Posted: 13 Apr 2020 11:32 AM PDT I've had issues with my hips - one side was raised higher, and it constantly tilted forward. Once I learned what the psoas muscles were, I realized I did feel pain there, especially on my right side. I also have a bad bunion on my right food, which I hadn't previously thought was linked until I visited my mom's massage therapist last fall. These issues have gone all the way back to even elementary school. I actually just assumed my tendons were short or something. I've also seen that in certain moves I'm incredibly flexible, and in other moves I'm like a stick. I can easily pull my legs up when they are bent at the knee, but once they are straight, my waist doesn't bend at all. For example, I'm great at doing butterfly, especially with my legs pulled close to my body. But the further away the harder it is. After reading some comments on this sub, I realized some people do years of yoga and don't see much change in their flexibility. I set my expectations based on that and figured I'd probably always be inflexible. Well, after a month of yoga every day, my hips aren't raised on one side, and it feels more natural to tuck my pelvis in. Plus once I learned to focus on a straight back, my legs are closer to straightening in down dog than I've ever seen in my life. I can actually feel my psoas muscles stretch and it is one of the best feelings ever! And I can tell my hamstrings are stretching rather than under my knee, and that also feels so good! I assumed yoga would always be painful for me, but it's been so much fun seeing real healthy improvements! This inspires me to want to be an instructor some day, so I can help others in the areas I've been needing help with for years. It's so much fun! [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Apr 2020 07:58 PM PDT I M(23) have developed a bad anterior pelvic tilt over a few years due to excessive sitting (in chair) and poor core strength and during quarantine have been doing yoga and other relevant stretches and exercises to reverse it. Im am not totally inflexible and have also been forcing myself to spend more time on the ground, sitting cross-legged and other "primitive" ways. And although I don't wake up with any back pain, my lower back takes a beating and I constantly feel a lot of tension and tightness despite all the "loosening" exercises. I am scared I will do something to my spine. I still have full mobility so its not like its dire but its just very uncomfortable. Anyone go through a similar experience? Any advice? It's been around a week since I started. Maybe i'm pushing myself too hard too quickly but there's almost nothing to do that doesn't involve a compute, table and chair. [link] [comments]

Yoga helps fix rounded shoulder posture? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 05:53 PM PDT I have been learning yoga since last 2-3 years. I'm learning from YouTube and do just the simple poses (not hardcore shoulder stand and wheel pose type). Recently I have noticed that my rounded shoulder posture has improved (not cured though). I feel like the forward head is less obvious . It could be just my imagination. Has anyone else cured their forward head / rounded shoulder posture through yoga??? Tldr : am I having a placebo effect or does yoga really helped my bad posture? [link] [comments]

Words to help loss of yoga studio closing Posted: 13 Apr 2020 08:55 PM PDT Hi yogis, I am looking for support and words that can help me with a sad transition that my local yoga studio closed and won't be reopening due to Covid. I realize it is just one of several local businesses impacted by this pandemic, and it is a loss for the entire community of teachers, mentors, neighbors and families. I completed my 200 teacher training there and did one last visit this weekend to pick up left props and reflect on good times. I am avoiding yoga at home and online in quarantine because it reminds me of the this loss and makes me sad about this transition. I am grateful for the memories and people I've met. Thanks for your metaphysic and compassion and holding space for me. Any wisdom words of advice would be so appreciated! [link] [comments]
yoga videos for inflexible person Posted: 13 Apr 2020 05:25 AM PDT Hi, What are some good videos to get into yoga. I try to like it, but always feel extremely discourages because I have trouble with getting into the positions. For example, I can't do downward facing dog due to tight hamstrings which are somehow always part of beginner videos. I find the positions in the videos by Yoga with Adriene incredibly difficult. Help! Other tips are welcome as well! [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Apr 2020 04:20 PM PDT Hi everyone, since this lockdown started, I've been trying to practice some poses that are more tricky for me to do as a little challenge for myself. I've always wanted to master bow pose but alas, I've yet to manage it. I can do one side at a time but when I try and catch both my ankles, no chance. I am one of those people that does have to twist/reach a bit to grab my ankle on both left and right sides. I can't grab my ankle by just folding my leg and putting my arms back. Any advice on how to progress into it and what other poses will help me towards doing full bow please? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 04:08 PM PDT Hey everyone. I have always admired people who do yoga, so decided to try some of Yoga with Adrienne's videos on YouTube, but recently I noticed that I have a clicking hip on one side, and a painful hip on the other which appeared from nowhere. The pain 'activated' when doing lying down, soles of feet together pose- and my clicking hip couldn't do a knee to chest when lying down- which sucked. Anyway, it lasted around a day, but I'm wondering if I have genetic hip issues and should steer clear from these types of poses. It's really disheartening! Thanks! [link] [comments]
For those who do yoga everyday - how do you switch it up? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 06:20 AM PDT I've been committed to my yoga practice for a couple years now. But, now that I'm in quarantine, I want to try to create a new workout routine that's basically all yoga with some strength training. I don't do yoga everyday, so for people who do, what's your routine/schedule like? I want to incorporate the following into my week: regular vinyasa flow, slow flow, HIIT or power yoga, yin into my week along with my strength training. Anyone else do this? How do I create a good schedule for myself while switching up my yoga workouts and also getting my strength training in? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Anyone else had this with chest opening poses? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 07:26 PM PDT I've read about chest-opening poses being cathartic and letting out emotion, so I knew something like this could happen, but has anyone had unpleasant memories brought up through doing them? I was just going through a few sequences and poses before bed and did quite a lot of chest-opening ones because they feel really good for me (I've been doing a lot of them lately on the whole), when a memory of a really humiliating and upsetting situation I was in a year or so ago bubbled up to the front of my mind, really vivid. I was knocked for six a bit, it set me off thinking about other upsetting things, and I had a brief cry on the mat. Don't really know how I'm feeling now, but I am also pretty tired. I do have issues with anxiety and intrusive thoughts which was why I was trying to settle myself in the first place (and mostly why I took up yoga). If these exercises and ensuing reactions are good for me I'm willing to continue but understandably I'm a bit shaken. If this is genuinely cathartic then I'm just happy to keep doing something that might help my unhelpful-and-upset brain for good! Any advice/experiences? [link] [comments]
How important are flat feet in downward dog? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 02:11 PM PDT When I go to yoga classes or watch yoga videos online, the instructor almost always has their foot flat on the mat when in downward dog. I can't for the life of me get mine to be flat - my heels are always several inches off the ground. Is this a bad sign and should I be actively working and stretching to get my feet as flat as possible on the mat, or is it OK that my heels are raised? [link] [comments]

| Posted: 13 Apr 2020 12:57 PM PDT Hey guys, so myself and my gf we aren't native English speakers. For her it is a bit more challenging understanding English and she wants to start doing yoga but I cannot recommend her anything from here. So I was just wondering if anyone knows some Instagram profiles or YouTube channels for yoga in Spanish? Since reddit is an international community I am hoping someone can help with it.
