| Online Resources / COVID-19 Related Items **MEGATHREAD** Posted: 16 Mar 2020 08:02 AM PDT Moving existing thread content here, and all new posts will be directed here. Current scattered posts will likely be locked, as lots of people were starting new threads w/o looking to see what was already here. This includes the 'how are you coping/how are you affected/should I go to class' types of conversations. Please note that the standard searches in the subreddit for youtube channels, apps, free resources, home practice, etc. will yield a ton of results, and /r/YogaWorkouts is also a resource, and the usual 'don't spam here' clause applies. Includes Down Dog, Yoga for Beginners, HIIT, Barre, and 7 Minute Workout

So that anyone who wants to practice at home can do so, we are making all of our apps - Down Dog, Yoga for Beginners, HIIT, Barre, and 7 Minute Workout - completely free until April 1st. You can learn more about all five of these apps at https://www.downdogapp.com/ If you are already subscribed, please help us spread the word and forward this along to anyone you think might benefit from free at-home fitness, and help us get this message to those who need it most. | Posted: 16 Mar 2020 10:10 AM PDT I just want to express what a help yoga has been for me at this time. I have been very committed to my daily practice, and have been able to receive the benefits almost immediately. I feel strong, calm, and peaceful. I am so thankful I have my yoga props and everything I need to practice. I am also grateful to know how to practice even if I dont have my props with with! Using household things, furniture, walls etc..... Its just so comforting to know that no matter what I can always find my tadasana and receive that grounding connection. [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 16 Mar 2020 05:23 PM PDT I'm getting back into yoga after a few years hiatus and I'm trying to find a new mat since mine are long gone. I found a mat that comes with 2 blocks and 2 towels for $40 on Amazon. Originally I was just going to buy a mat but I thought that this was a good deal. Would it be better to get the bundle or get just a regular mat? I don't remember using blocks too much but my memory is bad so I'm not sure how necessary they are. Also if anyone has mat recommendations for people with cats that love clawing yoga mats I'm all for it. [link] [comments] |
| Mandarin Yoga YouTube Channel? Posted: 16 Mar 2020 12:24 PM PDT Hi everyone, Looking for a yoga instructional YouTube (or other video-sharing site) channel with Mandarin instructions. Bonus points if it's Ashtanga yoga. Anybody you'd recommend? My mom is having a hard time with social distancing and staying indoors (she's not sick or in quarantine, but our health experts are asking people to avoid going out unnecessarily), and I think this would help her. She's been wanting to learn for some time now, but would have a hard time with English instructions. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
| Help with padmasana/ Full lotus? Posted: 16 Mar 2020 02:10 PM PDT I am not really a yoga practitioner, but I have been trying to be able to do a full lotus for awhile... I have very poor flexibility especially in my hips. I have googled several help forums/ videos but after around a month it feels that I am making no progress. Any have similar issues/ advice? | Posted: 16 Mar 2020 07:52 AM PDT So I'm finally reading Autobiography of a Yogi, and, setting aside the question of veracity regarding Yogananda's miraculous claims, I'm reasonably certain Babaji is the inspiration for Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan. Babaji is a Christ-like immortal with seemingly supernatural powers. He can materialize and dematerialize at will, teleporting himself and others. He can duplicate his body, being in multiple places at once. He has absolute mastery of matter. He can create palaces out of thin air. He perceives time as if it is all happening at once, knowing all moments of his life -past, present and future- as if it's already happened. He levitates. He glows with divine light. He's basically God. Sound familiar? I feel pretty certain that Alan Moore, Seventies psychedelic occultist that he is, was drawing inspiration from a book that would've been, at the time, a cornerstone of esoteric literature. Any thoughts on this? [link] [comments] |
| A unexplainable sudden surge of emotions after a yoga practice/workout - Help! Posted: 16 Mar 2020 01:39 PM PDT Hi everyone, I'm quite new to yoga (started Nov 19). I only do it at home by following YouTube videos (Yoga with Adriene is my favourite, I also like Sarah Beth and Sanela Yoga). In the beginning it was really hard for me to do even a simple 10-15 yoga session and I'd sweat like crazy, but I enjoyed it and I felt like I was pushing myself to become stronger and stronger. One day after I'd taken a shower which I always do after a yoga session, suddenly a surge of emotions came over me. It is very hard to explain as English isn't my first language but it started in my nostrils, it felt cold, like if you were high up in the mountains and you could breathe in as much air as you want. The emotions are intense and overwhelming that I can barely stand and breathe. I feel that I could weep but I didn't. This is where it gets weird, the feeling comes with a strong smell, it's a really sweet smell, like candy or caramel. It's very overpowering that I can taste it in my mouth. All this happened in a course of 2-3 minutes where I would just cover my face and wait until I regain composure. I really would not describe this episode as pleasant as I feel powerless, confused and scared. I would have this episodes almost daily until it finally dissipated because I was getting stronger and stronger or at least that is what I'd like to believe until today. I'd read about sometimes yoga makes you emotional so I left it at that until this morning. I did a short 15 minute yoga with some alternate nostril breathing and continued with a cardio work out and then it suddenly came! Starting with the cold in my nostrils and then the sickly sweet scent with the overwhelmingly rush of emotion that I had to stop my exercise and cover my face to gain composure until the episode ended. I really hated it! I could feel that it was coming and yet there was nothing I could do to stop it. I really have no idea what it is and I really need some advice from you guys. Is this normal or am I crazy or do I have some illness or something. Any response is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
| Yoga Nidra dizziness and nausea. Posted: 16 Mar 2020 07:48 AM PDT I stumbled across Yoga Nidra a couple of weeks ago and decided to give it a shot last night, before my bedtime. I listened to this particular meditation : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aslf5IrbcEU I followed the guide and I began to feel like I am sinking into my bed, a relaxation I am not sure I've ever felt before in my body. It felt like my body was jello! I kept my eyes closed through all this and about fifteen minutes into the meditation I began to feel nauseous and, keeping my eyes closed, I felt like I was spinning around the room every possible way. I tried to stick with it and get through it, but I had to open my eyes and move my body around a little bit, twisting and turning to alleviate the nausea. I kept my eyes open for a while and turned to lie on my side, instead of my back. Laying there for a couple of minutes, the nausea lessened but it was still there. I decided to finish the remaining 10 minutes or so but it wasn't the same becuase of the nausea. On the good side, I slep like a hibernating bear that night and I was EXHAUSTED! I've had trouble falling asleep for as long as I can remember, but this time it was different. I got out of my bed to turn out the computer and to brush my teeth, but I was so exhausted I skipped the brushing of the teeth and fell asleep almost instantly as I got back to my bed. I've had trouble finding information about this type of issues, so I concluded that this may not be a common problem, quite the contrary instead. On the one hand I am baffled of the nausea, but on the other hand I haven't slept like I did in A LONG TIME, so I'm not sure what to think of this! Any input is appreciated =) Thank you [link] [comments] |

| Any other teachers or studios offering online live/ streaming classes this week? Posted: 15 Mar 2020 09:23 PM PDT Obviously many studios are closing or students are opting to stay home due to public health concerns. But people need yoga now more than ever given how much collective uncertainty & angst there is. Corepower is opening some free online yoga classes. Is anyone else here offering online classes or doing Facebook Live / Instagram Live classes? If so please leave details in the comments. [link] [comments] |
| Has anyone experienced lower back pain in crow pose? Posted: 16 Mar 2020 05:40 AM PDT Not just crow but some poses like pistol squat, straight leg forward while maintaining straight body. Sometimes in boat pose (navasana) [link] [comments] |
| [advice] Yoga practice first thing in the morning Posted: 16 Mar 2020 02:51 AM PDT It's a simple question but would rather ask the community than Google. To those who yoga is the first activity in the morning, do you drink a glass of water before or after? Curious about what others do since there's contradicting advice: some say drink 1 glass of water as soon as you wake up (which I like doing) and some say to no drink anything at least 1 hour before practice. Any thoughts? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
