Yoga is the best thing that I've started and done for myself... Although, it's bittersweet... Posted: 22 Jul 2021 06:49 AM PDT Yoga has genuinely been the best thing that I've started in my life and done consistently. I just finished a 90 minute power yoga session and this wave of peace came over me and I've realised how amazing yoga is. It's stopped me from drinking alcohol, it's helped me get into better shape mentally and physically and it's also actually enjoyable for me to do... The bittersweet part is that none of this would have ever happened if Covid-19 didn't happen and if we didn't have to go into lockdown.... At least this came out of it though. Peace to you all, I just felt like I had to get this off of my chest! [link] [comments] |
Consistent yoga practicers: What's the cue that it's time to do your yoga habit? Posted: 22 Jul 2021 04:21 AM PDT Hey all! I like yoga. I can do a 30 day challenge. I found that afterwards though, I couldn't keep it going. I happened to read James Clear's Atomic Habits recently, and realized that I hadn't built a solid cue for when to do yoga, so I hadn't actually built it into my life. It just existed in this grey area of time that was a smosh between working and winding down, when my son was asleep. I've realized that I don't actually have a morning or evening routine, it's just that aforementioned smosh-of-tasks-time. So I thought I may as well ask - you folks who have a solid yoga habit, what's your cue? A time ? A preceding task {make morning tea, yoga}? A location? A feeling? A person? Thanks :) [link] [comments] |
Scalene muscle and hollow body Posted: 22 Jul 2021 04:57 PM PDT I followed B movement academy's video on core compression, and I am definitely feeling it today lol. I notice the front/sides of my neck is sore and after some searching I believe it to be my scalene muscles. I know neck strain is a big concern in all types of body movements, but from what I can find it seems neck strain typically comes from the back of the neck. It makes sense to me that the scalene muscles would be sore as their function is to flex the neck, which happens in hollow body. But I've always been told to avoid any neck pain. I'd like to know if this is normal and safe or if I need to change how I'm holding my head/shoulders. Thanks!! [link] [comments] |
God of Yoga: Krishna or Shiva? Posted: 22 Jul 2021 09:58 AM PDT I recently finished the Bhagavad Gita and Krishna teaches Arjuna about the different yogas (Bhakti, dhyana, etc.) but I've also come across books and websites saying that Shiva is the Patron God of Yoga… what do my fellow yogis think? Any clarification would be a blessing! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Jul 2021 03:51 PM PDT Hi everyone, I was hoping someone might be able to help me find a yoga practice I use to follow all the time on YT years ago. I'm guessing it could be 10 years old. There was a male instructor and he was outside. He first gives a talk about the purpose of yoga and I think he talks about the intention of stretching and relaxing into the stretch. The quality of the video wasn't that great. I think there was a gazebo in the background. He begins the practice by gently swaying his limp arms side to side as he rotates his torso. Not sure if that makes sense but I hope it does. Then he goes into what I believe is sunrise salutation. Anyway this was my absolute favorite yoga routine and it's so difficult to find an instructor I like on YouTube. YT is over saturated with yoga videos and it's impossible to find it, maybe it has been removed. I would also very much appreciate any suggestions for videos on simple, slower yoga routine and I prefer a calm mid to lower ranged voice. I'd like to start my day with a routine again :) thank you for any help. [link] [comments] |

Benefits to booking a YTT directly from a yoga studio in comparison to a third party website? Posted: 22 Jul 2021 10:45 AM PDT (i.e., the Book Yoga Retreats website). Anyone have any good or bad experiences booking a training through Book Yoga Retreat's? Do yoga schools get more money by booking directly through their individual websites? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 21 Jul 2021 08:47 PM PDT Been to 30-50 hot yoga classes and I've heard a decent amount of the expected wuwu but some claims are outlandish, including: Some millions of years ago the Indians blew up themselves in a nuclear blast and only a few survived (conveniently the book she claimed she found this in is like a cockroach, fallout proof) Mark Zuckerberg is a Rockefeller The weird, weird emphasis on water abstinence during class (Edit: she's fine with water but emphasizes taking coordinated sips after a certain amount of poses complete, so you train your brain to not give into desire easily…idk as I type that that just seems ridiculous) Throwing up during class is removal of "bad juju" Etc. Oh well, the hell do I care. If it works it works [link] [comments] |
