| Backbends... Good or bad for people with anterior pelvic tilt? Posted: 15 Jun 2021 02:12 PM PDT I've read a few different ideas about doing backbends with APT. Some people seem to think it's a bad idea/could make it worse and others seem to think it's beneficial. I would have thought that people with APT generally find backbends easier since you need to be in anterior tilt for those kinds of positions anyway... But does that mean we should do them? I personally only have a mild tilt and I do find backbends relatively easy. In fact I'm quite nervous about doing them BECAUSE my lower back seems to bend so much and I'm worried about overdoing it. My APT always feels slightly worse immediately after attempting backbends too - like my lower back is curved more when I stand naturally again. It feels almost as if there is more pressure in my lower back and I'm pretty sure that's not a good thing. So - should I continue attempting backbends or not? And if so, does anyone have any tips on protecting the lower back? [link] [comments] |
| Reading Suggestions for the Eightfold Path? Posted: 15 Jun 2021 11:06 AM PDT Hello! I've been studying and practicing yoga for a couple of years now, and have begun to explore it as it relates to meditation and ayurvedic studies. I know that the eight limbs seems to be a central way of talking about these, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any reading suggestions that could allow me to explore this more in depth? Thanks! | How/what made you get passionate about yoga? Posted: 15 Jun 2021 07:07 AM PDT Hey there, F24, Long time athlete; never-practiced yoga. I've seriously always wanted to get into yoga. There's something about the idea of waking up 30 minutes earlier to do some yoga that seems so peaceful and amazing to me. But for some reason I feel like I have no idea where to start and I just sleep in instead. If fallen victim to going to bed thinking "yoga in the morning!!! Woot" Then 7:20am comes and it's instantly "how GOOD would that extra 30 mins of sleep feel though" Has anything helped you stick with yoga when you were BRAND new to it? Any apps? Are there specific types of yoga? What's your story?? Thanks!! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 Jun 2021 01:07 PM PDT Hey guys. So I was hitting my little vinyassa the other day, and I was kinda rushing and didn't stretch beforehand (usually not a problem, but also not smart, I know). When I went from tree pose into warrior 3 I heard this sound like firecrackers popping and I had an almost orgasmic feeling in my leg that ran up my back and then I collapsed. It kind of felt like I stretched or activated a muscle I hadn't ever stretched before. I could still walk around, but my right leg has been sore as fuck for like a week now (it's gradually getting better) and it's been hard to do my normal routine. I'm not hurt, there's no bruising, and I'm just doing lots of stretches for my hamstring everyday. I'm fine. But I'm curious if anyone know what muscle or tendon or whatever I tweaked....the soreness is primarily on the back of my inner thigh just below my butt. Feels like a real deep tissue muscle when I massage it....the strange part was the orgasmic type sensation that happened with the initial pops. Any ideas of what happened? [link] [comments] |
| Safe to do hot yoga twice in a day? Posted: 15 Jun 2021 07:53 AM PDT Hey all, I have 2 hot yoga sessions for tonight back to back (each are 75 minutes with a 30 minute break in-between). Is it safe? I'm not really familiar with hot yoga and usually only do power yoga. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 Jun 2021 09:33 AM PDT Wanted to get your advice about this, because it's a bit confusing, when and how often is enough and good and not too much? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 15 Jun 2021 08:24 AM PDT My supine spinal stretch is really tight on one side, and borderline painful. Any advice or other stretches to help my mid-back on this side? [link] [comments] |
| Emotional Release with Kettlebell Swings Posted: 14 Jun 2021 11:26 PM PDT Does anyone get this? For this community - maybe not from Kettlebells, but maybe from hip openers. I've seen people cry in yoga class from hip openers. I've seen some beautiful releases. I recently started doing kettlebells swings for the 1st time ever. I went from 40lbs w/ (2) hands to 40lbs with one hand and now 2x 40lb KBs with two hands of course. The hip thrust and yang nature of the exercise (breath in down and exhale with force going up) is what makes me think this. Your 2nd chakra is orange. It is where emotions are stored. It's a few fingers down from your belly button. The hips/pelvis are associated with it. We store our emotions there. Now this could be fatigue, lactic acid build up for daily 100 swings (7) days a week, and/or actual emotion release from explosive hip stimulation, but rough emotions come up for me. Dark emotions. I think it's positive in the long term. I just wonder if anyone else gets this? | New to yoga and could use some tips Posted: 14 Jun 2021 09:07 PM PDT Hi all, I'm pretty new to yoga and I am having trouble holding high plank (push up postion) for extended periods. I was wondering what excersises I could do to build up the muscles to be able to hold this position for longer periods. Thanks :) [link] [comments] |
| Good smelling yoga mat spray that’s not in a tiny bottle? Posted: 14 Jun 2021 04:03 PM PDT Recently picked up yoga as a great at-home workout. Wife gave me a bottle of yoga mat spray that smelled amazing. It not only cleaned the mat, but the room smelled fresh even after a sweaty 60 minute workout. But it was in a small bottle and I quickly used it up. (It was called Mind Over Lather - Lavender Mint.) It seems like most sprays are sold in small bottles meant to be packed in a yoga mat bag and brought to a studio. And the prices for such little product seem high. Since I'm working out at home and don't need a travel-sized bottle, I'm hoping I can find something that smells just as good as that Mind Over Lather product that I can buy by the gallon. Lavender, mint, eucalyptus, etc. scents all good. I did find something called "Black Diamond Yoga Mat Spray" on Amazon and it's fine for cleaning, but just didn't have the same clean "spa" smell to it. Recommendations highly appreciated.
