Posted: 05 May 2020 11:01 AM PDT I've been following along with videos on YouTube. I'm looking for some one to talk less. I find it hard to completely enjoy the experience because I can't tune out the instructor. I just want direct instruction and nothing more if that's possible. Anyone have a recommendation. Everyone is so great, thanks for such a lovely community. [link] [comments]

Upward facing dog and glute engagement (back pain discussion) Posted: 05 May 2020 04:53 PM PDT I'm 99% sure at this point that the combination of me not using a standing desk at my office (fixed two days ago) and doing a LOT of Vinyasa, particularly upward facing dog is screwing up my lower back. I am pulling forward, engaging my legs but I was always told to relax the coming from kettlebells (which I get are very different) this feels very wrong to me. I feel my back is vastly better protected with contracted glutes (which produces a favorable posterior tilt). So...glutes contracted or not? And why? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 May 2020 04:12 PM PDT This is the 2nd time I get the pain in my left wrist after excercising more than usually... During the quaranteen, I 've been practicing more often and a few days ago the pain returned... I cant do chaturangas or any arm balances right now. Does anyone know how to avoid "activating" carpal tunnel or how to "cure" it? I know about certain stretches and basically rest, but I love the way my practice evolved and dont want to pause. Thank you! [link] [comments]
What is the future of teaching/practising yoga after Covid-19? Posted: 05 May 2020 01:31 PM PDT Inspired by u/BLESS_YER_HEART 's sobering post about the realities of teaching yoga which really made me think. What can we do, as practitioners and/or teachers to ensure there is a future for this (sometimes thankless and at many times drastically under-paid) profession? Even without this virus, as you may have read on the post I referenced above, so many teachers burn out in their first year because teaching at studios/gyms and making a liveable salary is nigh on impossible – believe me, I've tried. It's just not sustainable mentally, physically or financially to teach 15+ classes a week at £/$25 / hr. Studios barely stay afloat without their glorified pyramid scheme Teacher Trainings, which is not helping things on the supply side (too many teachers, not enough work to go around). And especially with this virus, a lot of studios will shut, and a lot of teachers will lose sadly their classes and their livelihoods. Where will people turn to practise their yoga? If the majority go online, what does that mean for the future of in-person classes? Silver lining: With the closing of so many studios, maybe this will ease supply-side pressure and allow teachers to demand higher pay? I'm not here with answers, but I'd love to start a discussion about what we can do as people who appreciate this valuable practice, to safeguard its place as a resource in people's lives after this crisis is over. We have over a quarter of a million readers on this sub. I'm hoping we can come up with some ideas or at least start a dialogue 🙂 [link] [comments]
Choose TPE or TPU material for yoga mats? Posted: 05 May 2020 07:06 PM PDT TPE and TPU have the same thickness and similar elasticity. How should I buy as a beginner? [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 May 2020 07:00 AM PDT I'm looking to improve and level up some of my balancing poses (eg crow, warrior 3, dancers, headstand), increase strength and flexibility of them. Do you think it would be best to: - practice just holding the pose (say at the end of a flow) or - to just continue working generally and they'll get better on their own? [link] [comments]
Strained hamstring from triangle pose Posted: 05 May 2020 10:24 AM PDT I was doing triangle pose really focusing on keeping my hips facing forward, and I think I must normally neglect that angle of hamstring stretch cuz it felt like a very good stretch. I stupidly was excited to get at that tightness and only went down a little slowly and heard and felt a pop in my hip near my hamstring. Looked it up and I almost definitely pulled or tore or strained (idk the difference) part of my hamstring where it connects to my hip/sit bone. The thing is nothing hurts except stretching it, not squats, jumping, deadlift, leg curls (not yoga) but when I do a one legged pike like on my bed it just feels more painful/achey than a regular stretch. Has this happened to anyone? Its improved from the initial soreness, but been a month after and still kinda unstretchable. I stretch it a little bit anyway? Any advice? Also I'm not saying the triangle pose is bad, I definitely should have been paying more attention to how my leg felt and not overdone it. [link] [comments]
Tips on plantar fasciitis pain during yoga. Posted: 05 May 2020 10:03 AM PDT Hello All, Sometimes when practicing yoga my left foot is subject to intense foot pain. I'm guessing Plantar Fasciitis. Strangely enough, I don't feel it any other time. Anyone experience that as well. Might someone have tips? Pushing through hurts. Thanks [link] [comments]
| Yoga teachers - What equipment do you use to stream your class? Posted: 05 May 2020 01:46 PM PDT I have seen people use Instagram, zoom and Facebook from a software perspective. I am curious to know what hardware do you all use? iPhone? Android phone? Laptop? iPad? External webcam and mic? I think the challenge is unique because based on your asana, you may want to zoom in or out. Maybe even use a dual cam set up. Asking for a friend who wants to offer online classes. Thank you. | Posted: 05 May 2020 01:32 PM PDT I have a genetic issue that caused all the ligaments throughout my body to be stretched, I would be incrediblyflexibleif I trained my body to be. I've had trouble with my wrists, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles at different times. Usually from overuse. I'm a professional musician which bothered my wrists. I did heavy weight lifting which bothered my shoulders. My hips pop when I walk/run at times. My knees hurt whenever I decide to start running again. My ankles were not happy about being an avid rock climber. So they're not great but I've also possibly over used them. Now I'm 35 (f) and a mostly stay at home mom to 9 month old twins and I want to get into doing yoga and some home workouts to help get me back where I used to be. The only thing I'm currently having issues with are my wrists. So specifically going back to doing downward dog and high plank and anything with pressure/weight into my hands and wrists is so painful I have to stop halfway through my exercises. Does anyone have advice on how I can work through this? As soon as I'm done with the workout it doesn't bother me like when my other joint issues were happening. This is specific to when I'm doing the motions. I really love the way yoga makes me feel but I can't do anything with pressure on my wrists. Help! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
