    Pay attention to the spaces

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 07:28 PM PDT

I hold up five fingers. What do you see? Most would see 5 fingers. Few would see the spaces between the fingers.

When you're meditating, pay attention to the spaces between your thoughts; when you do this, you'll find that the space expands, which gives you more to time to course correct and bring yourself back to awareness, instead of following the thought. Repeat the mantra: "No thought is worth following" and you'll see how quickly the thought train fades away and dissolves into the abyss.

Same with the breath. Each breath cycle includes the pause at the top of the breath, and the pause at the bottom of the breath. Pay attention to these pauses. Watch the stillness in the pause, and catch a glimpse into your inner silence and bliss.

    Happy meditating !

We're stuck at home, stress levels are through the roof, some of us try to work, others try to keep calm. Most of us fail at both. I created twin instrumental playlists that I think can immensely help with finding inner peace and relaxation

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 04:14 AM PDT

    One is piano focused: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0QGRbe22EQ8zkI5B19wV6j?si=3RIqEHqRTGGA6F7zPSh_SA

The other is acoustic guitar focused: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/39Bmm1ZVkuKxcWCUmZokl8?si=z5DTuGQ7S8Och9AcSMr-tg

Both are filled with only fresh, magical and beautiful tracks, and will be updated weekly. I call them everchanging, because every track present will stay only for 30 days. That makes the lists fresh, surprising, like a lootbox of beautiful music that keeps on giving ;) Stay home, stay safe. Check them out, I'm sure you'll enjoy them.

If i just sit down, close my eyes and focus on counting would that be considered meditation?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 10:42 PM PDT

    I realized something today.

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 02:47 PM PDT

Most of what is pain and suffering is -self made-. It's the ego trying to survive by hurting itself or others. It's insane, It's like I've been trying to find aches and pains in my body for no apparent reason!!!!!

We live in a world where its considered strange to just sit and do nothing.

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 06:11 AM PDT

Everywhere I go where theres people who are waiting for something like on the train or at uni during class breaks, whenever there is a second of down time, they immediately pull out their phone. Not because they doing anything important on there, but because it has become a habit to be constantly doing. Sitting there silently and just being is even considered strange. If you have recently started meditating you might even feel like pulling out your phone too just so you fit in. Don't do it. Just sit there with yourself for a minute and see what happens. Sometimes by just sitting there, you might even pull other people out of their phones without saying or doing anything.

The situation around the world right now is an opportunity to for us face ourselves. To stop running away from what we are, which really just means to sit there with ourselves without any distractions. That's being a human being.

    New here, have some questions

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 12:06 AM PDT

I'm currently doing unguided meditation for 30mins twice a day, just trying to focus on my breath, and have been relatively consistent (maybe missing my evening session but never both) for almost 2 months now.

I suffer with pretty bad depression and anxiety, had a "traumatic" childhood, and am in recovery for an eating disorder (not bragging, just explaining the reasons I'm trying to do this and why it may be harder for me).

Guided meditations are an AWFUL experience for me. I get distracted by what they're saying, analyse their instruction, respond with all the reasons I can't do what they're saying and then get upset, angry and frustrated, normally ending in a tantrum (yeah, it's bad).

When I'm "meditating" I can't seem to pay attention to my breath for very long, find myself thinking and distracted etc. People keep saying "watch your thoughts" and I have no idea how to do that, I feel like I am my thoughts, they're just my constant experience and I'm swept away in them a lot.

So my question comes down to: what am I supposed to do? How is it supposed to feel? When do I know when I'm doing it right? How do I get better at it? What does it feel like when it's working? How long does it take to work?

Any help is good help so TIA

    Awareness

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 11:53 PM PDT

I am awareness. I am not the body i inhabit or the ever-changing emotions and ideas.

Ok. So how does that not lead to indifference and apathy? If desires in life are based on feelings and thoughts for what we should do then desire simply doesn't exist in that state. Therefore it's not possible to change and are stuck into the same habits.

A second matter would be even if i don't identify with my current habits (which is what my body does) that doesn't mean they are not necessary. If my body is cold in the morning i will use my AC. If i manage to change my habits a new set of habits will take their place. Don't you go to work everyday? Don't you buy groceries every week?

If i identify with the awareness rather than the phenomena this doesn't make the phenomena stop or go away. If i can't use intellect how can i even ask/form this question (or why would i) and how can any of you comment on anything without using yours? Why are you even on Reddit then?

Started meditating but getting angry dreams...

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 11:24 PM PDT

I started meditating 3 days ago and the last couple of days, when I dream, I get extremely mad/frustrated. When I'm half-awake, I notice that I'm hitting the bed really hard with my fists. (It happened both times) Then I wake up with an intense feeling of rage that lasts for an hour and my chest feels heavy, as if I cried for days (but I didn't)

Is this normal? Is it related to meditation or just a coincidence?

    JB Smoove Guided Meditation

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 08:49 PM PDT

When starting out should I do twice daily 10min sessions or once daily 20min session?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 02:47 AM PDT

I know this question gets asked a lot but I would like to know the most beneficial practice. I find it hard to convince myself to take 40min out of my day to meditate right now. Eventually I would like to be meditating for an hour a day.

But right now while I first begin my practice which way is going to help me see results faster? I don't mind meditating for 20min but I wonder if it's better for me to first get into the habit of doing it twice a day. I feel good doing it for twenty minutes and I've heard that longer sessions are where you begin to see more results. (i.e. a longer session is better than sitting for 5min)

So yeah, I still struggle with making it a habit in the morning but during this quarantine I've made it a point to meditate before I eat. That way, no matter what, even if I skip breakfast I will still eventually meditate.

So yeah, looking for someone's opinion on my next step here. Should I continue doing it once a day for a good amount of time until it's a habit OR If I should really focus on making it twice a day even if I sacrifice the length of my sessions.

    Thank you

    My meditation journey.

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 04:07 PM PDT

Hello guys , it's nice to talk to you all , since I'm a huge reader of this group , even tho I don't ever comment , I appreciate every one of you because you inspire me to continue my journey to higher self awareness and becoming a better human being. I started my journey about 2 to 3 months ago , I didn't really think much of it, but the results of meditation and trying to achieve higher vibrance levels really changed me. I am starting to realise my self worth , finally getting out of my shell and saying out loud what I really think , but most importantly I realised that every single person is beautiful in it's own way. Since I really think that A lot of people are still searching for themselves I'm sharing some of my quotes and thoughts on instagram (saik0nus) I am not asking you to follow , I just want to help some starters or something like that , this instagram is for my personal journey and thoughts as I go through it. I really hope that I will find some people with the same mindset as me after this post , or you can comment your stories of meditation too , I will happily read them as I'm truly interested in every persons journey, Until we meet next time guys , stay safe.

Trying TM - If I saw a word out loud it helps with mindfulness, if I saw it silently, I feel a strange brain activity, almost circular. Which feeling am I going for here? Thank you!

Is the reduction of the 'Magnitude' of Pain common with Meditation?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 02:06 AM PDT

I've been meditating for about a month or so now. Twice a day an hour or so in total.

During my meditations there are phases where I talk to my mind and body with affirmations of healing, peace , happiness, acceptance, forgiveness and improvement. Sometimes I just let the silence do work as well, with no particular visual or verbal activity.

So, background to the story. I generally have a clip on my desk that I toy around with subconsciously when I'm talking to someone or doing something on my desk. On a few occasions I've put it on my lips and I'd generally end up shrieking with obvious pain and immediately realize what I've done and would then proceed to remove the clip.

Today however, I could feel the sensation of pain but it just felt like any other sensation instead of the amplified screaming sort of feeling that you'd generally get. I was really surprised at first because for some reason I didn't mind it at all. I then proceeded to pinch myself really hard and voila, I felt the exact same thing.

I'm not sure what to exactly attribute this to. Something in my head tells me it's because of the meditation I'm doing, even though I've never specifically intended to tell my body to feel less pain.

Have you guys had similar experiences with pain reduction or is it possibly something else?

I've searched online but nothing really came up.

How exactly did you learn about meditation? And what kind of meditation do you practice?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 06:02 PM PDT

I learned about mindfulness meditation first from my Health Psychology professor a few years ago but I only started practicing when I heard about it from Sam Harris.
