[COMP] Mini lesson about FORWARD FOLDS (history and technique) to get to know your yoga deeper. Habit psychology research shows that the more COMPETENT/KNOWLEDGABLE you feel about a health behavior, the more likely you are to maintain it in the long run [Kwasnicka, et al, 2016]

What a difference a new mat makes!

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 10:05 PM PDT

I got into a good yoga routine in the last few months and decided it was finally time to get a new mat since I am getting more serious and my hands have been slipping. I have been using a Gaiam mat that was gifted to me 5 years ago and upgraded to a Jade Harmony mat. WOW. I have never felt more secure on the mat and it feels so much more sturdy when I move.

Scientific research on Kundalini and Samadhi

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 08:19 AM PDT

    Hello fellow yogis.

Does anyone know of a good review of literature on scientific research on kundalini and samadhi?

Both of these are central concepts in yoga/tantra, but when I search for them, I usually find a deluge of "spiritual" articles that obfuscate and confuse more than illuminate. I am looking for something that is a bit more rigorous and scientifically respectable.

I am sure that some of you have the same question and have possibly answered it - I am trying to tap into your wisdom!

    Inguinal Hernia Post Op Yoga

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 12:11 PM PDT

Namaste. I had a laparoscopic surgery to fix in inguinal hernia last friday, the procedure involved me getting an abdominal mesh. I am feeling much better and am eager to return to some light physical practice. I would be so appreciative of some gentle asanas to strengthen my core. I've never been a heavy practitioner of anything other than bhakti yoga, and I've studied a bit of philosophy so I can't do much yet but I'm interested in doing more!

Regardless of how lightly I've practiced yoga over the years, I always develop upper back pain after several days. Any tips?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 03:56 PM PDT

I can wake up in the morning and stretch to the sky as hard as I can and be fine, however if I softly perform same motion in the middle of a sun salutation for a few days I end up developing pain in my upper back.

On my last attempt at yoga I did the sun salutation very gently 3 times every morning, and by the 2nd week I could tell it was doing more harm than good. I'm thinking of maybe just doing one sun salutation once a week then building from there.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: I should mention I'm a pretty tall guy, right handed and mostly only experience pain in my right upper back, so I think that may have something to do with it.

    Hip flexor pain

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 07:08 AM PDT

Whenever I'm doing a child's pose I feel pain in my hip flexors except when I spread my knees a little wider. I'm not sure if my hip flexors are tight or overstretched. I haven't had this pain when I first started yoga 2 years ago. Does anyone else have this problem?

Just a dude in desperate need of advice

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 12:00 AM PDT

I am a 30 year-old slouchy 6'4" Chef working multiple 14 hour shifts weekly. I really know yoga is for me and I need it now more than ever. I have a few mats and a gym-rat partner. They are about to teach me the ways of lifting but I know I also need yoga. I know the sidebar has resources, they are all bookmarked but I just want to know from the source what could get me addicted to it. Post quarantine I am trying to replace bad habits and I know yoga is the best option. Amy guidance or support would be infinitely helpful.

    Obsessed with inner thigh stretch

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 09:35 PM PDT

Anyone else gotten into stretching inner thighs? It's truly amazing and a journey within itself. I first discovered through basic stretching and feeling these triggering points. I would feel In different areas such as my groin, front thigh, inner thighs. I continued to explore, ending up in crazy positions attempting to reach these satisfactory stretching points hitting the spots that never receive attention. Every since I started this, I feel as though I've broke myself in is how I would describe it... a very noticeable new level of flexibility and you can feel soon after stretching for a good 20 minutes, amazing. It also amazes me most people aren't getting this satisfaction, instead never stretching these areas and getting stiff over time, then making themselves believe it's bc of age and so forth :/ I regularly take time to hit these areas because it's so satisfying; during & after. Its almost like a scratch you can never fully get to LOL Anyone else experience this?

Tips for knee pain during stretches?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 07:06 AM PDT

Just started doing yoga about 3 weeks ago, and I'm just having some trouble with my left knee. When I'm doing a forward lunge, warrior, chair pose, or just anything that puts pressure on the knee I get a sharp pain and have to stop that pose immediately. It's just fairly frustrating because I'm in such a beginner stage and already having problems
