5" why am I still flexible?

    I don't understand it.

When I was in kindergarten I rolled around, did cartwheels etc. nothing too stretchy.

Starting first grade (6 years old) until I was 14 I learned/practiced/went to Shotokan Karate lessons. The trainer was very strict, we had half an hour of warm up/ stretches, I couldn't name an exercise to save my life, it was basically kissing your knees while your legs are straight, holding your leg by your foot over your head etc and similar stuff. Then I got an humongous knee injury which stopped me from practicing Karate and Basketball (I did them simultaneously during 6-14) .

So after that I never really attended any formal classes of any sport or whatsoever, so I am 29 now, and I haven't done any training, no gym, no Karate, no whatsoever, however I've started jogging about two months ago and while stretching I tried putting my leg behind my head, it worked properly, no pain, no nothing, so I tried the other leg, same thing, So my question is, what he heck? Like how can I be so stretchy after a huge hiatus?

    For Front Splits

If you're stuck at one spot in your front splits and you're pretty close to the ground I highly recommend this video. He talks about "breaking through", you need to break through that one spot if you actually want to get to the floor. You have to keep pushing yourself. (Go to comment section for video)

What classes will help me improve my flexibility the most?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 11:34 AM PDT

    Hi everyone!

I'd love some advice from people who have done one or more of the following classes:

    Yoga

    Pole

    Lyra (aerial hoop)

    Aerial silks

I'm kind of tired bored of working on flexibility by myself so I wanted to try classes to make it more fun. Added bonus is that I'm trying to work more on my upper body strength, so it's all very appealing!

I wasn't completely sold on pole because I'm not too interested in the dance part of it, but I think the hoop and silk dancing is so beautiful so it's more attractive to me. Can anyone share their experience with these different disciplines?

My main constraint is time though. I don't see myself doing this more than once a week (twice if I really like it). I'm fairly physically fit (although my upper body strength isn't great). As for flexibility, I'm probably 3-5 inches off the ground in my front splits, probably a foot+ in middle splits and have virtually no back flexibility (but would like some).

    Thanks in advance !
