| I Completed 60 Days of Meditation for 1 Hour/day and it cut my Anxiety away. I'm Now Making an App. Posted: 25 Jul 2020 05:12 AM PDT I recently completed Naval Ravikant's recommended 60 days of meditation for 1 hour per day. I tried meditating before this for around 20/30 mins but never really felt that much benefit. So I started doing 1 hr. I tweeted about each day which kept me accountable and committed each day. At first it was very difficult to sit still for that long. But after the first week, I started to truly realise that all of my problems were in my own head. I was perceiving things poorly, from past images that I'd clung onto. Reading wisdom from the main 3 stoic philosophers, Jiddu Krishnamurti and Naval Ravikant each day also helped to rewire my mind, giving me useful stuff to meditate on. I now realise that living in the past causes depression and living in the future causes anxiety. Discovering for myself that this is true makes me almost unconsciously stay present - and I feel much better for it. I am currently learning to code and as a practice project I'm making a meditation app that I plan on using myself. It's going to be based on doing 60 days of meditation, 1 hr/day. At the beginning, only day 1 is unlocked. After meditating for a full hour, the next day is unlocked. Each day has some advice/quotes from the philosophers I mentioned before. If anybody is interested in using this, I'd be happy to put it on the app store? :) [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 25 Jul 2020 11:25 AM PDT We all hold onto a ton of old experiences in our head. It can be easy to give in to the temptation of self-loathing because of this. Don't forget to forgive youself today for whatever it is you're still holding onto. A mind that is present has no time for the regrets of the past. Just writing this to remind all of you that it's okay to not be perfect all the time <3 [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 25 Jul 2020 09:16 PM PDT Boring af, but I started a 365 day challenge for meditation. I need to put it somewhere, so just ignore me. Oh, and do not be mean. If you are more enlightened than I am, I really don't care. If you want to join me, I would be honored and ecstatic. Metta. [link] [comments] |
| Can I use meditation to increase aggression? Posted: 25 Jul 2020 11:34 PM PDT Hey folks, I've been a bit hesitant to start meditating, I can definitely see how some aspects of it like concentration and quieting racing thoughts could be helpful but I've constantly heard that it reduces aggression and anger. Now, I'm a fighter, and while obviously not all fighters find those supposedly negative emotions helpful, I definitely do, so: can I use meditation to increase aggression and if so how would I go about it? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
| Meditation For Beginners - Set The Place (1) Posted: 25 Jul 2020 06:46 PM PDT A clean mind need a clean space to be. You must be confortable with light, temperature, noises, smells, etc because your senses get very sensitive. It is said that the lotus flower which grows in muddy water represents the enlightened spirit geting energy for dirt. Well, we are a few lifes away from that. Don´t worry if you don´t have a buddhist temple at home. Put everything in their places, sweep the floor a bit and sit. Just that. 5 minutes everyday sitting in a confortable chair trying to do nothing for 3 weeks. I´m helping for free. [link] [comments] |
| What I have learned as I continue to heal. Posted: 25 Jul 2020 01:53 PM PDT By heal I mean heal from childhood trauma left unprocessed and life long habits of depression and anxiety. I think one of the primary things I have learned is that suffering is as much a learned behavior and much more about meta emotions than about base feelings. I am now in a happier place than I have been in quite a while and from this vantage I can see some truths to my life. The "feeling" that I am worthless, unloved, unlovable, hopeless, pathetic, lost, alone. None of these actually are feelings, they are judgments about situations, thoughts, conclusions etc, built upon base lower level feelings. They hold no truth value in of themselves. The base feelings are "true" in as much as any feeling is true. Our feelings are the very definition of valid. But we have a habit of conflating thoughts and feelings. Perhaps because we have an unconcious understanding of the validity of our feelings we assume that any thoughts that follow from them must be just as valid. But this doesn't actually often hold true in practise. So when one feels "bad" it's important to disect what is going on. We start with a base feeling. I feel sad, lonely, afraid, angry, hurt. These are the base emotions. And emotions are just physiological responses in the body. Your chest hurts, your muscles are heavy, there is a lump in your throat, your heart rate increases, your skin feels cold and clammy, you are short of breath. It becomes difficult to think, there is a sensation of brain fog. The world seems to contract, your senses are dulled. The world telescopes as if you are seeing it through a long dark tunnel. All of these are physiological. And then our brain steps in and tries to make sense of these feelings. And that is where we get in trouble. The feelings remind us of past situations, traumas, they reinforce a story in our head about ourslves and the world. Whatever that story is. I'm worthless, I'm a loser, people hate me, this is so unfair, why does everyone else do better... etc etc. It is all a fabrication. This doesn't mean these stories don't serve a useful purpose at some point. Narratives and stories are vital for us to try to make sense of the world around us and how we fit into the bigger picture. But they don't necessarily hold any more truth value than the fairytales told to you as a child. And likewise those fairytales were never meant to be believed in either. They were metaphors and parables told to teach lessons. Similarly with our own internal stories it's possible to learn different lessons from the stories we construct about ourslves. We can choose to believe we are worthless, unloved, bad people. Or the very same emotions and life events can be seen through the lens of compassion to tell the story of a sensitive, lonely, caring, deeply feeling, hurting, but strong individual. A lot of it has to do with how we engage our emotions. What meta emotions do we feel about feeling fear, sadness, pain, hurt? Do we feel resentment, anger, shame, bitterness, sadness about feeling these things? Well that is a path to hating ones self. One I have walked too long and am in the process of getting off. Or do you feel compassion, love, strength, perhaps even some degree of pride in being able to weather these feelings? Oh yes I'm hurting right now. Oh yes I'm feeling very anxious right now. Oh yes this is fear. Oh yes there is that hurt child. Oh yes this can be. It is not comfortable but then it does not have to be. If I ran a marathon, that too would not be comfortable. | Am I the only one who never has any of the revelations posted here? Posted: 25 Jul 2020 07:10 PM PDT Hey everyone! Yesterday marked my 60th consecutive day of meditating (averaging around 30 minutes a day sometimes more) and I am yet to have any "revelations" that people post about here. I started meditation to help with my anxiety and I have definitely improved in that regard but like I said, i've never had any revelations about life like I see posted here. Just wondering if anyone else feels the same or has any advice? [link] [comments] |

| {{{ == Meditation is Misunderstood == }}} Posted: 25 Jul 2020 10:03 PM PDT Okey so this might not resonate with everyone. Especially, to those who think of Meditation as an 'Escape Plan' from the Reality we live in. Backstory: I started meditating 3 years ago. Why? Because...F*cked up childhood, Narcissist father, Crying mother, Smoking/drinking, 3 failed relationships, No job, 12 failed youtube channels, suicidal thoughts, anxiety (I'm not kidding. It's my story). Now, for a person who doesn't seem to understand why all of this is happening to him. He jumps right into Meditation. I'm talking 2000 +hours of Self Inquiry over 3 years. Here is what i've Learned so far: You think you are Person A. But you want to be Person B. Person A starts Meditating. Person B feels threatened. Person A is You. Person B is your Pain Body/Ego. Person A is a Thought. Person B is also a Thought. They say, it's all MAYA..THE ILLUSION. I get it now... You want Enlightenment, is a Thought. You are Suffering, is also a Thought. You will End the Misery, is a Thought. You dissolved the Ego, is also a Thought. You want to be Rich, is a Thought. You've made it finally, will also be a Thought. PERIOD!!!! MIND IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. IT'S YOUR SERVANT. MIND IS NOT YOUR BRAIN. MIND IS THE CONTENT INSIDE THE BRAIN. ((UNSUBSCRIBE TO YOUR MIND)) •••||| Don't believe everything the mind says ||||••• (If you are Serious about this. I can teach you for Free) Just Message me. Bye! [link] [comments] |
| Meditation is like an inner bath Posted: 25 Jul 2020 10:25 PM PDT Not doing #meditation means not listening to life, hence the anger, frustration and depression. Meditation is an inner bath that freshens up one washing away anything negative. It changes the gestalt. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 26 Jul 2020 12:17 AM PDT Sometimes, I end up laughing during one of my meditation sessions (alone). I wonder why this is? Is it because meditation releases endorphins or helps increase dopamine? Or maybe a simpler reason ? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 25 Jul 2020 06:53 PM PDT Before I started meditating life was a blur. I never felt in control of myself and would succumb to simple addictions like food, gaming, tv and the hours, days, weeks and eventually years passed by like that. I never questioned if this type of existence was beneficial for me - I just considered it to be the normal state of things. Like so many I was a slave. I have been meditating seriously 40 minutes a day (20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening) for about 9 months now and let me tell you what a boon it has been. It has taught me, above all else, the value of presence. In fact, I would argue that presence is better than happiness. To be present is to not have any desires - you are simply engaged with whatever is in front of you at the moment. It is neither positive or negative. It just is. I finally feel like I am in control of my emotions, thoughts and decisions. I make decisions that benefit me. I don't cave to subconscious desires as much anymore (although I admit I'm still grappling with phone addiction). Before I grab a piece of junk food, before I watch porn, before I say something I shouldn't - meditation has granted me the ability to catch myself before I do the detrimental action and instead I decide to do something else. It's like time has slowed down and there is now an extra split second between my thoughts and actions where I can pause and decide if what I'm about to do should really be done. Meditation has saved me at work, in my relationships, in nearly every aspect of my life. To anyone struggling in life I would say to look to meditation first. I truly believe that only good can come from it, and once you've got a good meditation routine down you will start changing other aspects of your life for the better. I believe that meditation should be taught in school. Imagine how much better society would function if everyone learned how to meditate. Imagine all the good that could happen. Look at all the people in the world attempting to assert control over others. Look at the destruction it has caused. To control oneself is the greatest power imaginable. [link] [comments] |
| i’m new to reddit... but i wanted to share this :)! Posted: 25 Jul 2020 07:41 PM PDT hey y'all, i'm tati. ever since march (when covid-19 started to affect all of our lives drastically) my mental health had been all over the place. i was worried about having no money, and no job. i was also worried about not being able to find a job, and i couldn't find one for months! in around may i started watching this girl on youtube who smokes weed (lmao) and she's very big on meditation and yoga. seeing her be so excited about her daily routine made me want to try out meditation. i wasn't really sure where to start so about two weeks ago i looked up a tutorial on youtube and decided to try it out! now, it may seem like i'm going nowhere with this but uh, as SOON as i started meditating, and i mean like, after meditating ONCE, i got called for a job interview the next morning! i had applied to at least 20 jobs since march and no one reached out to me about an interview, so obviously i was amazed! i don't know if it was because i was thinking positive while meditating, or if it was because during the meditating i was manifesting, but i got the job! it's done nothing but bless me ever since i started. i love it here!!! (also if you come across this and you read everything, tell me some meditation tips please! <3) [link] [comments] |

| Meditating on Adderall, is it “cheating”? Posted: 25 Jul 2020 09:04 AM PDT hi friends :) i have ADHD and i take 10mg of Adderall daily. i just had one of my best meditations yet, but i took my pill beforehand. usually i take it after my morning routine (which includes meditating). i know there are no rules to meditating but there are recommended guidelines to it. this meditation i just had while on Adderall was wonderful. i was able to focus on my breathing better and i felt so good about myself during and after. i made it to 20 minutes for the first time too! but i feel conflicted if this is ok since it is a medication meant to help you focus. any other fellow ADHDers deal with this too? ❤️ [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 25 Jul 2020 03:21 PM PDT I used to get bad migranes occasionally and once triggered it lasted for the whole day. I started doing meditations 3 months ago and wanted to put in practice once my migrain appeared again. This afternoon, this bad migrain came up and it was bad timing because I had to see some people. I wanted to test my 3 months of practice so I meditated in a quite place while having this bad migrain and I was amazed !!! My migrain nit only went away but I was way more sharper than normal within 20 minutes. I was mindblown by this expeince because I have tried drugs in the past and nothing helped. I am so grateful. | Posted: 25 Jul 2020 09:59 PM PDT So I've been seeing a lot of studies and articles that mindfulness could actually make someone more resilient in the face of tough obstacles. Do you guys believe this to be true or maybe a little exaggerated ? Do you think mindfulness alone could make someone really resilient or would they need a life philosophy to aid them ? | Your thoughts on visions during meditation? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:22 AM PDT I have strong visual experiences during meditation. They are often accompanied by a sense of clarity/understanding/connection. They range from laser like outlines of things to full experiences including smell, touch, and sound. When I google information about visions during mediation, it all seems a bit subjective and pedantic. Throughout spiritual awakening/growth, I am continuously baffled by the idea that there is a universal truth to spiritual experiences. So often, meditation seems no different than any dogmatic religion- how to open your third eye, what Sanskrit word refers to what, what vision means you've transcended. I'm just curious what others experience visually, what the visions mean to you, and whether you buy into all the rules from the many self proclaimed pundits... [link] [comments] |

| Meditating to open and balance chakras with Aphantasia, pls help!!! Posted: 25 Jul 2020 06:22 PM PDT Meditating to open and balance chakras with Aphantasia, help! So I just recently found out that people can actually conjure an image in their minds through visualization. To be honest I always kinda though visualization was merely thinking about something and identifying aspects about what you're supposed to be visualizing but I don't actually have the ability to see what I'm supposed to be visualizing. I did more research and found out what I experience is Aphantasia. This begs the question, how can I meditate with the intent of opening and balancing my chakras if I cannot visualize them? I've been very frustrated focusing on trying to visualize them, and it's gotten discouraging. Now that I've realized I can't visualize, I'm trying to find other ways to work with my chakras through meditation. Can anyone give me some insight? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
| Hard to breathe while meditating - tips? Posted: 25 Jul 2020 06:16 PM PDT Hi all. I am just getting into meditation but I have two conditions: pectus exacavatum (where my rib cage is caved in) and mild scoliosis. Because of this, it's hard to get a good breath when maintaining good posture. I find that getting a good wall to lean on helps but I was wondering if anyone with similar conditions knew a better way to deal with this. Or if anyone had any good ideas. Thanks in advanced!
