[COMP] This pose is almost more relaxing for me than child’s pose. Do you have a favorite pose for relaxation or a ‘break’ during practice?

Suddenly having a hard time after a month

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 05:24 PM PDT

I don't know why but the past two weeks have been difficult to get the mat down and do a session. Ive gotten back on yoga in May and had a steady schedule, but now I've only done three practices in two weeks. Is it common for something like that to happen? How do I make myself get back into it without it feeling like a chore?

Finally able to go back to the studio and super duper self conscious

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 05:16 PM PDT

So I gained a lot of weight since I was last in the studio, like 40 lbs a lot, and I booked my first hot yoga class since before quarantine today and I'm super scared. On top of that I'm going to a whole new studio because my studio was taken out during the Minneapolis riots. I know yoga isn't about judgement but I'm honestly just scared I'm going to make a fool of myself, especially because I only have one pair of yoga pants that fit now 😣 advice? I'm honestly 50/50 on bailing already. If it were my old studio I wouldn't care as much but a new studio with new teachers and a new community on top of dealing with these body image issues is a lot.

Does anybody else experience nervous energy before certain poses?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 05:53 PM PDT

I've noticed that as I begin to come into both wheel and camel pose I feel a burst of anxious energy, to the point where I have to take a deep breath and compose myself. These poses always come at the end of my practice when I am well opened up, so it's not that the pose is especially difficult. Could it be the vulnerable nature of the pose making me feel anxious? Does anybody have any insight?

    New guy/weightlifter/suspicious of yoga

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 09:03 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I am keen to start yoga.

I want to start yoga for various reasons but the biggest one is to heal my body. I'm not sick or anything (any more) but I was a heavy lifter before I got sick, went from training six times a week to nothing for months. My body has fallen apart, back pain, weight gain etc.

So would yoga be a good way to reconnect and be happy in my body again. Be strong and lean, have the mind/muscle connection and, most of all, get rid of these unexplainable lower back pains.

Classes wouldn't work because we are still in lockdown here but I've recently discovered an app called 'Skillyoga' with a beginner routine. Is anyone familiar with this? It's about 30 quid a month but I'm willing to pay that of its effective.

Thanks and sorry for so much text :)

    Yoga without forward bends?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 02:53 PM PDT

I visited a chiropractor for the first time today, and after my adjustment he told me not to do forward bends and hamstring stretches for the next week. I do yoga multiple times a week and I love it, but I don't know what kind of sequence I can do that doesn't involve bending forward or stretching my hamstrings. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

How do I know if a teacher has actually done training to teach yoga?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 02:29 PM PDT

I tried to find out about Adriene Mischler, I am certain she's mentioned it in a video or something, but she doesn't say any of her qualifications as a yoga teacher on her website. I tried for Boho Beautiful too, and theres very limited information about the qualifications of her.

I just want to follow well-versed, intelligent teachers that aren't telling me to stretch the wrong thing, move in the wrong way, and have just learnt from other youtube videos or you know doesn't have any real qualifications.

A side note to this your recommendations for other yoga youtubers/bloggers who have really inspired you and you trust their knowledge will be appreciated. (Yes I know of the pinned post to this sub with all the suggested challenges)

    Yoga made my biking better?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 02:22 PM PDT

I've done yoga on and off since college but lately I've been way more consistent because of quarantine (2-3 times a week). I've noticed a lot of the common benefits like lower anxiety and increased mindfulness, but this weekend I noticed something I was not expecting.

I ride my bike once in a while, nothing serious. I learned how to ride a bike at 22 (I know haha) so my balance and stability on it has never been stellar. Last time I rode my bike was February and this weekend I decided it was time to get back out there. I was killing it on the turns and I felt way more secure on the bike, like I never had been.

I truly think yoga helped me with my balance because it's the only difference since I last rode in Feb. I've also been jogging and doing some strengthening but yoga has been the most consistent practice.

Anyone with a similar experience? What are some unexpected benefits you've experienced from yoga practice?

Poses for lower sore hip flexors and lower back?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 02:11 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm working from home. I'm sitting a lot more than I'd like to admit. For some reason, my hip flexors are so. damn. sore. I'm mainly looking for routines or poses I can do to alleviate the pain. Same thing for my lower back!

    TIA 🥰

    Pranayama for Depression?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 06:10 AM PDT

Hey everyone I have had depression for the past 5 years. I have been seeing a psychiatrist along with trying over 10+ medications. I am now at the point of depression where I am getting strong suicidal thoughts.

I am wondering if anyone here has really benefited from Pranayama breathing.

    Thanks

Question on shoulder range of motion

    Posted: 09 Jun 2020 05:29 AM PDT

I have some discomfort in my left shoulder in certain poses. In extended child's pose, it's uncomfortable to have my arm outstretched in front, but if I bend my elbow a bit, it's fine. And in extended side angle, I struggle to get my (top) left arm back in space to be in the same plane as my body. Any suggestions on how to address this?

I'm a beginner. Please tell me if I got the right yoga mat. There's a ridges on top that supposed to make it non-slip but it's shiny. I bought this for $20
