Inspire me! With pose suggestions Posted: 26 May 2020 12:58 PM PDT Just joined the community so please forgive me if this post breaks any rules! If it does, I guess I can't read :P I've been feeling that my yoga practice has been a little stale. I don't like watching videos, and my favorite part about going to classes is being in the SPACE. I make my own adjustments all the time: injuries, flexibility, etc and so trying to get though a 1h video class feels almost pointless. So, I had a in-the-shower thought of trying a little game to inspire me to do my daily practice again. I really, really hope this subreddit will like it! It's very simple too, and I hope very fun. It goes like this:
Will it be awkward? Will it be funny? Dull? Cringe? I don't know! Help me find out! [link] [comments] |
Strength building tips for slow flow yoga Posted: 26 May 2020 01:27 PM PDT Sorry if this has been covered before but basically I want to do more strength focussed yoga (i've done a few irl classes and yoga with adrienne challenges) but most of the ones on youtube seem to be quite fast flowing. Does anyone have any good ideas for slow flow strength building or do you have to go quickly to get stronger? I did the first day of a yoga with tim 30 day challenge and it was pretty quick going but is it worth sticking to? [link] [comments] |

Try practicing your yoga on your own Posted: 26 May 2020 08:17 PM PDT Normally I like to follow along with youtube videos like Adriene, Kassandra, or Cat Meffan (all great channels btw), but in the last few weeks I've been wanting to make the practice more of my own, so I thought of how I could do my own routines. I was a little bit nervous on what I would end up actually doing during the practice and procrastinated this idea. But tonight, I just decided to roll out my mat and see what happens. The practice only lasted about 10, maybe 15 minutes, but it felt entirely new and awesome. I was able to close my eyes and flow while not having to wonder if I was doing anything right or not. Overall, I really enjoyed it so I thought I'd share. Give it a shot! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 May 2020 08:13 AM PDT I'm referring to how tight I wake up every morning. Like, I'm so stiff I can barely walk most days. It takes at least an hour to loosen up and be able to actually practice a routine. Is it normal for the body to revert to such an unflexible state every single day? I'm getting extremely discouraged, to the point that I think the stretching is ruining my quality of life, rather than improving it. If the cost of flexibility is waking up stiff as a board every morning, then what's the point? And no I don't believe I am overstretching or over exercising at all. I feel I am very careful with my routines. For example, one day I will be able to place my palms on the floor while standing. The next day I can barely touch my finger tips to the floor when I wake up. This goes for every muscle in my body. Fingers, wrists, forearms, hamstrings, hip flexors, calves, neck, shoulders, etc. I literally feel 80 years old in the morning and it takes me so long to get warmed up before I can even start a routine. It takes up so much of my morning to just be able to feel normal again. Is 6 weeks too early for the body to adjust to this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 May 2020 08:05 PM PDT Hi! So I'm fairly new to yoga and started because I had more time since quarantine (my country is still on lockdown). I'm not a flexible person and I found that whenever I try to do seated poses like wide-legged seat or fold, or even just staff bent knees, I can't stick my bum backwards. I think it's also related to how I can't "hinge from the hips" as much as I'd like in forward fold. Do you guys have any advice? Things I could work on to be able to do that? Thanks! Posted: 26 May 2020 07:13 PM PDT I bought a yoga DVD to start this off for the first time in years. I took a yoga PE class in college and have been before and at the time I felt like it just always made me super aware of how limited my body is. I started the routine listed as the easiest and right off the bat couldn't even begin to do this pose. My legs can't do that while I also sit up and do what it wants with my arms. My body doesn't do that. So immediately I'm just sitting there feeling like an idiot whose body can't do any of the things this DVD wants. I googled modifications for this post and found nothing. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 May 2020 06:47 PM PDT I have been wondering: should I do my yoga in early mornings (before work/daily tasks) or evenings (before going to bed)? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 May 2020 12:25 PM PDT So I fell out of doing yoga regularly a decade or so ago due to personal issues, but I'm back in the right head space and started up again yesterday. My god the decade of not doing it as I went from thirty to nearly fourty has done a number on me. Can't wait for the flexibility to begin returning. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 May 2020 09:38 PM PDT Wow. Just wow. I'm just 5 days into the 30 days of yoga with Adriene program and I am so blown away by the results. Whenever I get stressed or mad (which has been often lately) I find myself focusing on breathing to calm down instead of being bitter or tense. It also helps me to have this to do every morning, now that I am no longer going to school. Not to mention I feel like my arms already have a bit of line where I'm getting more muscle, which is very exciting for me, as I am overweight. I'm beginning to love yoga, how it's both calming and challenging. Any advice for a yoga beginner? [link] [comments] |
What do you recommend I work on to fix my downward dog? Posted: 26 May 2020 02:55 PM PDT As you can see, I have an insanely difficult time getting my heels any closer to the floor. I have a strong almost numb-like (sort of sciatic almost) reaction as I try to correct and get my hamstrings stretched correctly. Could you recommend what I need to work on in order to fix my downward dog? I want to get to the root issue as I can tell I'm not getting the benefit I could from the stretch. Thank you! Just did my first yoga session Posted: 26 May 2020 04:14 AM PDT Hi everyone - 39M here, I just did my first yoga session (30mins) using the Down Dog app. I woke up at 4am, did my daily meditation, and by 4:30 I was doing yoga, beginners level of course. The why. I am doing yoga mainly because of stretching. I work a desk job, and I practice martial arts (not good at it, but it doesn't matter). I recently noticed how tight I am, so the idea of doing yoga obviously popped into my mind. I also believe the old saying "mens sana in corpore sano" so I think that being in good shape even from a "stretching" point of view will help me in life and spirituality in general. First impressions. It was more difficult than I thought, but it was rewarding. At times I had some difficulty in following the instructions (not knowing what to do I probably focused too much in the smallest of things), sometimes I truly couldn't hold my balance (that "dancer pose" almost killed me), and a few times my wrist really hurt. However, no [reasonable] pain no gain. What's next. I guess that yoga - like anything else - requires consistency, so the main goal for me is going to be to build a habit the same way that I built my martial arts and weightlifting habit. "Just do it." I assume that patience will also be a key element, after all I certainly won't become a yogi that is able to stand straight on one finger in a month (or two, or three...). Ultimately, it was a very nice experience, and a good one to do before sunrise. [link] [comments] |
Yoga makes me very tired and I don't know why Posted: 26 May 2020 06:51 AM PDT So I'm new to Yoga and I find it very exhausting, not physically but more like in an emotional energetic way, especially after doing it, not necessarily while doing it. I don't know whats happening, but I've done regular exercise all my life and none other practice has made me feel this way, does anyone experience this? Some people say that is because I focus on the sensations on my body but I also meditate often and had never felt like this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 May 2020 11:44 AM PDT I'm also looking into to doing more Hatha yoga and want to be able to do it in my own time anywhere so is the best approach to learn a sequence? Do certain moves have to be put together to get a result? [link] [comments] |
Best clothing investment for Yoga? Posted: 26 May 2020 04:03 AM PDT Hi everyone ! I've recently invested in a Manduka Pro Mat and it has been game changing. Having practiced for 8 years or so now, I'm thinking of (finally!) getting some decent clothes to practice in, more breathable etc. I've just been using my cheap running leggings up until now, and find them really restrictive/ sweaty... I've been looking at Manduka as they have a lot of sale products currently, (currently around $50, £40 mark in UK), but reviews are sparse online - so I was wondering whether anyone had any recommendations or suggestions? I've heard Lululemon thrown around, but can't really justify spending £70+ on leggings. I guess what I'm really wondering is: Does splashing out on high range 'yoga' clothing really make much of a difference? Thanks ! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 May 2020 03:20 PM PDT Not sure if this is allowed so please remove if not but I am trying to cut down on my collection of leggings and have some size small teeki yoga pants that I am selling cheap ($25-$17). They retail for $80 and are designed for bikram yoga. They are the only pants I can wear for a hot yoga class! PM me if you are interested! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 May 2020 11:24 AM PDT Would it have better results doing yoga daily or intermittently for a beginner? [link] [comments] |
