Welcome to Form Check Friday! Here is the link to all previous Form Check Fridays

Please post a photo or video of the stretch you'd like to be critiqued. Do include any specific questions you have about your form.

Your video or photo should be:

    • Oriented the correct way, we want to see the lines of your body
    • Be formatted such that there isn't unnecessary video of you preparing for the move (keep it short)
    • Have the important bits of the movement clearly visible (multiple angles is always useful)
    • Include the whole body

    Rules for critiquing form

    • Constructive criticism only
    • Feel free to point others to resources that address their form and/or questions if you aren't "qualified" to give them advice yourself

If your form is awesome, consider posting it in the Show Off Sunday thread!

Trying to reach some flexibility goals. Yesterday I got my feet to touch my head and today I was trying this one out (will need to work on getting my arms straight).

Shoulders flexibility ... hey everyone, I’m trying to get my shoulders more flexible.. as you see here i can’t hold them aligned, do you have suggestions about exercises that might help?

Weird pains during splits - how do I fix this?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2020 02:37 AM PDT

I've been a cheerleader since I was around 12, was very flexible back then, and I've joined cheerleading at university after 3 years off. I'm still pretty flexible, I can almost do the splits. But my right leg is so painful around the underside of my knee, inside of my leg.

I've tried stretching it slowly, but the last time I did that I felt a pop of a tendon or something, and I was in pain for days. Does anyone know how I can stretch that area? No matter how much I stretch (training 3 times a week, stretching almost every day) I can't get that leg to budge. Any ideas would be amazing!!!

Hip pain while in deep squat resting position.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:03 PM PDT

For the past week or so I've been attempting the deep squat resting position. I can usually hold the position for a few seconds before the pain in my hips gets the better of me. I've tried hip mobility exercises and it doesn't seem to be helping. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Does a stiff knee affect hip tightness? and vice versa?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:36 PM PDT

I am generally quite flexible (can do side splits on both sides) but I cannot sit cross-legged for very long. I have a very stiff right knee and I was wondering if this was the cause of my less flexible right hip. Or whether my tight right hip caused knee stiffness? In comparison, my left knee and hip are fine. Does anyone else have this problem? Thoughts? Thank you.

    Yoga Videos/Apps

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:03 PM PDT

My wife and I are interested in doing some yoga together at night before bed since, well, Covid-19.

Are there any good follow along yoga videos on YouTube y'all would recommend? We don't want Power style before bed, but we also don't want to just be doing child pose/corpse pose over and over.

Also, are there any good apps? I keep getting ads on Instagram for Skill Yoga, and I was thinking it might be a good thing to help with general flexibility for when I get back into the gym, but I'm not sure.

    Thanks!

    Back and shoulders flexibility

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:51 PM PDT

Hiya. Right now is quarantine and it would be the perfect time to start stretching. I have no problem with my legs, but my back and shoulders are very inflexible. Can it be caused by being overweight (the lil' muffin top stops me) or just from not doing that many back stretches? Either way please share some back and shoulder stretches!

    How to achieve splits

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:03 PM PDT

Hey guys, so I want to achieve the splits and I've gotten close to it before. I'm not there anymore but I want to ask the experts who know a lot more than me: how do you go about achieving the splits (both ways) optimally?

Can only do a deep squat with straight back in shoes. Want to be able to do it barefoot.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:38 PM PDT

I'd like to be able to sit in a deep squat barefoot, but as of now I can only do it in shoes or when my heels are about 1-1.5" off the ground. I can sit pretty low, but without the raised heels I need to arch my back quite a bit to compensate. Is this an ankle mobility issue? What's the best way to go about fixing this? Are there some specific exercises I can do or should I just sit in a squat for longer?

Is it possible my body will not be able to do the splits?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:05 AM PDT

No matter how much I practice I haven't been able to even come close. The backs of my knees will not straighten.

Are there any ab stretches that dont stretch the back as well?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:40 PM PDT

    What are your favorite stretches?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:22 PM PDT

You know, the stretches you really look forward to and sit in for ages. Mine are lunges and any back stretches.
