How to watch yoga videos comfortably

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 05:07 PM PDT

How do I follow a yoga video and not to uncomfortably keep turning to look back at the screen? I feel that this is making yoga much more difficult.

help deciphering my first manifestation experience (please read especially if you've been manifesting/meditating for a long time!)

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 05:28 PM PDT

warning: this is a pretty long read but i would really really appreciate it if you read and commented your opinion

hi, today i tried my hand at manifesting for the first time. having tried listening to subliminals without much success i went in somewhat skeptical but with a pretty open mind overall as these last few months of social distancing have allowed me to move away from the religion i grew up in and look into spirituality some more. after sniffing around this subreddit and looking into other sources, as well as receiving confirmation from one of my closest friends that manifesting had been helping her with her love life and seeing a shift in her behaviour i decided that i would try it out.

these last couple of days i'd been reciting affirmations to myself and not doing much else. today I scripted for the first time while listening to a weight loss subliminal. shortly after i was looking through my instagram stories and a girl i follow who i do not know at all (she used to go to school with one of my summer camp friends) put up a post from a manifestation/loa account about seeing signs like angel numbers in your day-to-day life. never have i seen someone i follow on a social media platform post about manifestation/loa and for it to be right after i'd sat down and scripted for the better part of an hour felt like a sign. a couple of hours later i sat down to do two guided meditations i found on youtube, while meditating i was guided to place my hand overs my face and i immediately saw a blue eye. not a human's eye with a blue iris but an eye that was entirely blue, i figure that this is simply a representation of me opening my third eye although i'd like to hear this community's thoughts on it.

once i was done meditating i felt the giddiest i have felt in a very long time, probably the giddiest i've been since i was a child. it feels like my energy has completely shifted and i am seeing this whole entire world from a new perspective. it's so hard to explain but i'm assuming you all must know what i mean. essentially, i feel as if i can take on the world now that i've been awakened, it's as if i've been blind my whole entire life and now i can see the world for what it really is. every little object seems different and even my cat and my own body seem different, and better. when i went to the bathroom, i stopped to look in the mirror and genuinely loved what I saw. while standing there, i took in every single one of my flaws and smiled at how beautiful i felt. not even physically, as i was still able to take in my physical flaws but in a different way that i again am struggling to put into words. has anyone had a similar experience? is this usually how one's spiritual awakening goes?

now comes the part that freaks me out but also excites me. after taking an hour to myself to read out on the balcony (one of the guided meditations had told me to stay away from electronics and go outside after finishing up) i came into my room and took of my glasses. my glasses broke in half as soon as i took them off, there was no sound and no force applied and they simply fell apart. now i would like to note that the side that snapped had been missing a nose pad for a while, which most likely weakened the structure? although that makes absolutely no sense to me as the place where they snapped did not have any attachments/hardware on it to hold it and was not the spot the nose pad had been placed. this could genuinely just be because of the nose pad or because the glasses weren't the best quality, i'm confident there are many "logical" explanations for this happening. personally i feel as if it was the universe's way of telling me i had finally found out the truth, that the metaphorical glasses had been a shield between me and the real world and now they have been taken off and i know what is actually going on. please let me know your thoughts on this and whether you have had a similar experience i would love to know of any thought you had while reading so please comment anything that came to mind. if you read this entire post thank you so very much and i am very grateful to now be a part of this community.

Online Yoga Teacher Certification... Is it Worth It?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 03:54 PM PDT

    Hey y'all!

Was wondering if anyone has advice/insight on online yoga teacher certifications... I'm living in LA, unsure of how long this quarantine is going to go on for, and found a few programs with several good reviews that range from $300-500, which is all I can spend for a teacher training at the moment.

I'd still be interested in doing an in-person certification when things are back up and running a bit more, but I've been practicing for 7+ years and want to take it a step further, and figured if I could do it from home, it would be worth it.

Is anyone able to offer insight into this? I'm about to do it but want to make 100% sure its a good use of my time and $

    Namaste!!! x

    Handstand bench

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 08:46 PM PDT

    Has anyone used one?

I'm interested in buying one. I don't have nearly enough upper body strength to do a handstand on my own. And I have back issues and need to be extra careful.

I was wondering if these help build up the strength to do handstands without aid?

Best Things To Know About Yoga For Newbies

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:15 PM PDT

Best things to know about yoga. Getting started on yoga is an exciting start out to a new physical and spiritual world. No other form of exercise will put you more in touch with your body and your mind. What is frequently known as yoga exercise here inside the West really has many forms in India. In its country of origin Hatha Yoga, the physical element of yoga is only one branch of this ancient discipline

Chronic upper back pain gone after a popping sound from thoracic region !

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 02:00 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here has experienced pain relief from some kind of chronic spine related pain after a month of beginner level yoga?

I had tweaked my upper back about 18 months ago while doing a pull up (I had already injured my shoulder and perhaps I was not ready for a pull up) and it has been troubling me ever since. I would feel the pain only on my left side near neck/scapula region. I also felt some strength imbalance in the upper body (right side stronger than the left).

After recommendation from my wife, I tried yoga for a month and one day while sleeping i was trying to turn from one side to the other, i heard a popping sound from my thoracic region and felt instant relief. Its been a week since then and my upper back is almost normal. Is such kind of thing normal in yoga?

I would really appreciate if anyone could share their experience with yoga.

    Thanks in advance...

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 11:46 AM PDT

I do akash mudra while meditating at night and I feel like someone is touching my neck, shoulders and back while meditating. But there is no one around. Why does it happen?

    Peaceful Warrior to Triangle

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 08:40 AM PDT

    Question

Is it normal for the knee to pop on the sides when you transition from a bent knee to a straightened knee? It starts hurting after it pops several times.

Peaceful Warrior to Triangle is a good example as seen here in Adriene's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHb71QonmXo&feature=youtu.be&t=374

I feel a popping sensation in both knees when I straighten -> bend or vice versa. You can physically see it happen too. It's not on the patella or behind, but on both sides of my knee.

I wonder if this is similar to when my knee locks in place. Sometimes when I get up from a bed or my chair I will twist too much and my knee will lock.

One time it was so bad I got MRI's done at the hospital, but they found nothing wrong. I consider myself fit for the most part. Athletic male age 27 lots of running/hiking/biking/lifting. And so I'm wondering what's wrong

    body shape imbalance

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 06:41 AM PDT

I have been doing a back posture sequence for around a month and have noticed that the left side of my body looks a little bit different to the right. My ribs seem to flare out a little more and where my obliques curve is a little different on both sides. I am pretty sure it hasn't always been like this so I was wondering if maybe it is because i am using my left side more than my right or perhaps it could be something else none yoga related.

    Beginner Advice

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:54 PM PDT

I recently have gotten into Yoga. I am a runner and over the past few years I have been hit with many injuries and I believe this is related to being not flexible. I have found Yoga to a fun way to work on my flexibility and strength. While I am terrible at it, I realize it is has been and will continue to be beneficial to me. I honestly can't believe it took me this long to find it. I am am constantly amazed at the what I see posted on this sub.

Question for you the YOGA community. Has anyone used the app "Down Dog?" I have been using it and have enjoyed it because otherwise I would have no plan at all. Curious what your thoughts are. Is it useful or is it garbage? Also if you have other apps, books, YouTube channels you have found helpful I would be very interested in your opinions. Thank you!!!

    Alternatives to YogaGlo

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 11:19 PM PDT

    Hey all!

Sara Clark, one of the former teachers on YogaGlo posted this troubling IGTV post. In light of what she's said regarding not only the diversity issues in the company but also the way that she was treated then and feels today, I want to cancel my subscription after... probably 5 or 6 years of using the platform.

I was wondering what other yoga video platforms people use (paid or unpaid). 99% of the time I do vinyasa classes, sometimes Hatha. Sad to say bye to YogaGlo, but Sara is one of my favourite teachers on there and I feel like I'd be doing her a disservice by continuing my support.

    Thank you all!

Hello all I'm trying to improve my pigeon pose but I noticed I get some knee pain and have deduced that it's because I need to fix my hip rotation. What are some good ways to increase external hip rotation mobility ?? Any particularly good stretches ? Thank you!

    Tight upper back and neck

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 09:40 PM PDT

When doing seated or standing forward fold, my hamstrings aren't a problem, but my upper back and neck ache. Trying to relax in other poses always releases the muscles, but in this poses the back and neck begin to hurt even more. Any tips/poses that I can do to make this better? I've been doing yoga for half a year now, and those are still my two big problem areas.

Has anyone activated their Anja chakra?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 11:15 PM PDT

I accidentally activated mine a while back and the negatives outweighed the positives. Have been curious if it's possible to 'deactivate' a chakra...my forehead still tingles from time to time, but I've been actively trying to avoid the 'ideal' mind-body-lifestyle things I need to do to fully 'power' it, as the benefits it offers just don't compare to the annoyances.

I totally understand why people go to ashrams to embrace and explore these things. Spiritual evolution just isn't compatible with the modern world.
