Did yoga for the first time in two months Posted: 14 Jun 2021 02:15 PM PDT And I feel really good. I've missed my practice, but executive dysfunction and depression kept getting in the way. I did it today, I can do it tomorrow! One day at a time, and next thing I know, I'll be celebrating a month. [link] [comments]

Are we supposed to hold our belly/stomach in? Posted: 14 Jun 2021 06:08 PM PDT So, this doubt occurred to me yesterday when I was seriously doing some flexibility poses. I was wondering whether we have to hold our belly/stomach-in in whatever poses we do? Could anyone please clarify? IDK I might be doing all the poses wrong 😅 And also, I'm really struggling with the core engagement. Any tips on how to do about it? Thank you 😃 [link] [comments]
Yoga, depression and not wanting to be seen Posted: 13 Jun 2021 10:46 PM PDT Hi All, I love yoga, but can't seem to actually practice. I look online at different types yet battle myself with physically doing it. I am on antidepressants and just upped the dose thinking that would help. Please do not tell me to stop my meds. It's like a self sabotage thing and I really feel like I am getting shyer with age. Any tips appreciated, thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jun 2021 12:44 PM PDT Hey all, one of my favourite musicians Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith released an album last year called The Mosaic of Transformation which features her doing a pretty nifty pose on the cover. Since it came out I've wondered what the name of the pose is, looks like a variation on a scorpion pose, but it probably has a name of its own. Does anyone know what it's called? Also - if you haven't checked out her music I highly recommend you do, it puts me in a state not unlike a deep yoga practice. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jun 2021 06:44 AM PDT I've been doing yoga on and off for three years now and have been doing yoga with Adriene's videos for about 160 days straight (yay me!) though I need advice. I feel like I just can't relax my shoulders down (traps) they've been tight for as long as I can remember and it's unbearable to think that I am so used to it. For example, i feel very tight between ears and shoulders in cat cow. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jun 2021 04:59 AM PDT Dear Yoginis, I want to know reasons why yoga might be harder for women. I could also list some things (I assume and know) that are problematic for women, but I'd love to give the microphone over to our female friends. So what about a woman that starts off with yoga? Blessings - Marcel PS: this is not about if yoga is harder for women or for men - it's very much situational and individual. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jun 2021 08:40 AM PDT I recently realized that I tend to chest breathe as well as mouth breath during sleep. I catch myself not breathing or fully breathing most of the time. Every time I notice it makes me feel abnormal and I kinda freak out. Also when working out or practicing yoga I can't control my breath and core, that I lose patience with myself. But the hardest obstacle that's been really bugging me is my quality of sleep. it's piss poor, I wake up tired. I know it's the way I breathe because I notice my breaths are reallllly short as I fall asleep. My brain signaling is definitely off? How can I master breathing right! [link] [comments]
Stuck and not progressing in some poses Posted: 14 Jun 2021 08:34 AM PDT I'm a mid40s guy. I have been practicing yoga for about 5 days a week for a year and a half using an online platform with 1-1 live instruction from yoga teachers. Initially, I found the progress was linear over time for the first year. For the last 6 months, while things have improved - my sense is the pace of improvement has reduced drastically and I'm hitting a plateau. Am just not progressing much at all in some of the poses (kakasana, warrior 3 on the left leg, utthita hasta padangusthasana, etc). I'm not sure if the teacher is not able to guide me effectively OR it's just a physical body limitation from my end. This is frustrating to me, to keep practicing and not make improvements. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Jun 2021 11:22 PM PDT I (f 23) hated sports for as long as I can remember, school made me feel really terrible about it every time. Yoga was the first thing I was able to dedicate to for longer than 2 sessions. I took a break because my finals messed with my whole schedule and finally did a session again today and I love it! But my question is: How are your experiences with yoga as a gateway to like more sports? I wanna do yoga regularly but I also want to get into the habit of doing other workouts in oder to lose a little bit of weight. Anyone any suggestions? [link] [comments]
