Posted: 24 Jun 2021 01:26 PM PDT Does anyone have tips for teaching an accessible all-ages outdoor yoga class? I'm finding it a bit challenging, since some people have props, some don't. The age ranges may vary greatly and with that comes differences in flexibility, hearing, balance and strength. And then you have the newbies and more experienced yogi's. And I'm also wondering about good mats to use on uneven ground. I tend to use my natural rubber mat indoors but I've read this is a no-no since they degrade in the sunlight. [link] [comments] |
Does running slow down yoga progress? Posted: 24 Jun 2021 05:05 PM PDT If my goal is to get very flexible and heal my body . Do you think running hinders my yoga results ? Do you think running makes you tighter ? [link] [comments] |

What’s worse running or jiu jitsu ? Posted: 24 Jun 2021 04:27 PM PDT I have a honest question . Which is worse for you running or jiu jitsu ? I'm in great shape , and I absolutely love yoga ! But I'm looking for something to pair with it , something competitive. I've been running for the past couple months and it's been messing up my hips a bit. My main goal is to build a strong flexible body, that's why I do yoga everyday. so back tracking and getting less flexible from running frustrates me . My fear is running or jiu jitsu ruining my yoga progress [link] [comments] |
“Beginner” having trouble with yoga…would appreciate some help. Posted: 24 Jun 2021 09:01 AM PDT I would consider myself to be in very good shape. Im 33 and I've worked out 3-5x per week for at least 20 years. I played a lot of team sports growing up and spent a lot of time in the weight room, as I got older that transitioned into jiu jitsu/grappling, HIIT training, running etc. I've done yoga periodically but never took it seriously or practiced on a regular basis…just attended a class here and there or did some YouTube lessons and have done some of the DDP Yoga series. Basically, yoga has always made me feel horrible. Every time I do a few yoga classes within a week or so I feel incredibly sore in my joints, stiff and generally immobile and unathletic. This is the opposite of how nearly every other method of exercise makes me feel. Obviously I am adapted to these other exercises and I'm aware any new stressor can make your body feel beat up. It just be that I have the wrong idea of yoga, as like a lot of people I think of it as being "restorative" but I feel anything but. I did a few 20 minute sessions earlier in the week and right now my back feels awful, my joints and connective tissue feel tight and creaky. I feel like an old man. Does this sound normal? Am I being a baby or doing something wrong? Should I stick with it to allow my body to adapt. I tell others when getting into exercise that it could take up to 2 months for your body adapt and "feel good", do I need to just take my own advice? [link] [comments] |

I started regular hot yoga classes in February and something weird has been happening since Posted: 24 Jun 2021 08:01 AM PDT (As a disclaimer, I'm seeing a doctor in order to figure out what is going on with me. A couple of weeks ago, I completed an A1C test, along with full panel blood tests, which all came out normal (a1c was 4.7). Recently, within the last two or three months, I began experiencing what seems to me to be diabetic symptoms. I'll wake up in the middle of the night starving, despite eating a large, healthy dinner. If I go to the kitchen and eat two 'Ratio Keto' yogurts (totaling about 400 cals), I'll feel a lot better. After eating any amount of sugar, I crash hard and generally feel terrible. I sweat a lot more easily throughout the day. Mainly, I: -crash at night while sleeping and wake up feeling terrible / starving. Protein / fat seems to fix the issue. -I feel very lethargic during the day -Feel hungry all of the time And this isn't waking up, just feeling normal hunger. This is the type of feeling where you immediately know something is wrong. It's not only a feeling of hunger in my stomach. It's feeling as if my blood sugar or glucose or sodium or something levels (just throwing out terms here because I'm not medically educated) are way off and my body is in pain because of it. The feeling is very uncomfortable. After drinking a coke and eating some reese's and snicker's about a month ago, I almost went to the hospital because I felt like I was going into shock. Now, being that I joined a hot yoga studio in February and that is the first time I noticed myself needing to wake up in the middle of the night to eat, I believe there may be a connection. I remember my first few weeks with the studio, waking up in the middle of the night with my stomach growling, feeling disbelief because that had never happened before. The only time I ever experienced somewhat similar symptoms, minus the needing to eat constantly, was in high school. I was 17 at the time and got heavily into road cycling. Groups of us would ride 40 - 60 miles at a time. And this is in Florida where temperatures get very high (plus humidity). I wouldn't wake up hungry, but I would get hot flashes and night sweats, despite being skinny and otherwise very healthy. I never saw a doctor, figuring it would go away. In my mind, I am connecting the two. Something, and I can't put my finger on it, seems similar about how my body is responding to the hot yoga and how it handled the cycling in high school. Maybe my body is having a hard time handling the exertion combined with the heat? I'm seeing the doctor again July 6 and I will bring all of this up with them then. Has anyone experienced weird symptoms from hot yoga? Any idea on how to treat it? Again, I'll bring all of this up with my doctor July 6th. Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Pain/tightness in the back of the knee? Posted: 24 Jun 2021 06:24 AM PDT When I sit in some positions where my legs are bent I get a tightness in the area directly behind my knee (at the back). It doesn't feel the same as muscle tightness, it's almost as if my knee is stuck in some way? The main example of when this happens is butterfly pose. It stops me from leaning forward towards the ground because although my hips are flexible enough, my knees don't allow it. What could be the problem here and how do I work on it? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jun 2021 06:01 AM PDT Recently noticed that doing yoga in nature seems to dramatically increase the mental effect of poses. For example beach yoga in the morning feels amazing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2021 04:17 AM PDT Hi, everyone! I'm sorry if this is not the right place to ask this, or if this has been asked before, though I have not found any information from my basic searches. In 2017, I had one of the most empowering, restoring, and grounding experiences of my life and think about it every day since. I will try my best to be as descriptive as possible in hopes that someone may know exactly what kind of yoga or practice I was involved in as I long to do it again. The instructor had the group warm up through some dynamic stretches and practicing expressing oneself/acting, though my memory is foggy on exactly what that entails. There was music predetermined that encompassed different emotions which were to guide our journey. We were instructed to let the music move through us, which notably changed how we moved based on the chosen song. Some of the emotions we focused on were angry, excited, anxious, though again my memory is foggy on the specifics. As a group we were encouraged to close our eyes and trust that the flow of oneself contributes to the flow of the group. If anyone bumped into each other, it was gentle and with intention. It was the most beautiful experience of my life and while I have always been interested in yoga and expression focused movement, this was the catalyst for me being who I am today. Does anyone here happen to have any idea what the type of yoga is called, or the theory behind it? Any and all information is greatly appreciated. And again, I apologize if this has been answered or if this is not the correct page. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jun 2021 03:06 AM PDT Hello! What is the origin of the story told by Sadhguru in this story about a Kalpavriksha As Sadhguru tells the story, the man sits under the tree and a wishes for food, then drink, when these are miraculously delivered he becomes paranoid and imagines that ghosts are responsible for this and that they will come and attack him~ then of course ghosts appear and kill him Is this story from a specific text or scripture that I could find more information on? Posted: 23 Jun 2021 05:55 AM PDT I have recently gotten into taking my yoga outside. It's a wonderful feeling in the morning, the backyard, the birds, no sounds...it's great. The problem? I don't know enough sequences to guide my own practice. If I take my phone and use a you tube video or something I would missing the wonderful quiet. Does anyone have any ideas on how this could be done? I thought about writing out a sequence on a sheet of paper, weight it down with a rock...does anyone else have any ideas? [link] [comments] |
