Posted: 30 Mar 2020 06:11 PM PDT I just want to thank the ancient Indians, the culture of India and Hinduism which enabled and gave us yoga! It has been psychologically and physically lifesaving in these hard times! [link] [comments] |
I’m not flexible at all, but yoga is absolutely boring to me. Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:34 PM PDT I can hardly touch my toes, and I want to start becoming flexible. Yoga has always been a struggle for me. I compare myself a lot, and not being able to do something frustrates me. That, combined with a lack of patience kills me. I've tried many YouTube videos, ones like Yoga with Adrienne (beginner videos) and I get insanely bored. I like the way she speaks, and how carefree she is but it's just the yoga itself. It's hard for me to be consistent when it's like this. I want to see results quickly but obviously it takes time. Being able to stretch everyday would be wonderful but it feels like a chore more than relaxing. Any advice? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Mar 2020 07:53 PM PDT I am a really enthusiastic gym bro, and have been strength training and doing various forms of cardio- running, swiming since last 6 months. I am interested in Yoga, and would like to incorporate it in my training regimen. So, the people who do both strength training and Yoga- how do you do it? What's your regimen like? Any pointers? Thanks in advance! Edit- I am an amateur in Yoga, have been doing it on and off since quite some time. Have devoured Eric Schiffmans book and his videos. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2020 12:13 PM PDT I have been practicing yoga almost daily since the beginning of this year and have been able to work my way up to a handstand off the wall without support. I am able to hold the pose for about 4-5 seconds, and balance comfortably. However, I am not able to hold longer than this due to head pressure that can sometimes leave me with a slight headache for the next 30 minutes. What can I do to ease this pressure, or does anyone have general tips not already posted? :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2020 06:08 PM PDT Does anyone know of a Yoga Alliance School doing online training during the pandemic? Yoga Alliance is temporarily allowing online training until June 30th (so far). Bonus points if it's in the DFW area in Texas. Open to all options though. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Big Book of Asanas - Please Advise! Posted: 30 Mar 2020 05:43 PM PDT Hi community! I have been trying to deepen my practice with additional asanas and invested in a book that is heavy with 2000 asanas. They are all categorized under 'Standing', 'Downward Facing Dog', 'Seated' (etc) chapters. Any advice on how one can best use such a book? Edit : the book is '2100 Asanas: The Complete Yoga Poses' by Daniel Lacerda [link] [comments] |
Anyone have any data regarding the effects of yoga on trigger points - or trigger points on yoga? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 05:18 PM PDT I'm curious if there's any data on this, or if anyone has any experience with it. If not the former, have you just pushed through and yoga helped handle TPs? Or have you noticed that TPs actually made it more difficult? Thank you for any helpful feedback! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Mar 2020 04:40 PM PDT "An initiate disciple claimed he could be seated, comfortably without breathing for extended periods. He was placed in an airtight glass chamber. A lighted candle and a live monkey were placed in similar chambers. Electrodes were connected to his heart, brain and different parts of the body, and he was asked to play the table while instruments monitored his parameters. His nose and ears were blocked and his whole body was smeared with wax, so that air would not pass through the pores. After three minutes the candle went out, and after fifteen minutes the monkey fell unconscious, but Swami Nada-brahmananda continued to play the table formore than forty minutes. During this period he was not breathing and when a coin was placed on top of his shaved head, it bobbed up and down. When a microphone was placed against any part of his body, a loud, constant sound like that of a waterfall was heard. He explained that this sound was the movement of prana, adding that one continues to live as long as the prangs are active, even if one stops breathing. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika (23) echoes his statement: As long as the vayu (prana) remains in the body, there is life. Death occurs when the vayu leaves the body, therefore, retain vayu." Poses to help an unaligned atlas bone? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 04:17 PM PDT I'm currently visiting a chiropractor to help alleviate migraines. I've had them forever, so there's no prior health issues. X-rays are showing my atlas bone (the bone that cradles your skull at the base) is a little crunched up due to lack of curvature in my neck. My neck is sitting a little too straight (probably from leaning forward looking at a computer, driving, etc.) and we're working on curving it back out. Are there any yoga poses I can incorporate into my practice to help this curvature, or to release that pressure the atlas bone is under? I've done my 200-hr so I kind of know where to begin but lacking on the creative front lol. Thanks in advance, everyone! [link] [comments] |

Yoga sequence that avoids aggravating hysterectomy scar? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 09:48 AM PDT Hi Folks, I started yoga about 3 months ago and have recently started doing it with my (60yo) Mum over Zoom. She's in the UK where you're currently only permitted 1 exercise outing per day - she goes for a walk every day, but I'm hoping that this added little bit of exercise will help her stay as healthy as possible (physically and mentally!). She's generally at the beginner stage, but she also has chronic mild pain and tenderness along her scar from a hysterectomy she had about 5 years ago. I've been gathering a list of poses from online research, but I'd love to use an actual sequence with more of a flow. Even 20 minutes worth would be perfect! Anything that puts excess strain on the lower abdomen isn't possible for her - for example, raising legs from lying flat on the floor. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! How long can I reasonably practice yoga every day? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 11:30 AM PDT Would an hour every day be fine? Could I do more or would that risk harming my body? TIA :) [link] [comments] |
