What's the point of headstands? Posted: 25 Jul 2020 08:03 AM PDT I do some basic yoga, nothing fancy, but I fail to understand the benefit of turning on your head and possibly putting too much weight on your neck muscles. A lot of the posts I see online feature these type of poses and seem a bit showy to me, so I often worry that person is going to hurt themselves. Is there something I'm misunderstanding or not seeing? [link] [comments]
A good book to understand the yoga lifestyle for a complete beginner Posted: 25 Jul 2020 01:22 PM PDT Hello. I am brand new to yoga. I have practiced meditation before and enjoy the incorporation of mindfulness and peace in my daily life. I would like to find a good book that goes into more than just routines and poses, although I also need to learn those as well of course. I would like to really get a deep dive into the yoga lifestyle and understand what it's all about. Please keep in mind I am a complete beginner, I know nothing really other than a few poses I don't know the name of. Thanks guys :) [link] [comments]
Any bilingual yogis out there? Posted: 25 Jul 2020 10:49 AM PDT Hi everyone! I'm planning a big move from the US to Spain in a couple months and it just recently occurred to me that I will be practicing yoga in Spanish if/when I join a studio over there. Although I'm very comfortable with Spanish, I've realized that I might have a hard time following cues and learning the names of so many poses in a different language. Has anyone experienced the adjustment to practicing in a different language? How did it go? Any insight is much appreciated!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jul 2020 05:20 PM PDT I've been a hobbyist leatherworker for about 10 years or so. It is an art form and I enjoy doing carvings and my way to pay for this expensive hobby is a small dog collar shop online and at craft fairs. I enjoy making inspired collars but I have recently found yoga, which I am still very new to. In March I first started doing some of the sadhana from Sadhguru with amazing results. I had a glimpse, completely cured long time PTSD, and now am wanting to move forward. I am looking at the food I eat and will be switching to high pranic foods and in doing so giving up meat. Again, I am learning and looking for guidance here if this is wrong. I found the source of my leather and it is a byproduct of the meat industry. Would this be saving the leather from waste? Also, what are your thoughts on how wearing leather effects your subtle body? [link] [comments]

Some ideas on how to add weights/strength to my practice. Posted: 25 Jul 2020 01:49 PM PDT I'm working on dynamic core movements for my next class with weights, and Crowe (my dog) is working on being in the room with someone who is moving around without trying to jump on them, lick, or bite their moving limbs. He is learning how to sit and watch...does anyone else have that problem with their pets while they are trying to practice? AND I'm loving these movements with the 10 lb plate. You could also do them without weight or with a dumbbell, or a big jug of water. I love the strength and mobility, and just all the feelings that happen through my abs, ribs, spine, and trunk muscles. Thought I'd share and see if anyone else had explored some of these options themselves? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jul 2020 02:27 AM PDT Hi guys i was just wondering about the injuries you've had from yoga. Currently when I breathe in deep it aches on my back on the upper left side. Also aches on like the 5th disc from the bottom of my spine when bending forward or bacck. I don't actually know what I did wrong to strain it though. Has anyone had similar issues ? Thanks 😁 [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Jul 2020 11:07 PM PDT I would like to start training headstands. Would it be better to practice a tripod stand or a triangle stand? Eventually I want to move to forearm and handstands. (I can hold the triangle stand up against a wall or with an assistant, and am practicing my balance and lifting the legs rather than with a kick) [link] [comments]
| Looking for regular users of Daily Yoga app Posted: 24 Jul 2020 07:54 PM PDT Hi, I'm looking for other regular users of the Daily Yoga app. Could you please share your favorite and least favorite classes and/or instructors on the app? There are so many options there, I've tried a fair bit and some are amazing while some are disappointing/awkward. Please share your experiences / we could even come up with a master list? Thank you!
