    First time crying during yoga

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 10:37 PM PDT

It totally took me by surprise. I've been practicing for over 10 years and I've heard of this happening, but never experienced it myself. I took a yin class and I was squirming around, anxious, having a hard time simply holding the stretches and breathing. My mind was filled with so many thoughts - currently COVID related thoughts as I'm a healthcare professional but that's an aside - anyway I was seated and felt the anxiety bubbling up and we were simply rolling the head around and releasing tension from the neck and I started tearing up. Then we folded forward into a somewhat fire log shape and I felt it was safe to release.

My mat has been here through my greatest struggles and some of my most wonderful accomplishments. I love the practice of yoga, and the gifts it has given me… and how much I'm learning to care for myself.

I’ve just applied for a scholarship spot in a backpacking yoga retreat. Wish me luck!

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 06:55 AM PDT

I'm not sure if posts like this are allowed, but please wish me luck and send good vibes! I could really, really use something like this in my life right now. I've had a lot of change—the pandemic, the end of an abusive relationship, missing out on study abroad, figuring out my major in college, finding who I am, etc. Five days of reflection in the woods sounds perfect.

If I do happen to get a spot, does anyone have tips or advice? I've been doing yoga on and off for about three years, but I've never been backpacking. It sounds like we will be traveling roughly 8-9 miles along Lake Superior each day and all of our equipment will be provided. I am so hoping to be challenged mentally and physically.

Are there yoga retreats for newbies...if so suggestions

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 05:12 PM PDT

I discovered yoga this year amid all the stress if the pandemic and fell in love. I'm very much a beginner but do something everyday even if it's 15 minutes and aim for several 60 minutes session. I set a yearly goal of attending a weekend yoga retreat and was looking for suggestions....things that matter are...affordable, drivi8ng distance or cheap flight from Nashville, and appropriate for beginners.

How do you get yourself back to the mat?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 02:05 AM PDT

I was practicing every day until I moved in June. I've barely practiced the last two months. I blamed it on the stress of moving and trying to get settled in, but I think it's more that I'm sad and just can't get myself to get on the mat. I know that I feel better when I'm practicing, but I feel like I'm just making excuses not to do it. Like "oh, you woke up late, now you don't have time for yoga," even though I have so much time in the evening, or "oh I don't have down dog anymore."

If you have ever experienced this feeling, how did you get back into your practice?

Edit: thank you everyone for your kind advice. I will try some of your methods and hopefully it will rekindle me a bit

Best yin poses for a tight abdomen?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 11:36 AM PDT

I have panic disorder and because of it I have a crazy tight abdomen. This tension has started to affect my ability to breathe deeply. Could anyone here recommend some yin poses to release tension in the core/diaphragm/intercostals?

Just started doing yoga classes and I’m suddenly getting headaches

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 10:41 AM PDT

I start doing yoga about a week ago and I go 3-4 times a week at corepower to C2 classes. I'm 25 and have a really stiff back from sitting at a desk all day and really needed something to get me moving and stretch out. I hydrate really well, 3-4L per day, but since starting I'm getting a lot of headaches. In all my life I've never gotten headaches until now. It's not directly after class either, it's usually at night or the next day. Any advice or thoughts?

I feel like my energy body is off like the energy flowing upwards is greater than it flowing downwards, i am looking for info on the one that goes downwards, called the current of manifestation and how I can better strengthen it as to make my energy even out. Anyone have any info?

    Yoga on carpet

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 03:22 PM PDT

I've started going to a studio twice a week, and now I want to continue my practice at home. There's no quiet space in my house with hardwood floors that's large enough for my mat. My home office is an ideal place other than that it's carpeted.

What's the best way to practice on carpet? With my mat? With a towel? Just on the carpet?

So much stronger after 20 days of 30 day challenge! :)

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 09:33 PM PDT

20 days into the Travis Elliot 30 for 30 day challenge and already feel SO much stronger. I have been slowly building my yoga practice over the last few months. I started with gentle practices here and there and then did a 30 day challenge via Yoga with Adrienne. Hers compared to Travis' is day and night. I never broke a sweat with hers and I'm getting a major workout with his. Plus I can feel the flexibility building.

I'm loving the strength I'm building so wondering what I should do next? Goals are core strength (and I am the WORST at core but I have back problems so this is a priority) and increasing flexibility

    Hydratation yoga

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 02:27 AM PDT

    Retreats in the COVID-era

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:49 AM PDT

    Greetings,

I might have a couple of weeks of "alone-vacation" in November, and I want to go for a yoga-trip, preferably somewhere warm.

Does anyone have any good insight as to where it might work out to travel given the situation? For reference, I have the EU QR code for 1 Pfizer-dose and positive test in March this year, so I am immune and protected.

    Poses for lower back fatigue.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:41 AM PDT

    Hi guys.

I'm dealing with a lot of stress-related lower back/thigh/calf fatigue and tightness. Is there anything I can do to relieve this in the short term while I take care of my mental health?

    Thank you.

Yin yoga - before or after cycling?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 03:48 AM PDT

I'm a regular cyclist/runner and cycle to work most days. I want to add some yin yoga to my practice to help with flexibility, but I've heard it may be unhealthy for your joints right before or after a workout? Realistically this is the only time I can really fit it into my schedule. Would I be doing something bad by using it as a warm up or cool down?

Whey Protein consumption after yoga practice. (Or any protein)

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 03:06 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I've been practicing yoga for a year. I've written this subreddit before and everyone's been very helpful.I have a question in mind today about nutrition, and I need your opinion.First of all, I train 50 minutes a day, 5 days a week.I'm skinny in general, Height 186 cm, weight 69 kg. Although the protein content I can get daily varies, I can get between 60 and 100 grams of protein. Usually my daily diet is 50% carbohydrate, 35% fat, 15% protein. However, with normal nutrition, I can't increase my protein content much.I can only get to 20%, which is very rare. Nearly 150 grams. Do you think I should get Whey protein after practice? Or is this protein content quite adequate? Do you guys take any protein supplements after practice?Thank you for your enlightening feedback and help.

P.S: I'm not native English speaker, for caution eyes, sorry about my grammer and typo mistakes.
