The best advice I ever received... Do what you can. Posted: 20 Apr 2020 03:46 AM PDT I have only been practicing yoga a few months and this is what I love about it: it's not a competition. I am far from the stretchiest guy around. My left ankle is set at a ninety degree angle after numerous operations, my right ankle has barely forty five degrees of movement in it. There are so many poses I will never be able to make properly but none of that matters. I get on my mat daily, I do what I can, and I learn to accept my body and mindspace. I am seeing more flexibility, my seated folds are so much deeper, I can clench my hands behind my back and raise them much higher than before. Just do what you can, let your own body be your guide, accept discomfort but not pain, and be more yoga. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:45 AM PDT I have been using the Yoga with Adriene videos for a few years, but her recent videos have too much unnecessary blabbering. Do you have any other free video/YouTube recommendations for yoga practice? Preferably ones with less talking and more guided breathing. [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:19 PM PDT I just received my very first Liforme mat and I could not be happier with my purchase!! I bought a Manduka ProLite in 2015 and have practiced on it regularly since then. It never broke in the way they say it will, and I finally bought a YogiToes mat towel to go over the top of it. (I do love my yogitoes!) The problem is my palms get sweaty all the time- even as I type this I can feel it (it's gross, I know). If I didn't use the yogitoes towel, I was always slipping in down dog. I did my first practice this afternoon on my new Liforme and straight out of the bag, no slipping AT ALL!! Also I got it on sale, although it was still pretty expensive. I think I will be able to take my practice to the next level now. Just wanted to share because I know mats are a topic that comes up frequently. [link] [comments]
Used Lion's Breath to help me complete a run :) Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:13 PM PDT I've been coupling my yoga journey with my running journey. Today, I really pushed myself to complete a run that scared me. I am doing a program called C25K, if you are familiar. The program alternates between walking and running for set periods of time. I was feeling tired and nervous when I got to the last running period. I didn't know if I could do it. So I let out the goofiest, craziest lion's breath I could! Tongue out, roar goin', eyes about to pop out kind of look! Must have looked insane, but I am proud to report that I finished the run, and am feeling great :) Great, powerful, and full of self-love :) Yoga is great. [link] [comments]
What are you paying for zoom classes? Posted: 20 Apr 2020 04:39 PM PDT A bunch of my favorite teachers have set-up their own schedules for Zoom classes and are asking for donations. What's the going rate for a 60-minute Zoom yoga class? I did one today and paid $15 -- reasonable? [link] [comments]
| Has anyone here used DownDog app? Posted: 20 Apr 2020 09:56 AM PDT I'm new to trying to practice yoga everyday and I've been using down dog a lot. Since I'm not very experienced I use the beginner routines and either the "gentle" or "restorative" one. I was wondering if these are considered yoga, since it mostly feels like peaceful stretching. I like it, but when I would go to classes it seems like there is much more focus on certain poses, where as here there are things like happy baby, but also ones that just feel like a good stretch. There is a Sun salutation option which to me feels more like the yoga I'm used to. How do you know if something is classified as yoga or not? Thanks and sorry if this is a dumb question! | Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:52 PM PDT I used to go to the gym almost everyday and lift there, getting stronger every time I went felt so good. Now that we're in quarantine i figure I've always wanted to try yoga so this is a great time to start. I want to keep my strength up for when the time comes to go back to the gym (I know it won't be the same, but i see this as a way to mitigate my losses) I'm looking for good, strength and endurance oriented walk along yoga videos preferably on youtube. if it exists, a FREE app with regiment style workouts would be perfect. | Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:22 PM PDT Hey guys, does anyone feel like no matter their frequency of practice, they can't clear their mind? I feel like its becoming a battle for me to be present in the moment and not wander, what helps you guys? I was shown this video and it really has me wanting to learn more: [link] [comments] |
Yoga apparel : Alo yoga ethical? Posted: 20 Apr 2020 10:21 AM PDT I'm planning on making better purchases when it comes to my yoga clothes, but I also just love how alo yoga fits. Does anyone have inside info on how ethical their company is? They say they are WRAP-certified but not sure how credible that is? Also I notice that a lot of green blogs and eco-conscious journals don't really highlight ALO yoga as a recommendation. Also, some of their clothes are made in Vietnam... so I don't know whether I can be certain that they are guaranteeing a minimum wage since there probably aren't a lot of regulations that protect workers there. Does anyone know if they are just greenwashing? And anyone have recommendations on more ethical/sustainable yoga clothes? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:05 PM PDT I am a trauma-sensitive yoga teacher and am trying to deepen my knowledge of other people's experiences with yoga! I appreciate any and all insight you feel comfortable providing (: What are your experiences (positive or negative) with starting yoga for the first time or returning to your practice after a traumatic experience? Did you go to a studio or start on your own? If you went to a studio, there anything you wish your teacher knew that could've supported you better? If you started on your own, is there anything you wish you had known? [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Apr 2020 12:24 PM PDT Hello I would really like to learn a handstand but I don't know where to start, any tips? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Apr 2020 08:14 AM PDT I have been practising yoga for around 3 years now, more consistently in the last year (3x week) and now daily during lockdown. I have pretty good flexibility in my hips, especially in lizard, pigeon, garland etc, however I cannot for the life of me improve hamstring flexibility. I still have bent knees in forward folds and really can't get further than 45 degrees in a seated forward fold. Even in downward dog, with straight legs my heels are about 3 inches from the floor. I happily modify these poses, I would rather be properly aligned etc and this isn't coming from a place of ego and wanting to look a certain way, rather just frustration that I don't seem to be making progress. The pain is most intense when I try a seated forward fold, even with block underneath I have shooting pains down the outside of both legs and cannot flex my feet for longer than 20 seconds. I regularly do weight training (nothing too intense) to strengthen my legs but stretch properly after each workout as I know this does cause me more tightness. I have been reading related posts on here and have also tried nerve glide exercises and looking into sciatica/piriformis related pain. I am reluctant to diagnose myself, but after telling myself for years I simply have tight hamstrings I'm wondering if theres something else at play. Has anyone been in a similar situation and made some progress/solved the issue and could offer some advice? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Apr 2020 11:28 AM PDT I wear glasses. And i use the dowm dog app. I need my glasses on to be able to see the screen and see if im doing things right. However if im in poses where my head isnt up (downwards facing dog for example) my glasses fall off and wont stay on, which means i have to break focus to put them back on are therw any solutiona to this? Its fustrating [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:29 AM PDT Some quick context: I am a 24 yo f and I'm an avid athlete and have been my entire life, but I've only recently begun to do yoga more consistently. I've been loving my Cole Chance flows and Alo Yoga workouts and being able to see my body become more flexible. However, like many of us, I have pretty tight hips. Before I did yoga, I was a semi-professional Irish step dancer, and during that time of my life I reallllly did a number on my hips from dancing on bad/hard surfaces. I find that now, five years later, I still have a bunch of tension and tight pain in my inner thigh/hip crease when I rotate my legs toward one another (example: when I'm in happy baby, I can only bring my knees so far in toward my chest and my legs and only go so far out). I've done tons of hip opening classes and I've consistently stretched that area for years but I haven't seen much of a flexibility improvement or much pain reduction. Any ideas on poses that you think might be good to target that inner hip crease or suggestions on how to move through it would be extremely helpful. [link] [comments]
Experience with Isha Yoga/Sadhguru? Posted: 20 Apr 2020 06:07 AM PDT Just curious if anyone here can talk to their experience with Isha Yoga/Sadhguru? [link] [comments]
Is there something wrong with my back? Posted: 20 Apr 2020 09:36 AM PDT So I'm not too sure what the problem is, but I have such a hard time doing forward folds. I'm sure it's just tight hamstrings. Whenever I do a forward fold I can't even get to 45°, but whenever I'm in a forward fold and I let my neck hang down I get this uncomfortable tingly sometimes painful feeling(s) along my entire back. I have subscribed to the idea that any type of pain that I feel isn't normal, and there's something causing it. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? [link] [comments]
