Have a "stupid" question and are afraid to ask it? (Or don't want to make a whole thread for it?) Well, feel free to ask away in this thread! There's no such thing as a stupid question. This is also a great opportunity for the rest of the community to help each other out.

    Guidelines:

    • As always, read the FAQ to make sure your question isn't answered already.
    • If you're looking for the Motivational Month threads from the past, they are all here in our Wiki.
    • You can also use the search bar to see if an answer to your question exists already.
    • We are not medical professionals. If something hurts and it doesn't go away within a week's rest, see one!

    Enjoy!

One of the only upsides of this is all the new, free online yoga lessons!

Working on strengthening and keeping my flexibility after a knee injury

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 03:21 PM PDT

I’m 23 and have the problem rounding on my lower back and don’t know how to fix it or what it’s caused by. I’m almost lead to believe it’s my body structure (very short torso and long limbs). Is there a way I can solve this?

    5 minute morning routine

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:17 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know of a 5minute morning stretch/warmup routine that hits pretty much the whole body (joints, limbs, muscles) and makes you feel ready for the day. Preferably doesn't involve getting on the floor and using a large amount of space (small room).

    Many thanks:)

I don’t think I posted this one yet. If you have any questions on how I got my flexibility I would be glad to answer!☺️

What should I be focusing on?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 03:29 PM PDT

What should I be focusing on?

I can touch my hands on my feet, and I can open my legs pretty widely if I have my hands behind me. However I simply can't have my legs opened + my hands in front of me like the picture attached.

Is this mostly lack of back flexibility or legs?

    Thanks!

    Stretching before or after workout?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 04:07 PM PDT

Hello! I've been lurking through this sub for a while and I want to start stretching. I have also been trying to create a workout habit and do at least a 30 minute workout. I did some research on the yoga/workout order since I'm interested in yoga ad well (and plan on switching between yoga and stretching) and many people said it's better to do yoga after a workout. Thing is, I'm pretty sure I read here (don't know if it was the FAQ) that you shouldn't do it after a workout. Now I'm confused.

My plan is to workout 5 times a week. 3 days lower body and 2 days upper body. I also wanted to incorporate some stretching and yoga. How should I do this?

Stretching muscle and antagonist in the same session- good, bad, indifferent?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 06:53 AM PDT

TLDR is stretching a muscle and it's antagonist, e.g. quads and hamstrings, in the same session inefficient?

I've started doing some intermediate level training sessions only devoted to flexibility - not just passive but also active strengthening of the agonist (muscle being stretched here) eccentrically and the antagonist concentrically.

Pairing a muscle stretch and an active concentric strengthening of its antagonist starting from a shortened position seems a good idea, both because of the reciprocal inhibition reflex and because they both contribute to the same position. For example pike stretching and active compression work (lifting the legs) starting from a piked position.

However stretching a muscle and it's antagonist seems to be working on something and it's opposite at the same time, which does not seem to be the best way to go at it.

Does anyone know if it really is suboptimal or if in the end it doesn't matter?

3 question survey for student project; any back pain/posture issues from sitting for long periods of time? (Or any back pain/stiffness at all)

    Posted: 29 Mar 2020 03:24 PM PDT

Hi, I'm not sure if this violates community rules or not, but I'm a college student looking to get some responses for a short survey my group is using to find a solution to back pain/posture issues for individuals in occupations that require extended periods of time seated at a desk.

If anyone wouldn't mind taking a few moments to complete the survey, I would really appreciate it!

A note about the questions: our professor isn't allowing us to ask one-word-answer questions, even though those are best for surveys, (surveys are best suited for gathering quantifiable data) so your answers DO NOT have to be super thorough. We're simply trying to get as many responses as possible. TIA!!!
