I wanted to share my experience meditating with the full moon last night

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 08:27 AM PDT

I had a beautiful meditation experience last night. I hadn't even set out to deliberately meditate, it just happened.

Me and my boyfriend were having a fire in our yard enjoying the full moon. We were listening to a live stream on YouTube called "cozy jazz" and it was so lovely and perfect for the moment. We sat there quietly enjoying the music and the moon and the little sprinkles of rain that came and went.

At one point I closed my eyes and felt myself drift into this mental space that felt empty and clear and all there was was the music, and I was tuned into every note and each note struck me in almost an emotional way where I felt like I might cry (happy tears). And I began imagining the whole earth blanketed in a soft, loving light. I imagined everyone on earth at the same time feeling the peace and pleasure that I was feeling, as everyone's fear and uncertainty melted away. It felt like a prayer. It felt really powerful and soft at the same time.

I haven't tried meditating in a while, but this experience has me wanting to incorporate it into my life again. What a beautiful full moon experience to have.

    A theory for everything.

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 12:09 AM PDT

Light in the presence of gravity and matter, produces consciousness.

Consciousness and living feeling exists as a spherical blackhole in space, using gravity as a tool to constantly absorb light and matter around it to feed, live another day, and survive. Sleep and dietary habits influence light and matter absorptions, so your sphere can occasionally lose rotational velocity and stop moving in space. If you deny sleep, you slow down, if you stop eating you slow down, if you stop drinking you slow down.

Why do you think the sun moves through space, the earth revolves around the sun, the moon revolves around the earth, and the earth itself rotates constantly? Because their spherical bodies want to survive.

The moon allowed organic beings to sleep and exist. Sleep is basically a new evolutionary way of saying to the universe, "hey, yeah man sorry I couldn't find a way to have sex or eat / drink today, but I'm going to stop moving myself and minimize my energy use so I can stretch my consciousness a bit longer to save myself tomorrow."

Our consciousness breaths and moves through space, as a floating cloud but tied to our humanly actions on earth.

Slow down your actions enough and you begin to make yourself a target. Your living consciousness is running out of oxygen, and it needs to breathe.

Coronavirus. Seems like there's a link to that.

Time is a race in which our survival instincts and passed down traditions, let us stretch that window of consciousness as long as we can.

How do you get your food. How do you get your water. Where do you live and how do you sleep. These fundamental, but passed down teachings from our heritage and ancestors help us survive day to day.

Don't forget the physics. Based on the law of energy conservation, all the energy inside you or myself has been, and always will have existed in the universe. It was just a matter of time until the right pieces all came together.

Light is sucked down to the depth of your soul by earths gravity, and is kept down there for a fleeting moment because you eat drink and sleep in a matter based universe, and your living actions transform the energy around you to bind your soul into a vessel.

Consciousness is taught to grab hold of the energy around it and use it to internally breathe oxygen and carbon into its own body.

Take this bread for it is my body, and this wine my blood. Christianity and religion is a method or organizing human behavior into groups of encouraged food and sexual behaviors to promote survival. And let's not forget survival of the fittest is real right? and is why religions clashing have caused the needless death of millions with holy crusades.

Religion is a human invention. I'm not saying it's not a good thing, because it is and serves a meaningful purpose;just that it's based on the baseline intellect of society at the given time.

Consciousness floats in space and observable reality we see is just a visual presentation of recognizable patterns and habits, that we experience as thoughts, feelings, and emotions to have a unique experience.

We go to sleep at night because we want to turn off the light we see, astral project, and view the darkness of our eyelids and slumber away. We stretch our consciousness.

By depriving our soul of sight and sound, we unshackle our blackhole spirit from these perception-based arousals to scour the depth of space at our luxury.

Sleep embraces the darkness and allows you to wander distantly to places you could otherwise never reach in bodily form.

Sometimes we come back with good ideas to put into our vessel to try out the next, sometimes we don't.

Our meaning for existence in the universe is that we are here to consciously observe life and prove that time is real, by eating, drinking, and sleeping in a world of matter (key elements) (C , H, N, O) around us.

Death comes for all organic (conscious) matter, but it should just be known as an energy transformation. It's normal to be afraid of death, because you are literally pre-mourning the loss of the remainder of your life. We should embrace it, expected or unexpected. As humans we compete against it, taught and learned by our family and ancestors as upbringing.

Which. By the way, don't forget. On the most primal level, we are all just floating atoms bound together in space.

    No biggie.

But hey. I'm just some random guy from NJ who's asking questions. What do I know? 🙂

    Sitting postion

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:26 AM PDT

I tried meditating while sitting on the flat ground. I have the problem that I need to tense up the muscles in my legs and back really hard in order to not fall backwards with my back to the ground, and then my muscles start shivering and shaking and I can't meditate at all. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Should I sit on something like a little box to pudh my centre of mass forward?

PS: I exercise every day, and don't skip leg day.

Possible to daydream in a pleasant way after having meditated?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 02:44 AM PDT

So I've been meditating for almost two years now and it's definitely been a positive change in my life, however, I do daydream a lot less and I do see this as a negative.

Depending on what you're daydreaming about this can be a benefit. But I seem less imaginative overall than I used to be and I do miss that. I used to imagine music videos and movie trailers on the bus whilst listening to music. Music, in general, seems to affect my imagination and emotions a lot less these days. I am a lot more analytical when it comes to thoughts and feelings than I used to be, which again has been positive in many ways, but does seem to have its drawbacks.

Anyone else experiences this? Is it possible to get this back or is this just the price you pay for other benefits on meditation? Some people say that they fear meditation will affect them negatively in creative ways whilst others say it makes them even more creative. Does it just depend on the person?

Is there any meditation for toning down arrogance?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 10:05 PM PDT

Sometimes, when I have a sense of control or awareness over someone or feel like I know more than someone, I get this HUGE sense of arrogance over them. I've been working to humble myself but sometimes, it'll happen before I can catch myself slipping. Just this weird sense of "I'm better than them" or "they're easy".

Is there any meditation that can deal with these emotions? Like some sort of humbleness meditation?

    Beginner recommendations?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 01:38 AM PDT

I've dabbled a little bit in meditation but haven't had a strict practice, would 1 hour a day be enough to get discipline benefits or should I aim for 2? (1 morning and 1 evening).

I'm not interested in alternative forms of meditation, unless they would assist my discipline or attention span moreso than the basic practice.

What is the Soul ? (I)

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:23 PM PDT

When meditating, how do you focus on just resonating with a thought rather than actively chasing it and planning on how to fulfill it?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:09 PM PDT

I've been listening to a guided meditation by Deepak Chopra and a lot of things he says really resonates with me. When I hear these things, my mind immediately wants to chase the thought and start planning on improving myself in that way. How do you let the thought go and focus on the mediation rather than worrying about forgetting it or it not resonating?

Every single impulse and reaction we have represents an impulse to escape.

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 06:41 AM PDT

In my morning sit today, I had what I feel is a possibly solid insight: Every single impulse and desire we have represents an impulse to escape.

Even the most subtle, barely-conscious reaction is also a judgment, deeming this sensation or that thought or this state of consciousness as somehow not ideal and in need of change, and must be escaped. When I start to dig a little deeper, I realize that there is and never will be an escape. Escape from what into what? Yet another state that before long I would need to flee from AGAIN. It's through meditation that I start to calm this reactivity, this desire, this escapism, this FEAR.

This is probably old hat, but for me it's something I need to learn and relearn over and over.

    Questions

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:58 PM PDT

When I meditate I experience two things, and I'm wondering if there's a name for the sensation.

    1. Sometimes I feel like I'm inflating like a big balloon and it's a bit unsettling.

    2. Sometimes I get a euphoric happy feeling, the same feeling before falling a sleep for nap or reminiscing about something. What is that feeling? And is it possible to call that feeling willfully?

I'm kind of new, sorry if these are dumb questions!

How long does it usually take to see the benefits of meditation. Specifically to calm the mind

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:40 PM PDT

Started meditating and my issue is not being able to calm my mind. My thoughts are all over the place when I meditate. Every time I bring my focus back to the breath I lose it soon after.

How long does did it take for you all to have a calmer mind when you first started?

Just started meditating by sitting cross legged on the floor. It is very hard and tiring/painful to sit with a straight back. Does this get easier?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:44 AM PDT

I feel like I have not used these muscles ever and they are under a lot of strain. Will sitting like this with a straight posture help strengthen these muscles? Or is this pain I feel bad?

    The Ocean Is My Friend

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 11:07 AM PDT

I've been dwelling on lots of dark thoughts lately, and they've all been the subjects of my ramblings. From realizing you're a terrible person to thinking about how evil and indifferent both you and the world could be—there's just so much to be terrified about.

But I wanna talk about something nice and neutral and good this time. The ocean is my friend and every morning, I sit by the shore and let the wind blow through my face.

I watch the sun rise and listen to the water crash against the cement, and suddenly I start to feel small and good about life. I start to feel human and believe I'm capable of changing my ways and my behavior.

The ocean keeps me calm and reminds me we're all just human. We're all suffering—only unfortunately some more than others. But I forget about all that and hope there's something good in me. That I can be a better person to others. That I wouldn't have to use others to feel good about myself.

And I start becoming a friend to myself.

You are the one and only spirit of existence, you are the one and only being in the universe. You can not be distracted, you can not be bothered, you can't die, you are infinite, timeless, and already enlightened.

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:51 AM PDT

I've been stuck at a relatively stable amount of forgetting the breath for a few months now. A week ago, I've come to what I believe is an important insight for my progress.

You "believe" this is an important insight, this is no good ground to work on. Beliefs are coming and going, you must see through that which experiences, as the experiencer is always present. Beliefs know nothing of direct experience.

The common trait of these tweaks is that they are all designed to let me meditate on autopilot. Focus only on tactile sensations as opposed to being open to many different sensations; focus on your emotional state so that less awareness is needed to meditate later; rest between breaths and take cue from the beginning of the breath to „tune back in" to automate the process of being aware.

This is the process which eventually takes you to a complete automation of the process of being aware, it will be permanent and unchanging, and nothing could distract you. You would be well marinated in enlightenment, and you would come to a point where thoughts no longer bother you at all and there will be pure consciousness only. It is your natural state.

Meditating on autopilot is exactly what you want. If your "auto-pilot" is to be aware and present, then it is natural to be on "auto-pilot". You are not supposed to be tangled up in thoughts, emotions and sensations all the time, because ultimately they do not matter. They all come and go. But you are the one thing that never came and will never go. That is where you want to be within your self. Not the thoughts, sensations and emotions that are like the clouds passing, you are the SKY! You must simply be aware of your self as the sky. Once you are aware that you are the sky, the clouds will be meaningless. They are all fleeting. You are timeless. You are infinite. You are NOT the clouds, and that is good! Because that is the truth of what you are.

Autopiloting works for everything except the practice of awareness, but even for everything else it's not optimal. If you automate your pull-ups you won't notice new details (and there's always more, about anything), stagnate, and won't change the details of the exercise unless injury or some other factor strongly turns your attention.

If you automate your pull-ups to the ideal form (meditation) then the automated pull-ups are everything you need. You must not go and explore all the wrong methods of making pull-ups. You see the natural, most correct one, and you stick with it. You do not go looking around for injuries. The same with your mind. The automated meditation is all you need, because that is already automating the divinity within your self, if meditation which is your natural state is automated, that simply means you've arrived at your true place. So, if instead of automating meditation you go looking for thoughts, emotions and sensations (injuries), that's fine though, because you can completely leave the mind right now and simply be meditative. You don't need to go back to the thoughts, emotions and sensations.

I changed my approach. My primary goal now (along with appreciating returning to the breath) is to be ready for anything with each breath, to be present without many rules and work on sustaining that presence. Sitting became a time to be watchful. As a result, I'm looking at different aspects of the breath, exploring everything that can be found in it. I try to notice everything that could distract me before it does, and in doing so, am aware of pain, sound, bubbling thoughts, etc. I look at every breath as potentially bringing with it something new, something that wouldn't be enveloped by a rule I could make, which I'll have to wrestle with in the moment.

So now the mind has constructed a "primary goal" to each meditation. Instead of simply being meditative, it now must act according to a set of beliefs. One belief says "to be present without many rules" but that is already a rule! You can simply be present.

If the sitting became a time to be watchful, then when are you ever meditative? All the time you go to work or go to school and you are watchful. You watch the thoughts, the emotions and sensations that all these activities include. And now you got home and sit to be in joy, peace, compassion and love which is your natural state, but instead you are being watchful of thoughts, emotions and sensations even in your free time! Haha! It is funny how the mind can trick the experience like that. It is never true though. The mind has no true power as long as we see its workings.

So instead of being peaceful, compassionate, loving and joyful, you were busy looking at different aspects of breath, exploring it, "noticing everything that could distract me before it does", noticing all these distractions IS YOU BEING DISTRACTED. Haha. The mind is fucking tricky bro. It will do fucking everything to distract you, and make you believe that it isn't doing so. It will even turn against itself. "the mind trying be ahead of itself"

Those are all the things I should be doing anyway! They come spontaneously now. When I was trying to do apply them earlier, it was difficult and barely productive because of the underlying tendency toward autopilot practice. Now that I'm trying to be aware, they flow naturally.

You must not be doing anything. There is nothing you should do. If you were aware of what you truly are, any should would seem comical to you. You are not this body and mind. You are beyond the body and beyond the mind, you are the awareness which is aware of being aware. You are literally the spirit of everything. You are in "everything" and at the same time you are the one and only spirit which resides in this everything which is consciousness. You are the spirit of consciousness, the highest being in existence. It is the ONLY being in existence. AND YOU ARE IT.

Simply knowing this in each moment from now on, is enlightenment. Being in realization of the self is enlightenment. Stay knowing of your self.
