The difference between different types of yoga? Spiritual vs non spiritual

    Posted: 03 May 2020 11:47 AM PDT

Hi, I've been practicing yoga on and off for about a year but I'm interested in getting more serious about the practice. I have a mat and quality yoga pants and the downward dog app. I'm not sure how to improve and I don't have enough "yogic literacy" to understand the different types of yoga and how one becomes better at it (other than practicing every day) I am particularly interested in getting into the more spiritual side of yoga etc but I'm not sure how to do that. If you could give me the names of different resources etc that you suggest that would be really helpful.

    Complex yoga improvement at home!

    Posted: 03 May 2020 01:21 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm picking yoga back up at home. Usually do it at work once a week with a proper teacher but obviously been unable to do so.

I want to progress to more things like crow pose, headstands etc. How did you home self-taught people do this?? I don't know where to start with the more complex stuff.

trying yoga to help with lower back tighness but i dont seem to feel much?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 02:14 PM PDT

during the quarantine my bad habits have become even worse, im an artist and i draw on an ipad, so i do it in bed, sometimes im even hunched over a pillow with my legs tucked under my belly. i dont know how exactly that can hurt my back but im sure it can do so pretty effectively because the lower back discomfort ive felt occasionaly got worse recently.

i notice a pain when im just laying on my back trying to sleep, other times i feel nothing but just laying down is uncomfortable.

i searched up 'lower back pain yoga' on yt and tried a few differents ones but i dont feel any satisfaction. i think im either really bad at doing the poses or these videos are targeting different muscles than i need. one of them even had me laying on my back for a few minutes and it was so uncomfortable and i didnt see how it could help so i closed it.

so yea, if anyone knows what might be my problem, and can recommend any routines i can follow i would love that

    Newbies

Me and my mrs have just started doing yoga. We both like it but the exercises on the daily yoga app seem to be very short. I've just decided to do two one after another. Is this normal at the start because I was hoping it'd be a bit more challenging.

Looking for a virtual yoga partner to help stay motivated!

    Posted: 03 May 2020 06:37 PM PDT

Hello fellow yogis/yoginis. I am trying to find someone who would practice with me and share information about their practice, either through a journal or via chat(although I would prefer a journal) and help motivate each other and help each other keep accountable. For all practical purposes, I am a beginner, and I would like to practice with someone who could more or less be someone like a mentor.

My goals are to achieve flexibility, and get more deeper in the spiritual realm. I currently practice Ashtanga primary(only the standing sequences and first row of the seated sequences).

I am a vegan, and I do not drink coffee, tea or alcohol and neither do I consume tobacco or any other recreational drugs. I am not suggesting that you should give up anything you enjoy, but I believe I'd best vibe with someone who also shares similar interests.

Thank you for considering and I look forward to practicing with you.

Not enough strength to kick up into handstand

    Posted: 03 May 2020 01:12 PM PDT

I've started practicing my handstand. However, I've hit one big barrier: I don't have enough strength to kick up against the wall. I can kick up if I start with one foot on an elevated surface (approx. one meter), and am steadily progressing with headstands, so it is not my fear of being upside down. I just literally don't know how to generate enough force to get my legs all the way up.

Has anybody had the same problem, or have any tips on how to tackle this?

Manduka Pro users..."foot spots" a sign of poor cleaning or the mat breaking in?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 06:33 AM PDT

Got an extra long purple Manduka Pro mat for my birthday at the beginning of March (literally took it to one class before everything got shut down). I've been practicing on it just about every day at home since I got it, and salted it twice right when I got it.

I really love the mat, but at certain angles it's obvious that the "hot spots" are darker. I've cleaned it several times with vinegar + water, gentle dish soap, etc and the while the spots get better, they're still there.

Am I not cleaning it well with the texture, or are the marks just a sign of breaking it in?

What motivated you to start Yoga? What were your expectations?

    Posted: 03 May 2020 04:54 AM PDT

Hi everyone! I've read the FAQ on the various benefits people experience, but I'm more interested in what gets people interested in Yoga in the first place.

I understand that there's a lot of overlap, so hopefully my question is different enough that it doesn't get deleted. Thanks for any input!
