Need tips on pigeon pose. Is it okay for my right hip to not touch the ground if the left is extended back? Same goes when I switch sides. For this international yoga day I want to give the best pigeon pose. I looked and videos/ been in practice since 2019. I need input as to whats better.

Hips touch the ground or a small lift in the hip thats at 90 degrees. Or, super flat on the ground with even bottom touching the ground?

Does anyone know what this pose is called? Or what it’s a variation called if the toe stand balance?

Beginner's yoga is still too hard!

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 08:19 AM PDT

I really want to get into yoga. The problem is that it's just so hard!

I'm carrying a lot of extra weight, so many of the poses are just physically impossible. Then even the easy ones that I can do put so much pressure on my knees and wrists that it's agony after a few seconds. I'm really frightened of injuring myself.

Does anyone have any suggestions of workouts I could try? Maybe ones specifically for large bodies that are super, super easy, or that are entirely done standing up or sitting on a chair.

I really don't want to get discouraged, and I'd like to build up my fitness and flexibility, but it's so tough when the first relaxing warm up pose in a beginner's workout is still too hard for me!!

My Crow Flew for the first time today - just in time for International Yoga Day!

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 07:05 AM PDT

I started yoga a year ago today too - and today my crow flew for the first time! My other benefits are so much more important - mindfulness, flexibility, strength - but this feels super cool. Namaste 🙏

Summer Solstice Practice - Normally I host a yoga in the park event to mark the summer solstice, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, I've opted to share a ~40min outdoor practice for you to enjoy! I also created a spotify playlist to accompany the video, I'll put a link to it in the comments.

Accidentally figured out hot yoga might be a thing I like eventually.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 05:50 PM PDT

So in my recent depressive state I decided to try something new with yoga. Black out curtains, a candle, and my headphones with Down Dog. Nothing about "emotions" or "being present" because I can't handle that at the moment. I tried Yoga with Adrienne, but it's so hit or miss as to whether or not I'm going to start crying because of a well meaning affirmation. Not ready. Just let me breathe and burn for a little bit please.

Now my room is not particularly large. One window, a single fan, and a slew of various creative endeavors piled on the edges of my existence.

It heated my room up slightly. I heated up A LOT.

The darkness and the heat and the candle.

I figured something out. It's worked three times.

    Now to go chug water.

Why are yoga mats necessary ?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 01:54 PM PDT

I'm exploring getting into yoga for back pain and I've been trying to understand what the purpose of the mat is ?

Is it just an optional thing to have that's nice ? Or is it truly necessary ? I'm just confused what's wrong with just using the floor you're on ?

Should the shoulder blades be flat against the back in plank and down dog?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 10:05 AM PDT

I came into yoga with poor posture and rounded shoulders, and I think yoga may have reinforced that. I have a lot of muscle knots around my shoulders that I am working on and I am working more on my posture now. Any advice on that would be helpful too

What poses should/shouldn't I do with very tight shoulders? Should I be doing yoga right now? I find it very difficult to hold plank with my shoulders flat and it's impossible for me to move into down dog without moving my shoulders
